Time for explanation, eh?
I was using the train, which gives us a horrible service here, so I was wondering how much would we have to wait to get a decent service. That gave me the idea of something that I felt curious on what other people may think...

How do you imagine the world in 20 years?

In my opinion, physycally the world wont change that much, probably we'll have a bit higher temperature but the rest in terms of climate change will remain the same, even if the world is more polluted.

In terms of technology, I'm sure there'll be a lot of progress, specially in the car and entertainment industries, although it'll probably take longer than 20 years for this development to reach every corner of the world.

Well, I'm probably leaving a lot of aspects out, but that's all I can think of right now. I'm more interested in other people's visions, after all ;)

Interesting topic zel.
I really don't think there will be much to look forward to, because with solar power becoming more common, its hard to see if the future will be really clean or really dirty.
lets see...
i think there will be no more(or few) glaciers, half of the world will be solar powered, the lakes, rivers, and oceans will be less polluted, and that there will be less people outside due to Global warming.

Just think how this question would of been answered five years ago. FLYING CARS!!1!11!
XD

Anyway, I see the world as not that much different. Hopefully people will come to their senses and realize that global warming is unstoppable. It may be a little warmer, but it'll be so gradual that we wont notice it. And maybe the US will have a little bit better control of international affairs, bringing some more stability. And if we haven't found a way to get all that mountain oil yet, gas will be about nine dollars a gallon. ;-; Um, that's really all I can think of at the moment. Other than the fact that technology and medicine will have improved ten fold. And maybe, just maybe, they'll find a cure for cancer.

In twenty years we will still be waiting for Duke Nukem Forever.
Complete win XDD The most likely prediction.

I expect an improvement in the technology, and from this, two possible results:

A- Development of non-contaminant technologies (good)
B- Drilling of every single place in the world with a bit of oil (May God prevent this, please D:)

Politically, I see a great internationalization of everything, with more and more countries joining wider and wider political organizations. Maybe this way we will solve conflicts in an easier way.

It's hard for me to imagine the world in 20 years, considering it's going to end in 2012!
(My god, I can't stand that theory!)

No, I'm kidding.
In 20 years the temperature and sea level will both be a little higher, technology and medicine will have advanced, and I will be Supreme Ruler of the World. Other than that, I'm hoping that oil will have a substitute and nuclear fission will be a thing of the past. Perhaps nuclear fusion will be completely successful. Who's to say?

LOL! You're into that theory as well?? Dang, thinking about this is makin me... *shivers*

Well... if the world did not end in 2012, then uhhh flying cars!
Hehehe, naah. The world would still be the same as it is today, just more hi-tech... Oil is like out and people will be using h20 as fuels. Pets are like gone and pokemon will take over animals... And brownies will be like everyones favourite food... Coke will dominate the cola industry... Nintendo WII +XXXXX will be like the latest game console... And i will reign supreme... Gosh, everyone wants to rule the world, dont they?

In 20 years... well... you could say anything because you just don't know. What I'm about to say is complete nonsense, because out of all the things that might happen, who's to say it'll be exactly like that?

I think that the working population in a large majority of developed countries will descend further into a state of zombification. Things that were once not commercialised will be commercialised further, dare I say, the air we breathe (perhaps in the form of 'air cleaning devices'). There won't be much progression in terms of medicine, in order to control the population rise. But there will continue to be charities and funding going towards it, where that funding goes nobody knows.

I think people will be more divided. There will be people who are deeply rooted in society, who don't fight back, who just work and do as they are told. The government will have greater control over what you do, where you go, able to track your very movements. Maybe even microchiped for identity and 'security' puropses, it might even become against the law not to have one. Yeah, more nice words to make undesireable things more desireable. So people are more willing to accept rather than rebel. And the working population will have their toys and booze and soap operas to keep themselves amused.

