Ive never been a huge hand held fan, but I was thinking of getting a DS for Pokmeon Diamond or Pearl. But..

IDK if I should.

The last game I REALLY got into was Blue Version,

and then I beat Silver, but never really got into another after that.

Do you think it would be a bad idea for me to give Diamond or Pearl a shot?

Is it that radically different from the old days?

I have the Diamond verison of Pokemon and I really like it. It is different, but still the same in that your goal is to become the Pokemon Champion.

I got the decked out Pokemon one for Pearl.

I'm more of a console gamer myself, not biggie on handhelds. But always a fan of Pokemon.

Yeah it's worth giving a shot I don't personally think it's different from old days in terms of objective.... It's sorta a shot and miss on that one.

But it's good in game play and other things.

It'll be worth it, especially if you haven't played a Pokemon RPG since way back then. The changes may be a little much to take in at first, but I think you'll appreciate how much more fluid the gameplay is, down to little things like the pace of the game and the improvements made to the interface of things like PC boxes, which no longer require you to save the game to move from one box to another.

The new pokemon will seem a little strange at first, but they're something that you'll get used to, and that you'll develop favorites among them will come to be.

If you've waited this far along, I say it may be a good idea to hold out for Platinum, which will have nuances that will make it more enjoyable than it's predecessors, Diamond and Pearl. But go ahead and buy a DS in the meantime. There is a lot of games for that system to enjoy. I suggest one of the Castlevania games that are on DS. Final Fantasy Tactics for DS should also give you an RPG fix that will hold you over until Platinum gets here. There is a lot to choose from.

I think you should get a DS, but not for D/P.
its much too easy, and it will only be a little while before platinum comes out(about 6 months).
you will waste your money if you buy D/P, because platinum is the way to go.
until then, i can suggest some good DS games to keep you occupied.

I would actually wait until 2009 until Platinum comes out, since it's a sequel to D/P, but it is a lot better.
More features, new sprites, new areas, etc. :mudkip;):

Well you could wait until platinum comes out but then you would not have as much experience with the games.

Dude its like heaps, heaps, heaps different.
But its a good change. :) And the ds itself is also a pretty good buy. :) you can get a cheap one on ebay if your worried about money. And you can get a M3 or a R4 and put Music, Videos and Games you "Own" on your ds. 8]

For the people who said to wait for Platinum, well, sorry guys, your wrong.
You should get Diamond to get your feet wet first, get used to the area and learn about the Sinnoh region.See knew pokemon and ect, ect. I say get Diamond first so you get to know and learn about the knew generation and learn how to use it,(controls and touch pad uses ,ect) so you know how to use Platinum. Just my opinion.

Cheers,
TLM

Diamond and Pearl are both great games. I have the Pearl version cuz I wanted a Misdreavus since it's my favorite pokemon and it's exclusive to Pearl. It doesn't matter which one you get, but they are both insanely good games and I definitely recommend that you get it.

Either buy a DS or use an emulator [DS in computer]. But if you buy a DS, get DP. DP is your appetizer to play Platinum.

I'd reccomend to wait for Platinum first, seeing at how Emerald stood up above Ruby and Sapphire. But if you want to get one now, then what's so wrong with it? :)

The changes are almost all for the good. The quality of new pokemon has admittedly gone a bit down, but there are still some good ones (the starters are all cool, at least), and there's some old favorites around in D/P anyway.

The best change, IMO, was the physical/special split. It used to be that moves like Bite and Thunderpunch depended on your pokemon's special attack, so a pokemon like Alakazam would be good with Ice Punch but a pokemon like Hitmonchan would suck with it. In D/P they changed it so that each attack, regardless of type, is assigned to be physical or special. For this reason alone I'd buy D/P, but that's just me.
