Why do the yanks insist on calling it Gas, when it's clearly a liquid?
Why do Brits pronounce it alu-min-ee-um, when it is clearly pronounced alum-mi-num? :/ It's a cultural difference, it isn't a big deal.

Where I live we're just above the US's national average, which is about $4.11 so I guess we don't have it as bad as some other places... but I don't drive anyway so hah! :P

Eh? It's spelt: aluminium. and I'm pretty sure American's pronounce it "Alu-mi-num", not "Alum-mi-num" as you stated. The only real differenc is where we put the stress, we make more of a point of the 'i' in 'nium', whereas you barely pronounce it at all.

But still. Calling a liquid "gas" is pretty dam stupid.

yeah, gas prices are shooting up. but i probably wont be driving.

the thing is.... the prices for it are getting rediculous. i dont have a bike, i would usually just walk everywhere.

i would be interested in the Electric powered cars as well. i think they will be a lot better than the normal petrol cars.

We spell it aluminium. See the extra i? :P

Anyway, my car gets alright mileage. Still pretty expensive over here! £1.20 a litre, about the going rate so I try to catch lifts with friends, instead :)

£1.20 / liter = £4.50 / us gallon. Or $9 a gallon. So, stop complaining!

"'Gasoline' is commonly used in North America, where it is often shortened in colloquial usage to "gas." It is not a genuinely gaseous fuel used in internal combustion engines such as liquefied petroleum gas, stored pressurised as a liquid but allowed to return to a gaseous state before combustion." - Wikipedia

Its just short for gasoline thats all. There's nothing wrong with that. o_O

Cool, I knew the last bit, the gas is flamable, but the liquid isn't. Hadn't thought of the link to Gasoline (not a word we use here often).

So if Aluminium is pronounced Alu-mi-num

How are Francium, Americium, Sodium, Einsteinium, Californium, Scandium, Ruthenium etc pronounced?
