It has recently occurred to me that the Contests in regular Pokemon games are bland and pointless compared to how they are in the anime series.

So I was thinking, wouldn't it be a good idea if Nintendo made a Pokemon spin-off game, based solely on Pokemon co-ordinators?

For example: Start off with your starter Pokemon, and assemble a party whilst taking part in contests across the Pokemon regions. Once getting to a city with a Contest Hall (example, Hearthome City in Sinnoh), the co-ordinator can train their Pokemon in appeals, and learn to link moves.

During the contests, the touch screen on the DS could be utilised to choose moves and determine how the moves are used; a certain move-combo used correctly would get higher points. The battles round could be formatted in the same way as a normal Pokemon battle.

I was just wondering, what were people's thoughts on this? Particularly as some people find the contests more appealing than battling.

Well I'm more of a battler myself, but if a contest game came out I'd totally buy it or at least snatch the ROM. I agree that the current game contest format is bland. I'd like to be able to mix and match move combinations (and maybe choose my own freakin' contest outfit). That's what makes anime contests fun.

I completely hate the way they do the contests in the games. The way they're presented makes them super boring, so I don't participate in them. If they ever did come out with a game based around contests, I'd more than likely try it out, so long as the contests were improved and made more interesting. There are games focused on Rangers, so I don't see why they wouldn't be able to do the same with Coordinators. (You could argue that contests are in regular games, but those are more focused around being a Trainer than a Coordinator.)

It would be awesome if there were more options and choices, like the ability to combine moves mentioned already, and maybe being able to collect different items so you can mix and match or even design your own outfits.

I think the idea of creating your own costumes, and collecting items would be a brilliant idea.
And maybe, what with the idea of certain pokemon being transferrable from Ranger to D/P/Pt, maybe, after doing really well in contests, you get rewarded with unique pokemon that are transferrable.

Maybe there could be a function to 'learn' other Pokemon's appeal techniques, so that the move combination could be adapted to suit your Pokemon.

Meh, Contests in the other games are SO useless.

EDIT: Two words: Grand. Festival.
THAT would be awesome, in any game.

Designing your own outfit? Count me in. I never really liked the game's approach to contests.
