SwiftSwim - READ REVIEW before posting
Roleplay (Getting Nova Started):
Nova was a tad late, he'd received the phonecall from Oak explaining about the dark Pokemon theft and immediatley headed to the lab. He and Houndour were running down the path. As he entered the doorway, he recognised Kaleb who was standing next to Oak discussing the missing pokemon, he was the guy who hated fire pokemon. He was around when Nova first received Houndour! He returned houndour to his pokeball and nodded over at kaleb.
He was about to approach Oak when one of the kids who had just received a pokemon ran straight into him and fell over!
"HEY!" the kid shouted at him and fell over. "What's your problem!?" The kid pulled out a pokeball and angrily sent out a pokemon ready to battle Nova!

(Nova, you can battle him or walk away, let's see what you're made of! It's a kid with a random starter from the list. Choose one.)
(Oak also has something for you Nova! End your post with oak handing you a parcel...)

Activity:

Nova already owns Houndour,
He received from Oaks Lab a month back!
Nova is currently in Oaks Lab, after a Pokemon trainer meeting was called.
Oak has something for you, go collect it!

Accepted - One condition: READ THE RULES before your first post!
Your sign up is fine except for one thing, read the rules. And I'm very excited to see someone take Houndour!

You received Houndour
Whats this?: Oh dear! Houndour is rather Naughty. He gets a little carried away playing with things rather than following instructions, sometimes. But when it comes down to a serious situation he is dependable. He is just a puppy, afterall ^^

MIJAANS RP:

Mijaan with Eevee in his arms, and pokeballs attatched to his belt, opened the door to the lab and quickly ran outside. Breathing in the outside air as he was running made him feel happy and Eevee seemed to squeal with excitement. He was running for quite a while down the path looking in the grass and trees for pokemon to find and catch. Ultimately though, was heading home to show his parents the pokemon he had been given, but before long he saw a pokemon running towards the Laboratory. A black doglike pokemon he had never seen before. Could this be the Mightyena pokemon that Oak once wanted him to find? If he could catch this, surely he'd earn some respect from the other rookie trainers! He flipped open his Pokedex and pointed it in the direction of the running pokemon.

Houndour
Houndour hunt as a coordinated pack. They communicate with each other using a
variety of cries to corner their prey. This Pokemon's remarkable teamwork is unparalleled.

After glancing back up at Houndour, Mijaan saw a pokemon trainer running along side it.
"Darn! It's not wild... Agh.." He fell back and landed on his backside, as eevee pushed its legs against his chest whilst jumping out of his hands. Turning and cocking its head at Mijaan, Eevee seemed disappointed.
"What?" Mij looked at Eevee "Well, What? We're not gonna win any tournaments by ourselves are we? And that pokemon seemed strong!" Eevee bowed its head and slowly walked up to Mij, jumping onto his knee and smiling... and eventually yawning.
"Tired already?" Mij questioned as eevee curled up on his leg. "BUT WE ONLY JUST LEFT THE LAB!"
Mij stood up and Eevee slipped off his knee and landed on its back, still asleep. He took Eevee's pokeball of his belt and pointed it towards him. A beam of red light shot from the pokeball and Eevee was returned.
"He's asleep..." he thought to himself "What happens if I run into a wild pokemon now?"

OOC: I'd have made my post longer but I dont have time tonight! - Later gang!

Shelby quickly grabbed a pokeball on the desk. Then she opened it and the Pokémon inside came out in a burst of light. Shelby looked down at the little Pokémon. Cyndaquil was cautiously peering all about it, nervously inspecting things. Professor Oak was standing there with a small frown on his face. Shelby picked her backpack up and swung it over her shoulder abruptly, causing the Cyndaquil to give a startled cry and the flames on its back to pop to life. Professor Oak chuckled in a slightly nervous way and rubbed the back of his head.

“Yes…well…” he began. “This little guy is quite…shy. It will be a while before he fully trusts you.”

Shelby looked back down at the little Pokémon. It had calmed down and now it was sort of trying to find a place to hide. I wonder if we’ll ever be partners, she thought as she gazed down at him. Professor Oak clapped his hands, startling Cyndaquil again and almost making Shelby jump. Professor Oak decided to pretend that they hadn't just done that, and went on with what he was saying.

“I almost forgot!” He moved to some stuff on his desk and picked something up. It was a red high-tech object. He turned and handed it to her. “This is a Pokedex. I would like you to record all of the Pokémon you meet and capture on it.”

Shelby took the Pokedex from Professor Oak and then turned to go. An assistant was standing in front of her. He was holding five pokeballs in his hands. “You can have these to get you started,” he said. Then he rummaged in his pocket. “And a potion, just incase your Pokémon gets too badly injured.” He pushed the items into her hand. She set the pokeballs on the hooks along the strap of her bag. Cyndaquil was looking up at her curiously. She glanced down at it for a second, vaguely wondering if they would ever be able to win in a battle, before looking back up to Professor Oak.

