I consider the mythological elements to be Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, Light and Dark.
I love all of them equally, though my love for any random one of them grows a little bit more at times, and then becomes equal again.

I'm not fond of the elements in the periodic table, not much... But Sulphur, Oxygen, Astatine and eka-radon do catch my attention a little bit more...

If the question is respectably scientific, it would be:
Cobalt

If the question is respectably related to Avatar, it would be:
Earth and Air

If the question is respectably related to Pokemon, it would be:
Dragon and Fire

My choices are out of balance, I think...

Water, by far.

I love it and it suits me perfectly.
Can't really say it any better. Water is my favorite element, hands down.

The element of surprise!

Water. Only because we couldn't live without it.
'It's been a prevalent notion. Fallen sparks. Fragments of vessels broken at the Creation. And someday, somehow, before the end, a gathering back to home. A messenger from the Kingdom, arriving at the last moment. But I tell you there is no such message, no such home -- only the millions of last moments . . . nothing more. Our history is an aggregate of last moments.'

I hear ya, my aqua brotha. :P

Water is definitely a force to be reckoned with. I've loved it since I first visited Niagra Falls, followed by taking favorite characters in shows with Water Pokemon and Sailor Mercury back when a nine year old guy watching Sailor Moon didn't raise eyebrows. XDD

I like fire: the color, the heat, the way it dances and gives off light... it's just fascinating.

Water's a really close second, though. I love swimming and taking showers. Fish are cool, too, and where would they be without water? :(

As for scientific elements, I'll say hydrogen. Because I can, really. It's also in water... ;D

I'll make a proper signature when Pokecommunity gets a proper slogan

I don't use "uber" Pokemon, I don't calculate stat values,
I don't breed my way to perfection, and I don't care about
natures. I catch my Pokemon the way they are, and treat them
like individuals instead of brainless drones. If you use this
philosophy, copy & paste this into your signature.

If you think harder, then you'll realize you can't live without any of the mythological elements.

So you think you can stay without breathing air (wind) for more than two minutes?
Or could you live without sun (fire), without which all plants would die, and destroy the food chain?
Or can you neglect earth, again without which all the plants wouldn't live and you couldn't extract minerals/metals without which you wouldn't have the PC screen in front of you?

You can't ignore any of them...

Lats I checked electricity wasn't one of the basic elements. Anyway I'd have to go with Wind, but I have been rather partial to Water. I mean...Wind is just awesome, I love when it's really windy outside. It's even better if I'm wearing a jacket.
