Quoth the thread title, 'Do you Recycle?'.
By 'recycling', I mean actual physical conservation. Furthermore, the definition of recycling, according to
dictionary.com, is "to treat or process (used or waste materials) so as to make suitable for reuse: recycling paper to save trees."
To prevent this from being a simple yes or no thread, I'll promote further discussion with these questions~:
If you recycle:
- Why do you recycle?
- Specifically, what do you recycle?
- What steps do you go through in order to recycle?
If you don't recycle:
- Why don't you recycle?
- Do you think recycling is a good thing to do?
- Do you think recycling helps?
- Do you ever plan on starting to recycle?
Personally, I recently started recycling more often. :)
I recycle because I want to help make a difference - I want to help conserve our resources instead of making new ones. It's the strategic thing to do, in my opinion. I see no reason why not to recycle if it somewhat helps. As it stands now, society as a whole is essentially a 'disposable society'. When you're done with something, you just toss it in the trash, which goes to a landfill/incinerator.
However, you only have resources like landfills for so often. Eventually, we'll run out.
Instead of burning it so it's not usable again, why
not take it to a center to make something previously useless in to something functional. :)
As I previously stated, we recently started recycling more often - we recycled in the past, yet it was only aluminum cans.
We stopped doing that for a while, but now we have recently started doing so again at the insistence of not only myself but also my father.
However, now we've started to recycle plastics such as water bottles, milk jugs, bread sacks, and we're planning on getting a trash can for paper-related products for newspapers and other various forms of paper. Probably the only thing left would be glass, but we don't really use stuff that's made of glass much any more.
In order to recycle, we crush our cans/bottles/milk jugs/etc to conserve space in the bag and then keep doing this until the bag is full. Then, out goes the bag and in goes another. Eventually, the bag is hoisted to the recycling center and... the cycle keeps going. :)
And, go~!
