I'm not exactly sure where this thread is supposed to lead to.
But I will state that I have confidence in Obama.
I think he's making very wise choices about who he's putting in the house.
And even though he's not extremely experienced, he's surrounding himself with people who are.

Hmmm...After 2 weeks of rest from politics...are we going to come back and talk about it? I mean this US election cycle has been one of the most throughly watched, analyzed, lampooned, hyped up, and talked about since I can remember. Plus with so much that hangs in the balance...as some of the topics I posted up in that poll in the other thread...I need to unwind for a while. =P

Edit: I forgot to add- "and any other paradoxical adjectives you can add" XD

It has been leaked that New York Federal Reserve President Timothy Geithner is to be appointed to the position of the Secretary of the Treasury. It also appears that Sen. Hilliary Clinton (D-N.Y) is to be appointed to Secretary of State.

The purpose of the thread is to debate the choices that the President-elect has made for the Cabinet. I find that he made a good choice for the above positions.

Geithner I like...Hilary, eh. I can't stop envisioning her as the SNL Hilary XD She's going to still be in the Presidential race the night before Obama's induction.
Ok I'm ready to start talking again =P

But I'm seeing that the Liberals are complaining that "there's nochange" XD Well even though I support liberalism...I'm not complaining on his picks. Washington's like that and since Obama's inexperienced...he's picking smart people. ^_^

I'm proud of most of his picks, actually, he's doing a very nice job to smooth into his position. :mudkip^_^:

So, did I hear correctly he'll be selecting his economic peeps today/soon?

Yup he is...It was already leaked around Thursday that Timothy Geitner was going to be US Treasury secretary. And I've read in Newsweek about that possibility during the Economic Crisis a couple of weeks ago during the Bail-out so I'm not much surprised. ^_^

BBC: KEY ECONOMIC APPOINTMENTS

US Treasury secretary:
Timothy Geithner, president, New York Federal Reserve

Director, White House National Economic Council:
Lawrence Summers, former Treasury secretary

Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers:
Christina Romer, co-director, National Bureau of Economic Research

Also I'm happy with the Hillary pick for Secretary of State 'cuz I did support her during the primaries. =P

Anyways should I revive my old thread? =/

I don't get it. Where has it been confirmed that she is appointed to be Secretary of State? Is there a source?
Well...I think it hasn't been confirmed...But almost everyone agrees that it's Hillary (A leak from the secretive Obama circle) =O

You may because there are two outstanding Senate races. The one in Minnesota is in the middle of a recount and the one in Georgia is going to have a runoff election on December 2. The outcome of both will determine if the Democrats have a filibuster proof majority.

It appears that the current Secretary of Defense Robert Gates is going to stay on and Eric Holder will be nominated Attorney General. Also Gov. Bill Richardson (D-N.M.) is going to be Secretary of Commerce.

I do have a concern about the Eric Holder appointment. This is because he played an important role in the pardoning of Marc Rich, a fugitive and a Democratic fundraiser.

The 60-40 Filibuster Proof Senate is technically only symbolical since not every Democrat will caucus one way...but I might post results later. =/

Also Hurray! Hillary Clinton is now officially Secretary of State-elect. ^_^

Today Barack Obama has announced that he will nominate Gen. Eric K. Shinseki (Ret.) for the post of Secretary of Veterans Affairs. He rose to prominence in 2003 by saying the invasion and occupation for Iraq was too small.

Well as it turns out that assessment was quite correct. Former Defense Sec. Donald Rumsfeld initially wanted a go in and then pull out fast. But that plan was in conflict with the Administrations "Democracy Building" plans so...here we are now...about 5 years later...

I know. I'm quite Liberal but I approve of Obama's use of Centrist ways with a progressive touch. You can't get anything done in Washington W/O compromise and he knows it. =P

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. In the time since I last posted, President-elect Obama has finished filling out his cabinet nominations. Here are the appointments he has made since I last posted:
  • Secretary of Agriculture: Tom Vilsack
  • Secretary of Education: Aren Duncan
  • Secretary of Energy: Steven Chu
  • Secretary of Interior: Ken Salazar
  • Secretary of Housing and Urban Development: Shaun Donovan
  • Secretary of Labor: Hilda Solis
  • Secretary of Transportation: Ray LaHood

It appears that Bill Richardson is withdrawing his name for consideration due to an investigation in New Mexico that could delay the conformation process.
