I don't really know, I just don't feel comfortable using the term 'black'. You see, I've got friends at school who get in trouble at our school for calling others 'black', so it's become a habit to use different terms when referring to, well, black people.

And yes, I agree with the last statement. It was ridiculous and should've been dealt with, and harshly.

And there it is, the dormant, institutional racism that we all commit deep down because it is drilled into us by the school system, scared to look racist themselves. By labeling White as white and blacks as "darker skinned" it's already breaking down any bridge of equality, and don't get me wrong, I do not see you as a racist, or think you have done anything wrong, it's just the way we're taught to treat things in school. I try to avoid labeling by colour on a whole myself.

It's all down to political correctness, which is possibly the most racist system around, the saddest thing is, those who follow it (the governments, not the people) don't even realise.

Whilst school plays a major roll in what most people see someone as, there are other things in ones life. I've got extremely pale friends as well, who get the term "albino" thrown around to them a lot, when they aren't even albino. It's sickening to see what some people do to put others down. On another note, one might have had experiences in their life, forcing them to call someone by something else. It's like meeting a red haired kid, they get the term "ginger" or "orangutan" a lot.

And no, I'm definitely not a racist. I despise people who think they have the right to say the stuff they do to someone else for having lankier eyes, different skin, different coloured hair, their sexual attractions or whatever it may be.

I'm surprised that type of crap is still going around with Obama being elected for president and all. I mean, me and my friends have joked around and said that he should turn the "white house" into the "black house" or something.

Whilst all your points are valid, it doesn't detain from the fact that the majority still subconsciously separate people by colour, it's a sign that as a race we probably can't change for the better, even if we want to.

Political correctness is at it's peak here in Britain, our prime Minister brought in a law called "the positive discrimination act" where if you were a white british male and you applied for the same job that somebody of a sexual or ethnic minority applied for as well, they would get the job, by law.

Britain had finally started to turn a leaf in the 90s, we'd said no to the BNP and we'd stopped stereotyping so much, however thanks to 10 years of labour party, we are probably a more racist nation than ever before.

The point I am trying to get across, is deep down, there will always be something racist about every person, weather they can see it or not. After all, we are only human.

Well, at my school, my friend (who is of course black) gets their school fees paid for them by the government. So technically. the government pays for him and his brother to go to school due to being black.

And whilst that last sentence is true at one stage, we are human, which also means we should be able to keep our emotions to ourselves sometimes, but some people fail to do just that, and then everything goes wrong. A lot of darker people take things that aren't meant to be racist in a racist manner.. it's kind of degrading.

I say it's good to have small jokes about differences- nothing extreme, but as long as you're prepared for them to joke about you as well.

Racism is horrible. So is sexism, and all the others were people are treated differently, just because of what coulor their skin is, or what sexuality they are. For example, at my school people just throw around the word 'gay' without a second thought. it's horrible. On a less grimn note, this kind of forum remidns me of the film 'Hairspray'

I say: Everyone has their own opinion. And, as much as people hate to admit it, everyone's a little bit racist sometimes. It's not like everyone on earth loves every single race there is.

Just as long as no one commits hate crimes (white guy killed black guy because he hates blacks or Mexican killed an Asian because he hates Asians), then there shouldn't be any problem.

Eh...I'm really sensitive about criticism in general, so when I hear a racist comment, it really throws me off. I know I need to get a tougher spine over things like that, but if someone says something racist, I usually don't forget it.

Racism if you ask me is the same as homophobia; ignorant people afraid of what they aren't used to making their way in the world even though they're 'different'. It's not something that's taught, it's something that's 'suggested'...but that doesn't mean you should believe it. That person may have never known a black or gay person in their life; who are they to judge or stereotype? You can't pull the 'they don't know any better' card. That's only for the retarded and infants. No one should tell you what to think of the world; go out and experience it and make your own opinions.

The way you just used the term retard, it disgusts me. It's such a cruel and derogetory word about the handicapped. how is it ok to use that foul word but bad to use racist ones? They're on the same level. As someone with a coordination disability I find that really offensive. Especially since you're trying to degrade the ignorant, oh the irony.

Well, apparently, they do. =(

Is your friend okay about this?
If your family has a problem with your friend because he's black, then tell them to grow up.
I told my family's a bunch of bigots, he knows I'm cool though. lol
And yeah, I don't do that anymore. Anytime we argue, I get the cops called one me. XD

Agreed. Use retard for someone who choses to be stupid (like someone who makes stupid decisions) rather than someone who has a mental disability THAT THEY CANNOT CONTROL.

