I was wondering how many people hear have ever watch or read M*A*S*H, I know it's old and all. But I know, that it was the most watched thing ever, so I'm guessing someone else has heard of it ...

The movie is ok- never read the book.
Love the series, used to watch it everyday after school... when it was on after school

I am a HUGE fan of MASH. I love watching the series, its many times funny but very serious. Where I live, its on for 3 hours on 2 different channels, so I get my fill. I'm considering buying (cough downloading) the whole series.

I liked the TV series as a kid, but the themes went over my head. But in high school I saw the movie and that was amazingly powerful. Donald Sutherland is hilarious. It's now on my top 10 movie list. It's really worth a watch if you've never seen it, even if you didn't like the tv series (because it became before it).

Well of course the over-arching theme of the series is that war is bad, but you've got to admit that in the later years when Alda was the executive producer, they tackled a lot of relevant themes that either was a deeper look at the horrors of war, or the interpersonal debates of life and death for the doctors. It's been so long since I've seen an episode, but I do know that they weren't so blunt as to merely focus on the horrors of war every episode. It would've lost its flavor long before the end of its run if that were true.

Oh, yeah, I'm stupid, I thought you meant theme songs like another one beside Suicide is Painless ...

My grandpa was actually in a M*A*S*H unit (not the 4077, of course, but I wish...). I love that show to death, but I haven't read the book. I'm not sure if I'd enjoy it as much, what I really liked about the show was the acting. Alan Alda is a genius.
