Hello,

If I've got a second-generation game playing on my Gameboy Advance - lets say Gold - which one of the games on the Gamecube is it that I can move Pokémon from Gold onto? I think it's XD but I don't remember. I don't think it was Colosseum though, I seem to recall that being incompatible with G/S/C games played on the Advance...

Thanks,

Fae

Sorry, Gold is not compatible with any of the Gamecube games. IIRC, it's only compatible with Pokemon Stadium 2 for the N64.

It doesn't matter if you're playing it on the Advance or not - it's still a 2nd generation game and the stats system changed dramatically for 3rd gen (EV system). Same reason you can't transfer Pokemon from Gold onto R/S/E/FR/LG.

Personally, I'm not holding out much hope for that GSC remake, but...

You should be able to get all of the GSC Pokemon onto the DS games, but you'll need a whole bunch of cartridges to do it. Namely, most if not all from 3rd (GBA) generation, as well as both Diamond and Pearl. Using the PokeRadar and hunting the routes on that northern island (with the Battle Tower), as well as talking with Dawn/Lucas' little sister in Sandgem (she tells you of daily outbreaks of specific species on specific routes) and checking out Backlot's Trophy Garden post-game will help you get many of them right in D/P. For the rest, make use of Pal Park with the older games, especially for the legendaries.

Hope this helps! This is rather broad information since the Johto Pokemon are re-obtainable in a variety of ways, and Nintendo sure doesn't make it easy...

Ooooh, that's much more reassuring. I don't mind a lot of cartridges and a lot of work - it'll just make me more smug when (..okay, if) I succeed, because I'll bet it hasn't been done (legitimately) much before.

Though that will mean I'll have to get Mew legitimately, rather than using the Generation 1 glitch... meh, never mind, I'll find a way. :P

I shouldn't need all those cartridges you've mentioned - my boyfriend has a fair few games of his own and I deliberately started buying carts that he didn't have.. so it'll be a team effort.

Thanks for your help! I'll certainly give what you've said a try.

I would hold out some hope for a GSC remake, if you'll read this page:

In summation: Pokemon DPP have the Johto location data, meaning Pokemon can come from Johto, *hint*.
"pps new screenie" - No, really shut up yuoaman.

Haaave you read my LP?
Pokémon Quartz - The only one of mine really worth reading.

What about my [Un]Abridged series?

I'm in the same situation, and correct me if I'm wrong.

But I believe the only way to get Gold/Silver pokemon are:

1- Complete the dex on Emerald/Ruby/Sapphire, (which is a hell of alot of work, and what I started doing).

2- Play Colosseum and XD, and import the snagged pokemon to GBA titles, then on to DS titles.. I've just got a Bayleaf that way.

Some of the GSC Pokemon (Wooper family, Hoothoot family) can be found ingame pre-Elite Four.
Some can be found post-E4 ingame (Mareep family, Houndour family)
But for the GSC starters/Legendaries/perhaps a few others, you will need to trade from the 3rd gen games/Gamecube games.

I'm still not convinced about the remakes coming to light (and won't be until they're actually released) but the included location data certainly is intriguing. Personally, I think whether they do anything with that location data will depend on sales of the existing games and Platinum.
