Since... as I've (and you've all probably noticed), April fools 2007 at PC, and 2008 have lacked in the "fooling" aspect. However, it is not just that, as memorial type events, such as September 11, Mothers day... etc, fail to get recognised massively, I came up with an idea that if PC creates a specific event organising group, they'd have the responsibility to organise the events, and make PC more enjoyable to be at, during that event.

So yeah, opinions?

Sounds like a good idea, though how & who would be in this group?

I don't think such a group would be able to achieve much, considering that different countries have different events at different times. To organise something for each one would just be a bother in the end.

In most cases a single thread should suffice, don't you think?

And besides, most of the events I can think of would probably be best spent with family and friends around you. It's just not the same online.

But, the group could still do events like Christmas, Easter & such, couldn't it?

The problem with most events is that... only a handful of people celebrate it. April Fool's is good because it's at least widely known in most places. Even if it isn't "celebrated" somewhere, people know about it somehow, be it from TV or because of the internet and being hindered by jokes on every site they go to. :P And it's not religious so it works out.

But when you start getting into holidays, and memorials... that's when I disagree with having an event every time. We have things like get-togethers at Hallowe'en, but while it's spooky-themed, it's still just a get together first and foremost. For the examples in this thread, Mother's Day? The date is different in certain countries. Not to mention... I'm sure only a handful of people on PC are actually mothers so what would the point of having an event be? o_O The most I can think of would be a thread for discussing peoples' mothers. Or a thread like "what are you going to get your mom for Mother's Day?" (which we usually have thanks to people looking for suggestions XD). As for Christmas, Easter, etc. Those are religious holidays. If we cover those, I know at least I would feel obligated to cover holidays from other religions and that's just a lot of work. D: And as for September 11, I think to hold any sort of event would be a little... odd. A thread to hold everyone's thoughts, condolences, reactions, etc. is perfectly enough for me. D:

I don't really have a problem with holding get-togethers with a loose theme based around holidays. (Like maybe a winter themed one during Christmastime?) But having specific events for each holiday just seems a little pointless to me. Even outsourcing the work to a special group? That's a lot of events in one year. I just don't see the need. 8|

...and all in all, whether are ideas are funny or not, we quite like organizing April Fool's on our own. :(

Even IF only a handful of people celebrate it, having events to lighten the mood of PC can help with conflicts, etc.

But the get togethers would be better if they had a specific day and reason to occur, such as if they only occured during the PC anniversary week.

And Halloween... well, I haven't really noticed the other get togethers, but last years wasn't scary...

Yeah, mothers day was the first thing that can to my mind. XD;

Although, because PC is a mainly English based forum, and plus Christian is the main religion... or, (if this event group happened) they can have representatives from other cultures that want to mke the events significant.

Um yeah... I take back the sep 11.

But what about the members who can't donate/aren't staff... by doing this we'd feel more apart of PC/something?

... meh, if I dunno what I'm typing about I'm getting yelled at so yeah. XD;;

don't you think it would cause too much problems?
People would post "why isn't this holiday in?", and some may even be offending to people, like religious holidays.
And there are so many holidays, depending on the country and religion.
that would take up too much time, and the only thing would be a certain theme, base, etc.
it doesn't wound like its worth the time.

I don't think such a group would be able to achieve much, considering that different countries have different events at different times. To organise something for each one would just be a bother in the end.
exactly, it would be hard and it would be too much effort for something not that important.

In most cases a single thread should suffice, don't you think?
In most cases, but there will be people who don't search and just post a pointless thread asking about a holiday, which will really get annoying.

besides, why make themes/bases/etc. based off of every holiday if you can do the same thing at home?
if you wanted _______ holiday, then do it with your family and friends, not online.
