I reckon you should either trade Scyther there and back to get Scizor, or if that's impossible get yourself a Steel Wormadam. Those pesky Flying-types won't be so tough after that. ;)

Yeah, Slash is broken in Gen. 1 - it doesn't benefit from Swords Dance at all.
But if you have a Base speed of over 63, it always crits. So that really doesn't matter.
What he said.

I have no way to trade, but Steel Wormadam seems like a good idea to me. The only reason why I didn't get one yet is my massive dislike towards honey trees. Too bad I'm still in Distortion World right before the Cyrus battle, so there's no way back for me. The only thing I could try would be losing, and then hoping that I get back to Hearthome's Pokemon Center.

Update: Forget about Wormadam-S or whatever other way to beat Flyers , I managed to beat Cyrus now, so
I'm not going to see many of them at once any more.
This time I used Scyther as my lead in the first thing that happened was Houndoom getting OHKOd. Then, against Honchkrow, I put Yanmega in, and Ancientpowered it to death. Also got a boost. Next was Crobat. That thing that utterly destroyed me the last time. This time things were different. Yanmega was alive, and severly damaged it with a boosted Ancientpower before going down. Next turn, he healed Crobat and Scyther's Aerial Ace did about 2/3. Next turn, Air Slash didn't crit, instead he got a flinch. Oh great. I already thought i was losing again. But miraculously, Scyther surived the next Air Slash with just 2 HO left and KOd Crobat. But, I was still far away from winning this, since all useful healing items in my bag were 2 Hyper Potions and 1 Full Restore. The first of these Hyper Potions got used in the next turn while Gyarados' Ice Fang only did about 1/3. Then, I got a Aerial Ace crit in the next turn that bypassed my -1 Attack from Intimidate and OHKOd Gyarados. Suddenly there was hope again. But my victory was not ensured yet, since Crobat managed to outspeed Scyther , it is not impossible that Weavile can do that as well. And, even if not, it could still have Ice Shard which would definetely hurt. Luckily, none of these did happen and Brick Break OHKOd the thing.
Next: Giratina. I hope Scyther's Night Slash will be able to take it down.

Ok, so it's been a long time since I've written here.

Sooooo, I evolved Collossus and battled my way throught S.S Anne, then beat Lt. Surge very easily (dig is my friend).
Then I took PIkachu out of the PC to give it Flash (and caught a Pidgey to give it Fly). Went trough Rock Tunnel, no problems. Arrived to Lavender town, tried to catch a Cubone, but remembered that the Silph Co. was needed fot them also. So I went to Celadon, beat Team Rocket (All of Giovanni's team lost, one by one, to Mafiosos). I got the Silph Co, but I decided to pay Erika a visit before returning to the pokemon tower. Fortunatly for me, her team is composed of almost grass/poison types only, so dig went through them all. I got fly also. So now I'm here, in front of the pokemon tower (and I want a Cubone ><;).

My team as of right now:

Collossus lvl 34

-Rock slide
-Body slam
-Rock throw
-Selfdestruct

Mafiosos lvl 35

-Slash
-Cut
-Dig
-Sand-attack

Sandrine lvl 35

-Scratch
-Dig
-Slash
-Poison sting

Shirley lvl 3

-Gust
-Fly

Guess who's too lazy and too busy to post updates? That's right! Me! Gee, I wonder why I'm so reluctant to play this game. Maybe because it's so freaking slow. ... at least it's better than Pearl, though.

On the plus side, I figured out what I'm going to nickname my Houndour when I get him. Yeah, it's a him. And it's another video game reference.

  • Destroyed Team Galactic and saved the bike dude person. Thanks for a free bike!
  • Escorted what's-her-face in that cave. What is it called again? The Wayward Cave or something? I don't know. I don't really care about what's-her-face either.
  • Dangit, Rafiki. You need a better fighting move. Mach Punch can't even OHKO Geodudes that are 8 to 10 levels below Rafiki. I really wish I had Zara back... sigh. Why aren't you as awesome as Zara, Rafiki?
  • I swear this game is on slow motion or something. And I accidentally bought a bag of mulch because I was mashing the A button. Mulch? Seriously? Whatever happened to just picking a berry off a tree and waiting for another one the next day? Also, what happened to the contests? Accessories? Dancing? Really? You can tell how sore I am about this game, huh?
  • Also, this game doesn't think that my Agro is cute. Those bas-
  • Although I have to say, I laughed at the trainer in front of Amity Square who was complaining that the attendant wouldn't let his Gyarados and Steelix into the park. Hahaha!
  • W-w-w-wait just a minute. I have to fight Fantina now? Great. I wanted to rush ahead so I could get to Route 214 and catch a Houndour but nooo.
  • Sob. Fantina has a different gym puzzle. I kind of liked the old one. The things that the Gym trainers said amused me. They were all, "You messed up on purpose, didn't you?" and, "Y'know, your Poketch has a calculator, right?"
  • ... that was stupid. Why did they make her the third gym leader? That was so pointless. Fantina's fight was actually somewhat awesome in Pearl, but, now, she's downgraded to level 24's. Sigh. I'm hating this more and more.

