This is a rather simple question that needs no explanation.

What is your internet provider? Do you consider it a reliable provider to you? Or is it something that you'd rather switch out of given the chance to do so?

My provider is Comcast. I would consider this company obsessed with money because every chance that they have, they just keep trying to get more and more money from us. Be it from visits, installations, etc. I just find it very unfair for them to be doing this. As far as being a good provider, it's quite the contrary for me. My internet is down whenever I'm not using it for more than four or so hours which is rather strange if you ask me. I come home from school and just wait and wait and wait until it's back up. Unfortunately, my father is very fond of Comcast and we won't be switching out of their service for what seems to be ever. Aside from that, the only service that is in my area is Comcast. Although, if I'd switch to any service, I'd be switching to AT&T in a heartbeat. I've heard from my friends from other areas, and internet friends who have it, that it's a very reliable service and in cell phone relations, I believe it's also one of the best.

So, what about you?

Ah, you have heard good things about AT&T? Well that's nice to hear; my mother was thinking of switching our service provider to that very same company!

Right now my internet is provided throught the use of Comcast as well. Personally, I have never had any problems with in in my area. They charged the fee to install it, then began charging me every month for its use. Never once has it gone down, unless we're talking about power outages, and I seem to like it a lot.

It sure as heck beats Embark any day of the week, I can barely ever get that dang thing to work over at my fathers! The whole system is so dang buggy. :/

All of Comcast services go out in an outage at least once a week over where I live. We didn't pay a fee for them to install it (since we installed it ourselves), but we did for them to install other various aspects of their services. And as far as AT&T, so long as another Comcast user is planning on switching their service to that, I don't think I'll regret trying that one day. Aside from that, AT&T has a browser (and is coming out with another one as well) that I am looking foward to testing out one day if I could. On top of that, Comcast support only offers support for Internet Explorer which is annoying because I never use that.

I've got Verizon DSL. the only complaint I could have is that I think they throttle torrents during the day, other than that I get great service. (I get around 1 to 1.3 gigbits per second.

We use Bell Sympatico. I can't stand them--their speeds are never anywhere near what they advertise and this year we've had a LOT of problems with our internet, where it'll only work sporadically, or the router will completely stop working and any computer not wired to the modem/router will just stop working. I know they must throttle torrent speeds these days because I don't get nearly the same speeds I used to a few years ago. 8/ Any time I do call them up to complain about speeds or downtime, they always blame it on torrenting whether I am at the moment or not. It's ridiculous.

Given the chance, I don't know if I'd switch though. There really aren't that many high-speed options in Canada. Rogers and Bell are the two big ones and most of the others just aren't very good, or they're subsidiaries (sort of) of Bell and thus their speeds get throttled too. We get a TV/phone/internet bundle from Bell, so it's a lot cheaper than Rogers' so even if I wouldn't mind trying out Rogers' internet, it just isn't an option because my parents won't switch the package over. 8/

I have Road Runner from TimeWarner Cable. Like Lightning, my family has an Internet/phone/TV combo, which is cheaper apparently. Their Internet service is reliable, but when it goes out, so does the phone because we have Internet phone (then again so does the TV, since it's all cable.)

We used to have Adelphia before they were bought out by Comcast and TimeWarner. The only changes I've seen are: a new modem, a new cable box, and some logo changes. I'm not obsessed with speed, but it is decent.

EDIT: I read about someone who has satellite Internet and apparently it SUCKS. They have like a 200MB cap per day! The service is called HughesNet.

my ISP is bigpond, terrible provider IMO everything seems to be slower in speed than when I was with asdl (right now I have a cable connection) I have a 20gb cap, which is used for both on peak and off peak so it kinda sucks for me and my mass downloading :x and if I had the chance I'd switch to another company that offers bigger caps for a lower price with cable or better :x

We use Big Air and they're absolutely crap. I've asked my parents to get a better ISP numerous times way back but they always reply by saying they're the only ISP available in the area so I guess I'll have to live with them.

I have Verizon DSL, and I REALLY can't complain. It's reliable, and works out really well in the end. I love it.

Where I'm living right now offers Roadrunner High Speed at no extra cost. It was out for a couple of hours a few days ago, but a call to tech support allowed me to get it up and running with a little DIY work with a box that's in my unit. It's fast enough for most of what I do, including streaming video.

Overall, I can't complain. But a few months ago, I was stuck with dial-up AOL out of necessity, and that I can find PLENTY to complain about. At least getting it canceled wasn't a hassle. I've heard horror stories about that, and it had me scared.

I'm almost completely positive, since we have a Time Warner package for television, that we're using Roadrunner and not Verizon. I dunno, that might change sometime soon. either way, my network is always fast and reliable and just last year started working with my DS's wifi. <3 yayyy.

I once had Time Warner Cable, but it had too much downtime and daddy went bananzar. :(

So we switched to AT&T for reliable service and I've surfed the Pokecommunity Happily ever after.

Wow. I feel like an Ad...

started with pro-quality, but slow, DSL from the phone co. got comcast now cause its way faster but a lot less reliable and doesn't allow 'servers'

If it was priced better, I'd get a GigaE 1gb fiber/ethernet link, but thats just a dream at this time as they are way expensive

DSL through the local phone company in my case but I can't complain as it seems to be nearly 100% reliable and is perhaps one of the fastest DSL networks in the state at 5 Mbps while most places just get 640 Kbps or 768K at the most. Where I am this is the only option as Comcast cable has no presence and neither does AT&T or Time Warner and the cable company in this town is just a 1985 vintage 30 channel system. There is absolutely no monthly cap either which is a great thing because I think I might have hit it already if there was one though.

My provider is WTC. It's run somewhere in Kingston, and has to travel all the way to Westport; obviously, it's horrible. We have at least three problems a week. Be it no 'Local Area Connection' (or whatever it's called), certain sites inaccessible, or it's just running really slow, there always seems to be something wrong with our internet.

Unfortunately, we're unable to switch. Our twon has a population of 700. I don't think Bell or Rogers are going to think about providing here anytime soon. XD;

I hate my ISPs, even though it is pretty cheap. Most the time my Internet doesn't work. Sometimes It's very fast and Sometimes It's very slow and then it's even MORE slow.

I use LAN. You won't know LCCN, they are my ISPs. It stands for lord city cable net.

My ISP is Charter (Cable). The service is very reliable and decently priced. Speed is 5Mbps and I usually get 4-4.5 and they are one of the few ISPs left that dont have a download cap although thats likely to change

Downside is all tech support is overseas (cant speak english worth a crap) and they dont support anything other than IE (which of course doesnt run on Mac or Linux)

I had Comcast for a long time and I can honestly say that they are one of the worst ISPs in existence. I had nothing with problems (ranging from the connection dropping very frequently to not getting anywhere near the bandwidth we were paying for to completely useless customer support). Unfortunately, for quite a while, they were the only choice in our area outside of dial-up.

Finally, Verizon came through and ran fiber to our town and we switched to their FiOS service immediately. Since then, I couldn't be happier. The speed always stays around what's advertised (which is 20 Mbps for our account) and sometimes even slightly exceeds it, I can't remember the last time the connection dropped (if it even has at all), and while their technical support is still rather useless, it's definitely better than Comcast's. Over all, if you have the option, I'd definitely recommend Verizon FiOS.
