Have you noticed that some of the summons, aeons, GF's, materia, or whatever, that they have mythological names?

Odin: One eye guy who always seams to ride a horse with some wickedly strong sword.
Gilgemesh: Which is in like one game FF8 (The card) he was supposed to be like Zeus if not he was Zeus.
Tiamat: Some evil serpent.
Borseas: Some God who was more of a warrior.

One thing that bothered me though why are they used as summons in RPG's?

And some of them I don't know if there greek gods or what not...here are some.

Ifrit, Shiva, Quesicotol, Eden, Bahamut, and some others. If anyone knows what culture there from plese let me know. :)

What I really want to know I guess, is whats their signifigince in RPG's?

um... TONS of mythical reference in RPGs...

Midgar Zolom (of FF7)- reference to the giant snake within the Norse myth who surrounds the land of the Gods. I believe its name is Zolom as well...

Shiva- an indian GOD (not a goddess like what FF suggested). Since encarta refered that Shiva has a wife not a husband... unless she marries another goddess...

Odin- lord of the gods in Norse myth. his sword is made of the "world tree" itself (tha'ts one sharp wood sword)

Golem- common enemies or even a summon in RPGs. It is a jewish monster in the past but now it's more likely refered to any mindless creature made out of any material

i'll post more later...

Final Fantasy can't seem to get it right though, they tend to mix all the mythologies together.

Norse~Odin
Arab~Bahamut & Ifrit
Christianity~Diablos & Leviathan
Greek~Odin also which is messed up, Gilgimesh, and a few others.
Hinduism~Shiva
By the way these are all from one game... Oh well GF's, Summons, and Aeons are all cool so who cares.

My favorite is well just look at my Avatar...Odin for those that don't know.

Ultima: "last syllable of a word" (so pretty much "the end"). Also it just so happens to be part of the word "ultimate" as well.

Leviathan is general is just a giant sea monster... not only the Holy Bible but tons of other places uses that word too when referring to Kraken like creatures.

Gilgamesh is also the oldest book found in history of humans (strangely Old Testament is only 2nd... i dont know why). It's the first fictional book found as well, with the hero being called "Gilgamesh". Has tons of biblical story references.

i'll be back later to see if i can find more...