Hang on to Beedrill for when you get to Agatha; Ghost doesn't resist Bug in Gen.I, and Poison is weak to Bug for... some reason...

If you still have the TM you got from Erica/Erika, I'd give that to Parasect. Who did you start with? Oh, nevermind, I see it. Why did you give it to Butterfree? For that matter, why does she have Solarbeam?

I've never used Pinsir, so I can't make a call one way or another.

Allright, it's update time! It's a pretty short one though since I spent a lot of time trying to beat Misty...
-After beating my rival, I took on nugget bridge and beat all the trainers easily.
-Fought my way over to Bill's house and saved him from...himself I guess
-beat all the trainers in Misty's gym.
-Saved game before battling Misty herself.
-On my 19th attempt :( I got very lucky. She used an X-Defend on staryu, which didn't prevent it from being killed by Mega Punch. Then she sent out Starmie, which went first and used water gun (thankfully not bubblebeam). I survived with 6 HP, and I thought it was over since Starmie's faster. I had taken out 3/4 of its health with mega punch though. Then, I used Mega punch again, hoping for the best and...she used another X-Defend. *facepalm*
-Beat the rocket and got Dig! I replaced Selfdestruct, since i'm not going to have anyone else until i reach Cinnabar, it's sort of useless.
-Fought down to Vermillion.
-Saved Game

Finally, I'm done.

I've completed the first leg of the Ultimate Monotype Challenge!

Fire Red version using only Fire types - complete!

Although I really am starting to regret it; it feels way too hard.

Everything ends,
and that's always sad.
But everything begins again, too,
and that's always happy.

Fire
Monotype Challenge: Part 59 - FREAKING HECK!

Trainer Name: Seb
Badges: 4
Generation: IV (on Platinum)
Location: Veilstone City

Log
:
  • Left Hearthome and Rafiki epically failed in a rival battle with Ezlo. Zara? Where are you when I need you! (If you don't know, Zara is/was my Blaziken)
  • Ran over to Veilstone and headed south to find a Houndour. It only took me five minutes to find a male Houndour! I was quite happy. Agro managed to whittle its health down with Ember. I was ready to start throwing Poke Balls when... it used Roar? Crap. Why didn't I see it coming?!
  • Rafiki finally got up to level 36 and evolved into a crazy looking monkey on fire. And you know what else? He still can't OHKO Rock types that are over 10 levels under him unless he uses Close Combat! Wow! I'm impressed. Finally found a Houndour after about 30 minutes. About time. I just started chucking Great Balls and hoping for the best. I finally caught a Houndour. Thank goodness! I named him Dante.
  • Went through that wannabe Pokemon Tower place. What is it called? Lost Tower? Whatever. I started grinding up Dante. Things kept happening that just freaking irritated me (Dante's first battle against a Driftblim. It was painfully slow, but he finally won, right? Wrong! The damn blimp Pokemon has Aftermath, which meant Dante fainted too! Mrrggh.) That didn't happen once, nor twice, but three times. Then I got screwed over by a ton of confusion hax. YAY FUN.
  • By the way, it took me nearly an hour just to get Dante up 8 levels. At the end of the hour, I now hate: Driftblim, Lickitung, and Togepi (yes, Togepi), but at least I have a level 30 Houndoom, who is pretty awesome.
  • At this point, I'm really annoyed, so I decided to take out my anger against the gym. Thank goodness the puzzle changed. I really hated the previous one. Anyway, Dante of all Pokemon got to take out Maylene's Lucario. And he's weak to Fighting and he has pretty bad defenses. See? This is what awesome is, as opposed to another member of my team.
Team:
I really don't care and I don't feel like it. I have an awesome horse on fire, an awesome devil hound, and a ridiculous monkey on fire. End.

