These look really nice for a beginner (or so as you claim ;))
If you're going to post your sprites, please zoom all the way out, so we can see the overall look to your sprites, not just pixel for pixel.
The colors you chose look really nice, nothing that hurts the eyes too much. Good work, keep it up!

great poses, coloration, anatomy, concepts and outlining and shading! if you're gonna display them zoomed in, maybe display the zoomed out one beside it... idk...

anyhow, this one is really good, there are some minor problems though. your light source is mixed up. it's shining from the top left onto the hat, but then from the upper middle right side onto the shirt, and then from the lower middle left side onto the pants. it's a bit goofy looking... you probably want to make all the light source come from the top left corner, like how you have the hat. because of the shading, it also messed up where you put your colored outlining. you should definitely consider redoing the shading and outlining on this one. I give Jason a SEVEN out of TEN stars!
2:Gym Leader 02 - Terrence - Rock
Terrance is much better with his shading and outlining! my only real complaint is the odd white streak through his beard. I give him a NINE out of TEN stars.
3:Gym Leader 03 - Brenda - Water
Again, you have multiple light sources here. You have the whole body's shading very well done, except for (her) left leg. the light part should be on ovalated towards the left, not the right. also, the bottom of her skirt needs outlining where it meets her legs., and the same can be said for where her shirt meets her right arm. I give this one a SEVEN out of TEN stars.
4:Gym Leader 04 - Jill - Ground
Yeah, i cannot complain on this one! it's great! the only slight issue is the brown outlining on her elbo, and the kink in (her) left arm where some outlining went AWALD... I give Jill a NINE out of TEN!
5:Gym Leader 05 - Ozwalt - Light
Ozzy is missing a piece of outlining in (his) right arm on the top, right after the sleeve. there are also some outlining voids in (his) right pant leg. you have conflicting light sources here. the yellow outline should be on our left, and the black to our right. the light source should be coming from the upper left, but you have it flipped. flip it and this could be better. I give Ozzy a SEVEN out of TEN
6:Gym Leader 06 - Helena - Grass
same problems as before. multiple light sources. missing outlining in the arms and legs. no outlining where sleeve and pants meets skin. and there is that weird, distracting grey and white line on (her) left leg. you definitely need to work on Helena, i give her a SIX out of TEN.
7:Gym Leader 07 - Timothy - Dark
Ooh! this one is very good! i have no complaining except that the cape is a bit dark... nevertheless, i give this one a TEN out of TEN stars!!!
8:Gym Leader 08 - Ned - Fire
Weird pose. the eyes are to close together. missing outlining on the blazer's (our) right side. you do have the light sources down this time, but your outlining is still off. i give him a SEVEN out of TEN stars!

This one is very good. the only real complaint here is the light spot on (his) left leg and arm should really be on the right. nevertheless, i give it a NINE out of TEN!

You did an excellent job, and with some refinement, you can become an amazing spriter. You need to keep at it, don't get discouraged, and take crit as it comes, but don't take it hard. I wish you the best of luck, and can't wait to see more!

Keep Spriting!

Like they've said, I know things look nicer when they are zoomed up, but you've go to make sure they are good when they are at correct size.

Besides a few nit-picks, I think they are nice! I'd just aim to make some more poses to make them look less like they were taken from existing trainers. :3
