I can understand that he was being a bit paranoid. It's acceptable when you've been robbed and shot within the year, but shooting someone without even knowing who it is?

It's Hallowe'en, man. Have some common sense.
'It's been a prevalent notion. Fallen sparks. Fragments of vessels broken at the Creation. And someday, somehow, before the end, a gathering back to home. A messenger from the Kingdom, arriving at the last moment. But I tell you there is no such message, no such home -- only the millions of last moments . . . nothing more. Our history is an aggregate of last moments.'

Actually, it'd probably be the best night to rob someone. You can walk around wearing a mask and not look suspicious, eople willingly open their doors for people they don't know, and no one is gonna suspect a thing since it's Halloween.

Geez...how disturbing. D: That poor kid... The last time I went trick or treating was when I was like 9 or 10. I was tempted to go this year for some reason, but I decided to go to a Halloween party instead.

Hardly anything is safe to do nowadays. :(

Yes, but he hadn't even opened the door. He didn't know who was there. You're meant to expect people on Hallowe'en and yes, it is advised to remain vigilant, but you're meant to have common sense as well. Of all nights, this is the most likely that someone will come knocking at your door. Would you not at least answer it with the rifle in hand instead of shooting through the door?

He needs a reality check.

I don't believe his chosen course of action was entirely unjustified, and think he should instead be charged with something like "assault without intent to kill".
I'm assuming he just opened the door or a window partially and blindfired — a very presumptuous action, hardly worth the trouble it incurred. He probably just didn't think about what he was doing; well all do stupid things, and there are time stupid things go too far.

I'd just fine this Patrick at least $100,000 and leave it at that.

So another kid got shot.
Tons of kid in Africa die of starvation,
and at the same time,
tons of kids in Africa get shot by rebels.
Isn't it funny how when one kid dies in America,
all of a sudden the world stops?
When someone dies in Africa,
they're lucky if they get buried.

This is why I don't go trick or treating, because of these nuts out there; for those who do trick or treat it's usually best to knock on houses of people you know, friends, family, friends family etc.

I hope the parents take this far, because this needs to go far, it's unacceptable that somebody who obviously was still unstable was let out and then managed to get hold of a weapon.

I hope you can share that same heartwarming outlook if a member of your family gets shot down in cold blood.

"Mom got shot in the face while she was out shopping? Am I supposed to be upset? People are killed all the time, why should one more death affect me?"

It makes sense we only mourn those close to us, and ignore many other human deaths; quite simply, if we mourned everyone we'd spend ten lifetimes and a half doing so — this, and that other person's relatives are there to mourn them instead anyway.
Perhaps it's just social etiquette to act like we care about this particular person who has been shot? We're just "sorry to hear it" because we've grown up in such a society that we say this, like our parents do, like their parents did, and like their parents did, and so on.

Geez, what's with that idiot? Anyone could guess it's 31st October and of course kids are gonna go dress up. Well I went in a crowd, and I was going with my best friend so I know we wouldn't get shot or something. I live in a nice area. But you gotta be kidding me: "He thought he was being robbed." THAT IS THE STUPIDEST EXCUSE I HAVE EVER HEARD OF!
