I'm having problems with my PS2. See, whenever I put in a game for the Playstation 1, it says "disc read error" and the same for DVDs. It is very old because I've had it for six years but it's just lately that it's been giving me errors for ALL my PS1 games and it now has a hard time just playing PS2 games. It takes it at least three or four...or more resets just to play a game for the PS2.

I don't know if its just old age and dust but...I really hate to have to get a used one at Gamestop. We can't really afford replacing it or even getting a PS3 until we move to our new house in April.

That's why I need ideas on what I can do for my PS2 for the time being so I don't have to worry about reseting it each time and spending all day just to get it to play the games. D:

Any ideas?

Well, My PS2 is older so I should know how to fix this.... I'm not sure about the PS1 game problems, but try taking a slightly wet clean cloth and try taking the interior dust out. Is it a ffat PS2, because if it is, it could possibly be a problem with the fan in the back. If it is, lean that fan. It cools down the whole console and is likley the source of some of those problems. Happy to help! xD
he did it, not me.

It's the this one: http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=36743

Wait, yeah it is the fat one. I used some dust remover stuff to try and clean up the fan but...it didn't seem to help...

I tried using some dust remover stuff to remove the dust but I don't think it did much good. I've always tried to clean it with windex and a cloth but it's harder to get inside there. In order for me to really get all the dust, I'd have to take the whole thing apart...but I don't think I can do that.

Also, I want to make note...some games it will play. Like for the PS2. It has a hard time playing Tales of Legendia, Final Fantasy X-2, Kingdom Hearts 2 (Though, that one IS pretty badly scratched...), and Kingdom Hearts (first one).

It usually just stalls with those games alone. It played Final Fantasy X fine though...

kimi, this belongs in other games o3o
moves~
Oh...well I thought where it was...it was technology...meh. ;o; Sorry, I got confused. D:

Anyway, I thought maybe there were other ways to maybe check and see if it's something that might be caused, by something other than the dust...maybe just...old age? D:

But it works, however, correct? Hmm, I guess it could be just old age... Ill be back with info. xD

I can't get one until I move. That's why I want options as to clean up or have other ways of getting it to work WITHOUT buying another one.

I had the same problem with my fat ps2 about a year back.
I had my uncle take the case off - turns out there was dust obscuring the lazer.
He cleaned the dust off..

It's been working fine since. I dunno if you wanna take your ps2 apart, but it certainly is an option.