I probably have a dislike towards Infernape because I prefer Blaziken, design-wise and... awesomeness-wise, I guess, but whatever.

Hi, I would like to try this using the Flying type. This will be a slightly more humourous account instead of the same old:

Named myself Jack, named my rival Gary.
Got a Potion from the PC

ETC....

Sorry if you don't find it funny.

= Part One: The Winds of a New Adventure Blow =

First, I told Professor Oak my name, and also the idiot had to ask me his grandson's name. Surely he must remember his own Grandson's name. I reckon Prof. Oak, might have dementia, I'd recommend a old folk's home for him.

My own mother, doesn't care that I'm leaving home. "All boys leave home some day, it said on the TV". Yeah well if someone said Gordon Brown was a good Prime Minister, on the TV would you believe it? No!

Next, I began to explore Pallet Town, and I was informed that you can store Pokemon on the computer. To be honest, that sounds like torture, how do you get the Pokemon into the computer. Do you put them on the CD drive and then somehow force into the computer, thus slowly suffocating your Pokemon? Anyhow, better get on with actually playing the Game!

I decide to walk into the grass, just North of Pallet Town, when a strange old man, comes running towards. I hope it isn't Josef Fritzl, maybe he plans to abduct me? Oh don't worry, its a senile friend Professor Oak. He then leads me back to his lab, and he offers me a Pokemon. I take a Charmander and Gary recieves a Squirtle. I wonder where Professor Oak, got these Pokemon. Could there be a Pokemon Black Market?

I then battle Gary and he runs off. I then proceed leave the Lab, ignoring Professor Oak's Aids. (Anyone who watches South Park will get this reference.)

I then stop by Mum's house, and she uses her magical voodo powers, to heal my Charmader.

Route 1 is uneventful, and as I step into the Pokemon Mart, I get a free Parcel for Professor Oak. I wonder what could be in there? I hope its Medication, because Old Oak (what I will refer to Oak as, from now on) really needs it.

I hurry back to Old Oak's Lab, and he gives me an Pokedex, which he calls a electronic encyclopedia. I bet he's never touched it because he doesn't knows what elecktrick means.

I caught myself a Pidgey (nicknamed AERO).

Update:
-Battled through the SS Anne.
-Beat my rival without a sweat...total joke...
-Got the Cut HM and taught it to Charmander (who I had do go all the way back to cerulean to get)
-Got into Surge's gym. OHKO'd his Raichu with dig.
-Got to rock tunnel...i hate that place...
-Finally got through...I couldn't get flash I don't have enough pokemon caught (5, count 'em!)
-went into the Pokemon tower in lavender town and took on my Rival. OHKO'd Fearow with rock throw, and killed shellder with a crit mega punch and a tackle. OHKO'd Vulpix with rock throw, and took out Sandshrew with a mega punch. Gritty learned earthquake, so I tried it out on Eevee! OHKO!
-Fought over to Celedon, leaving some trainers for training Aerodactyl and Omastar.
-Got to Celedon and decided to take on the gym!
-This was a really hard battle(s)...Erika sent out Tangela, and I used Mega punch. Tangela used mega drain and killed me...yeah...I was kinda counting on using earthquake since Gloom and Weepinbell are part poison but i forgot about Tangela...
-Angry at my loss, took on Erika again without any grinding in between! Smart, aren't I? well, it worked out, surprisingly. Used Mega punch and got a crit, which left tangela in the yellow-just-before-red zone. It used vine whip and I survived with 49 HP! another mega punch finished it off. Next up was Weepinbell. Earthquake OHKO. Same for Gloom. I win!

Saved game, I don't feel like doing the rocket hidout right now...i hate the "acceleration" tiles that make you go 1/2 speed and I usually end up messing up somewhere along the line and having to do it all over again :(

Team

Gritty Lv. 39
-Tackle
-Mega Punch
-Rock Throw
-Earthquake

Also would it be considered cheating if I used a glitch to skip sliph co. temporarily (skip the ghost at the top of the Pokemon Tower), so I can get Omanyte and Aerodactyl earlier? I hate running around with Golem being all overleveled and stuff...