Ah, whatever. Sure, Black Rasicm still exists, very strongly too. But it's starting to shift more to them being "better" than whites. When is it that it will finally click into people's heads that we're the same in more respects than we're different?...

I think people just need something to make them feel better about themselves so they make fun of others differences. Racists have never bothered me because no one can make me feel beneath them.

I think you missed the point of my post, as Chibi was more than likely not referring to disabled people and almost definitely not trying to offend anyone with a disability, it's the fact she used a derogatory word in a derogatory manner that annoyed me. The word shouldn't be used. At all. Same with Racial and Sexist terms.

Well I understood your post, I was posting an opinion. =P

Oh well.
Did you? Oh.

Still, using the word Retard is as bad as the Negro or haggot. All 3 are really, really not suitable for a forum like this, or society in general.

Unless you're Spanish, because negro does generally mean the colour black in Spanish.

I just think it's a bunch of nonsense

I'm pretty discriminated in school all because I'm asian

Sometimes, I get the feeling the people don't care about your physical and mental properties, but all they pay attention to is the fact that you're not in their same race

For that reason alone, is why I don't like rednecks :P

I really don't like blacks. Why? Rap, Ebonics, a severe drug problem, and the general bad behavior of most of them.

Don't tell me "oh there's good ones like Tiger Woods and Barack Obama!"

I know there is, but the MANY ruined it for the FEW. And there are some that I respect, but very few. And yes, I will judge them by the clothes they wear. If they're wearing super baggy jeans with a bandanna in their pocket, a shirt three sizes too big, Nike Dunks, and a Fifty-nine Fifty hat, I'll just assume they're running with the wrong crowd.

Oh, and I don't like the Filipinos in Hawaii. They've saturated the work force. They're like the Mexicans of Hawaii. Chances are, whatever job you're in (unless it's a really good job) you will have several Filipino co-workers, and probably even a Filipino supervisor. I know I do. Two of them actually. I can't understand a word they say. Oh and when I hear them on the bus on their cell phones, the will be talking as loud as they can, and that annoys the crap outta me.

I don't like generalizations. To assume means to make an ass out of you and me. Which is what you're doing about black culture. (Ass-U-Me for those who don't get it). You really think blacks in other countries act like American black people? Truth is, America has problems. And a lot of our culture is messed up. So that means black people as a whole are messed up?
Let's take a look at white people. We committed Genocide.
Twice.
Some of us fought against it the second time, but nobody gave a damn the first time.
So idiots who think they're gangsters > Genocide

Most do not, actually. Get your facts straight before you talk out of your ass.

Don't tell me "oh there's good ones like Tiger Woods and Barack Obama!"

There are more than just that. And Barack Obama is... well, meh. But the general population is neutral.

Looks like you've got it the other way around. A FEW ruined it for MANY. Guess what? I live in Michigan. We have a very large black population, and most wear the SAME GODDAMMED clothes as I do. And those who decide to wear the stereotypical clothes I do not criticize until they actually do something WRONG.

And there are blacks just as racist as rednecked whites, believe me. I have been told many times that "yo mother wouldn't want you to be near us blacks", which is EXTREMELY racist as they are not only seperating me from them but also riduculing my mother. However, these are a select few, as with any other race in the area.

Oh, and I don't like the Filipinos in Hawaii. They've saturated the work force. They're like the Mexicans of Hawaii. Well, it is true that foreigners tend to clog up the work force (which is why I do not support illegal immigration) but honestly, grow up. Not everything's gonna be perfect for your sorry little ass in life. Besides, by being around these poeple, can't you learn? Sometimes I even pick up their way of speaking if I'm around them long enough.
That's your opinion, and this is mine.

And I'm done.

EDIT: Just noticed this:

Well, it's not actually an offensive term. Your school is just strict, I guess.

Um. No. I'm not assuming, it's a judgment based on past personal experience. And I'm not talking about blacks in other countries, I'm talking about blacks in America (sorry, I should have made that clear). And I didn't say blacks were messed up as a whole, but as a majority.

Don't say white people committed genocide. The Nazi Germans did. And the other event I can't think of, so people enlighten me?

You know who Red people are? No? There's a reason for that.
Europeans came to America and wiped out Red people. :3
Not our greatest moment in History, aye?
And um, Hitler was white. His view was for white supremacy. I'd think you'd be supporting this view.