I don't think development of other countries is a direction they will all take. In fact I think many will fall back. I think war is inevetable, but I also think it will take a more subtle form than it does now. I think smaller poorer countries may become swallowed by larger more powerful neighbouring countries as fights for resources become more heated, as non-renewable resources begin to run dry and deserts expand, taking the renewable resources such as fertile soil. I think that fertile soil will become very rare particularly on the African and South American continent, as people manage the land poorly in a desperate attempt to feed their families. The rainforests, I'm afraid, are doomed, particularly in South America. I think in 20 years time, at the current rate of destruction, there will still be some left, but it will have shrunk considerably. Isolated pockets of rainforest will be scattered on the outskirts of the Amazon basin. The main rainforest body will be a shadow of its former self as people desperately try to mine the underlying soil for all its worth, many such miners poor and desperate. Campaigns to save it have been ineffective.

Blah. None of that stuff will happen... probably. I'm no psychic.

I think...

There will be 30% less trees, 5% more heat, 15% more disease, 25% more war, and a human population of over 8 billion.
Technology won't be overly dissimilar to today's.

Where there's peace we'll be driving electric cars and complaining about the state of the world while doing nothing about it, where there's war we'll be killing each other with XM29s, AN94 Abakans and AK-101s.

Well I think gas prices are gonna be about 10 dollars a gallon and i definatley will be walking every where i go if its not to hot outside because of global warming. Computers are gonna be so advanced we probably wont need to go outside anymore (i mean we have touchscreen computers and i only saw that stuff in movies lol). Maybe there will be cars that take less gas. Hopefully it wont be too bad in 20 years but it wont be that great.

Computers will definitely be a lot more powerful. Which means graphics in computer games will be hard to distinguish from the real world! 8D

In the direction the world is heading now, China and India will probably have a lot more influence over world politics, and the world will be a lot more globalized and interconnected.

We may or may not have solved our dependency on oil, hopefully the former. We're going to have to give up our dependency at some point as oil is a limited resource.

Why in 20 years there would be so much advancement.

All the Nintendo Systems and games would be MM0RPGs. SE and ME would crap out on themselves. WWIII will end Germany in a bomb. Africa would be out of starvation, because they would be replaced and advanced by Mexicans. Obama would dictate the world and keep peace. Pokemon Gen XII would be very popular because of no reason. I can imagine TVNintendo, a new channel that crushed DC. And Mexico would pwn US in Medical advancements :D.

The PS498 will be released, Microsoft will have copied the whole universe and Nintendo will still be doing releasing remakes of old games.

Seriously though, technology advances, we'll probably be using alternative fuels, Medical improvements, hotter weather (except in Britain where it will get much colder).

I could imagine that. They always are.

The world will be ending due to lack of oil and all the pollution we have caused.

I think the world will start to die if humans will keep destroying nature's art. Now, humans are making more and more dangerous items, who knows what'll be next in 2o years ahead of time. -__-

Though I should agree that technology will be better, but the risks and danger level will increase as well.

20 years from now...
~ We'll have gotten off of Global Warming and gotten on the topic of Global Freezing.
~ Google and Wiki have merged and has taken over the internet as we know it.
~ Coke will have taken Pepsi up on their offer to buy them out.
~ We'll have cars that run on something like.... gas (no flying cars, no cars running off of water).
~ 3 or 4 game generations will have passed.
~ Pokemon will still be around.
~ I'll be 40 years old (or close to it).
~ Erica, Robo, David, Jorfe, and myself will be on MSN that night talking about some crap that happened that day, and we might even throw in a little "Hey, you remember when ... happened?". Erica taking care of her 2 kids (likely telling her 3 year old to hush and make it's own dinner). Robo complaining about MS, Nintendo, or Sony, or talking about some gaming thing. David talking about some anime and planning on what he's going to watch next. Jorfe saying he's bored and wants to watch something, or ends up linking to YouTube vids. And myself... I'll be 40, still single, and wondering how we put up with each other for 25 years (I've known Erica for over 5 years, and 20 years from now...).

And that is how the future will look like. XD