  • Found a guy who speaks French in Veilstone. I actually understood most of it. Hooray for being in French 3!
  • Teamed up with Dawn and her Clefairy. Dante beasts the world. Looker is also back. He's pretty boss. I also love some of the internet jokes that this game throws in, like the Galactic member who says, "Cosmic power for the win!" and the artist who says, "My Pokemon is fight!" Although I'm half expecting some kid to say, "So, I heard you like Mudkips."
  • Finally got Defog. Hooray for doing things out of order. This shows how little I know about D/P/Pt. I'm not sequence breaking on purpose.
  • Met the game director. I've always loved this part of the game, like in Kanto where you met the entire staff. I think it's hilarious. "Hey! I drew you!"
  • W-w-wait. Some trainers challenge you inside a Pokemon Center? That's a new one.
  • Destroyed Rival Ezlo. Rafiki is doing a bit better now. And Agro is getting close to evolution. Yes! Hahaha. For whatever reason, I thought Ezlo's last words were hilarious. "Like, I want my own theme song!"
  • Fudge Crasher Wake and his Floatzel for outspeeding my team. Props to Dante who swept the majority of the gym with Thunder Fang. Congrats to Rafiki, who has my new found respect after taking out his damn Floatzel with one Close Combat. Also, congrats to Agro who finally evolved!

Whoops, just deleted my post...I really have to stop doing that...
It doesn't really matter, it was really short anyways.
-Beat the rocket hideout. Jessie and James were a total pushover, 3 earthquakes killed them.
-Giovanni died to 3 earthquakes as well.
-Took the sliph scope up to the top of the Pokemon Tower and battled Jessie and James again. No way, they evolved their pokemon! its too bad they still suck. 3 earthquakes again...
-Saved Mr. Fuji and got the Pokeflute
-Rushed down Cycling road to Fuscia, got Surf and Strength.
-Beat Koga. His little bug friends didn't stand a chance against rock slide.
-flew to vermillion and got Squirtle, then taught it surf and got to Cinnibar.
-Revived my fossils!! Currently grinding them against trainers I skipped along the way.
So yeah, I ended up not doing the glitch...better safe then restarting, eh?

Team

Gritty Lv. 43
-Strength
-Mega Punch
-Rock Slide
-Earthquake
Total gamebreaker. I have yet to see something survive an Earthquake.

Communite Lv. 33
-Water Gun
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Toxic
His little stache made me think of communists for some reason...Anyways, great addition to the team. It has excellent coverage and Toxic for other water types, mainly because I don't really have anything else to stand up to them at this point.

Toruk Lv. 32
-Razor Wind
-Wing Attack
-Fly
-Double Team
I dumped a bunch of TM's on this guy that would be useless for the rest of my team. Wing attack however can still kill most things because of his great attack stat. He helps take down Grass types (would have been great against Erika's Tangela...)
And yes, I did see Avatar.

Also would it be considered cheating if I used a glitch to skip sliph co. temporarily (skip the ghost at the top of the Pokemon Tower), so I can get Omanyte and Aerodactyl earlier? I hate running around with Golem being all overleveled and stuff...
I think that would be considered cheating. But you can easily go to Fuschia now and get a Rhyhorn, or catch an Onix in Rock Tunnel.

EDIT: Never mind.

Anyway, good luck with the challange and all. Word of the wise: Spearow is better than Pidgey in all but possibly Gen4, because Fly is weaker than Drill Peck, and Fearow hits harder (then there's the whole "You get him 16 levels earlier thing")
Thanks very much, for the advice, Pidgey has been kicked off my team.

Firstly, I have a question. I'd like to have Charizard on my final team, but according to the Rules, I can't use a Pokemon which isn't a Flying type on my team. Obviously, Charmander, and Charizard are both Fire type Pokemon, which means I can't use them on my team, but how am I gonna train Charmander without using it on my team?

Again, sorry if this doesn't make you laugh.

= Part Two: Pedo's Delight and Mr Smart A** =

I capture a new Pokemon, Spearow, and put Pidgey in the PC. I hope that Pidgey isn't being tortured to badly.

Anyway, I begin to head through Viridian Forest, and meet lots of young boys. Lucky for them, I'm not a pedofile, but be warned the children in the Viridian Forest, watch out for strange men with nets.

I leave the Viridian Forest and then reach Pewter City, where I quickly train up my Spearow, and go to challenge the Gym. But unfortunately, I have to fight that stupid Junior Trainer. You know the one, who makes that smart a**ed comment about: How I'm light years for facing Brock" and then he tells you how that light year's is measured in distance. Could Nintendo come up with a stupider thing for a Jnr. Trainer to say. Say that, the Jnr. Trainer was 8, how would he have known about light years?

Anyway, now that I have beaten Mr Smart A**. I will battle Brock next time.
