What are the worst things about ads on web pages?

First, most ads are for adults,
I've seen many dating and business ads that children/teens does not care.
Some video gaming forums puts card game and RPG ads, however, most video gamers will stick to Pokemon/Naruto/Mega Man, they does not try new things such as Angels Online and Stone Age

Second, ads are annoying
Some ads use Java/Flash/bugs to try to bypass popup blockers. Some "sticky notes" ads are also unavoidable. On Bulbapedia, some double-underlined links are popup hover ads. Ads just waste resource.

The only bad thing about website & forum ads are that they slightly annoy me sometimes. I sometimes care about Free Games...but not all the damn time @[email protected] I couldn't care less about ads for adults.

I never complain about internet ads, seeing as they're the main reason why so much web content is free.

I wouldn't really consider ads to be annoying, moreover just "tedious".
The slowdown doesnt' bother me; The RPG only slightly bugs me; and the adults only one gets me mad since i'm not an adult and becuase most of them are useless.
I'd say the adult one is the most annoying.

They make the page look bad e.g There is a really good page with Blue background and detailed boxes and then in the middle a white rectangle, with written "Click here for free Money". or "Free online RPG, play with millions of members."

Hate them, Most of them are for adults. The worst ads are on the torrent websites, simply disgusting. I choose all of your options from the poll.

I don't think the first point's necessarily true, but I guess a lot of sites with Google ads often show some adult ads. Most websites I've visited have had pretty relevant ads, though. Though the RPG ads here are lame.

A lot of the time precious resources are wasted though, and that point is probably universally agreed upon. It's especially bad when popups try to evade conventional blocking. Sites even try to plant Javascript ads. IGN and like sites also plant ads between pages, or plant an ad while the page is loading. And often the ads between pages are large.

Anyone like skyscraper ads? I think that's what ads that have a top and left banner are called. Now that's annoying. Or, nowadays you have long ads before videos too, blocking out other content and taking away a precious megabyte of data before disappearing.

You think that's bad? Windows Live Hotmail screams of bad ad placement.

The adult ads are the most annoying for me. I use to go on torrent sites. And the ads were.. ugh. But, I don't go to those anymore. Really nothing else about them annoy me. Except the ones that make sound or is so full of javascript, that it freezes my browser.

The above banner was made for my bf..... so it has a lot of sentimental value. I wuvs him very much. <3

Some ads makes sounds, they are most annoying.
I agree with that, those are the most annoying ads, imo. I mean there's nothing as annoying as surfing the web only to have some stupid smiley's ad scream across the the speakers "Heyyyy!"

WHY HASN'T THIS BEEN MENTIONED MORE!?!?!?

Who cares about the adult dating ads when you accidentally leave your mouse somewhere while a page loads only to be greeted by "HEEEEEEEEEYYY 8DDD" when the ad that loads under it happens to be a flash ad with embedded sound for mouseovers. I hate those ads SO much.

I used to hate pop-up (and pop-under) ads but barely anyone uses those anymore, or if they do, they're blocked. But yeah, with ad-block I rarely see ads unless I'm using a different browser. :B

Ads can be really annoying. The ones I hate the most and the ones like Gerri talked about, or the once announcing you won a free ipod or Mac or something. And it just keeps talking and won't shut up >__>

Remember the way I was, for me.

You're all completely right. The more and more I see ads, the more and more mature they get. I mean, there are ads placed (for me, anyway) on some sites that have someone stripping on it. I don't believe ads should be on any site, but they need the money eventually (if it becomes that popular) to pay for the bills because it just gets more and more of a stress and cost to have a website these days. It's terrible, but I can understand. But so long as it's not a pop up ad, I'm fine with having ads on my page. It's called AdBlock ;].

Agreed, Thankfully I utilize addons like AdBlockPlus and NoScript to squelch annoying advertisements :D

If a text ad annoys me I just 'RIP' it out of the page (meaning my browser wont parse it at all) it's not like I'm being heartless in doing so, but I'm not going to leave annoying ads in place, besides, I support sites I frequent, Like this one and a few others.

I disagree with your options. The worst thing about advertisements is that some of them have tracking cookies or even viruses hidden inside them, which then get stuck in your computer.

I really don't mind the simple little text Google ads that are placed on most sites and forums. They pull up semi-relevant information and they don't really bother your internet experience.

Pop-ups and ads that have sound files attached are the one's that should just be taken down off of every site we have ever had the displeasure of witnessing them on. I mean, my lord the little "OH MY GOD! NO WAY!!" smiley just scares the living daylights out of me everytime I accidentally hover my mouse over it.

I don't really have a problem with adult-oriented ads either. Whether it's a simple dating service or something a tad bit more risque, I know they won't cause me any harm because I don't have the desire to click on them. I know the website or forum in question needs the revenue from them; I just go about my business and ignore them.

Some Flash ads even crash my computer because of memory leaks.

Some ads are even Java, which slow down most.

If some blind person browse the Internet with screen reader then a popup appears, the blind person will lose track.

If you are putting an ad, use Google AdSense, because other ads are very bad
