Since a trainer acquires his/her licence at ten years of age, does that make the Youngsters (boys in shorts) in the games illegal?
Edit: Other younger than protagonist classes are Schoolboy/girl, Tuber and Twins.

Seems strange to me, so I'd like a few thoughts and stuff on this, at least for the sake of provking discussion on a message board.

Same with schoolboys and schoolgirls, lol. Why are they battling? I do notice there aren't many of them, but still. (All of them are around Rustboro for obvious reason, don't remember where they are in DP)

I always thought that a trainer was someone who trained Pokemon for use in gym battles or contests. Doesn't that mean that anyone under the age of ten can still own a Pokemon, but they can't use it to battle gyms or compete in contests?

You need to be ten to be a Pokémon Trainer, meaning taking on the Elite Four and Gyms and stuff.

Doesn't mean you have to be ten to be allowed to own a Pokémon and battle with it.
Everything ends,
and that's always sad.
But everything begins again, too,
and that's always happy.

The 'younger' trainers have never looked to be less than ten to me...
And the "ten year old" trainers look in their mid-teens...
Japanese either age fast, or have no sense of how kids look when they age...

Oh right, I see now.

All Twins look about six to me.