“Thanks a lot,” she said earnestly. Then she turned to Cyndaquil and held up the special pokeball with a flame on it. “C’mon Cyndaquil, we need to go now.” Cyndaquil looked up at her. They had a small staring match for a while. The assistant blinked. “Cyndaquil, return!” she held up the pokeball and watched the red beam of light shoot out. Cyndaquil gave a yelp and ran away. Oh no, she thought dismally. Other people were looking at her curiously. Well…this probably looks really bad, she finally got Cyndaquil in the red beam, and it got tucked safely back in his pokeball.

Shelby jogged out the door. She couldn’t wait to see what new adventures would unfold in Kanto. A poster caught her eye. She skimmed it quickly. It had something to do with gym leaders in the region. Shelby quickly decided that she wanted to take the challenge and collect all of the badges. Then (as it said on the poster) she could battle in the Indigo Plateau. With a confident look on her face, she began the trek to Viridian.

Shelby strolled along the road, observing her surroundings but keeping a sharp eye out for new Pokémon to catch. It was a bright and sunny day. There was several flying type Pokémon flying over her head. She could also tell that other types of Pokémon were moving around, but she was unsure of where to begin. I heard Rattata was easy for new trainers to catch, she mused. Shelby neared a rock, and saw something on the ground. It looked almost like a bird. Shelby quickly pulled out her Pokedex and read the information. It said that it was a Pidgey; something that was easy for younger trainers to catch. Alright, now’s the time to test my trainer skills, she thought. She pressed the button on Cyndaquil’s pokeball. He came out in a burst of light.

“Cynda!” the little Pokémon said. It sounded a little more confident than it looked. The Pidgey was now looking over at them, but in a curious way.

“Alright Cyndaquil, use…” she paused and took a glance at her Pokedex. “Headbutt!” Cyndaquil looked at the Pidgey and then ran at it. The Pidgey flapped its wings and Cyndaquil stopped mid-run. Shelby blinked a few times. “C’mon,” she muttered. The small Cyndaquil looked slightly frightened. “You can do it! Go get that Pidgey!” she urged Cyndaquil on. The Pidgey, obviously beginning to get annoyed, flew in a dive for a tackle attack at Cyndaquil. “Dodge it!”

Cyndaquil didn’t hear her over the large gust of wind, and instead got hit directly by the Pidgey’s beak. Cyndaquil let out a small cry, and then looked at the Pidgey angrily. The flames on its back ignited. Shelby was a bit surprised by Cyndaquil's sudden found power, but she figured it was a good thing. Now’s my chance to capture that Pidgey, Shelby thought, taking advantage of Cyndaquil’s anger. “Use Ember!”

Cyndaquil let a burst of flame erupt from its mouth. The Pidgey wasn’t really paying attention, and got burned on the edge of its wing. “Nice job, Cyndaquil! Finish it off with Headbutt!” This time Cyndaquil charged right into battle. It attacked the Pidgey head on, knocking it cold. Shelby threw an empty pokeball at it. When it started to wiggle, she crossed her fingers.

The pokeball shakes back and forth on the ground...

Scarecrow113
Spoiler:
And stops still with pidgey inside!
Congratulations! You caught pidgey!

Catching a pokemon so soon is a sure fire sign of skill... You and cyndaquil did well!! Or was it just darn luck that pidgey wasnt paying attention?

Whats this?: Oh? That's not so bad. It would seem pidgey is quite Careless! It's behaviour would indicate that it can sometimes drift off into a world of its own.
This pidgey, however, seems much older than the pidgey's you've seen at Oaks lab. Perhaps it's more experienced?

Nice post, check the first post of this thread for your pokemons moves! :)
Also; your cyndaquils personality has change slightly.

"Houndour, how long is it gonna take until you wake up the first time I ask? Now we're almost late for the trainer meeting!", Nova complained to his pokemon, whom was running at his side. Houndour cackled a liitle at this. 'Just a little further then we are there!' , he assured himself. As Nova entered the doorway, he noticed a kid talking to Oak, 'Hm, he looks familiar...oh right, he was there when I got Houndour...'.
"Houndour, take a break.", Nova said and pulled a pokeball out and withdrew the dog.
"Hey, Prof---", Nova was interrupted by a kid who ran into him. Nova smirked as the kid fell to the ground.

"HEY! What's your problem!? I'll take you out for that!", the kid yelled. He threw out a pokeball, and out popped a Bulbasaur. "Bulba...", his pokemon looked more prepared to take a nap then anything else. "Fine kid, your asking for it. I'll have you on your way in 5 minutes, by my guess.", Nova stated flatly as he threw out Houndour's pokeball. "HOUNDOUR!", the pokemon roared, it enjoyed tormenting brats like this just as much as Nova did, it seemed. The kid was slightly unnerved by the greeting, and looked like he was having difficulties thinking of what to command Bulbasaur to do. 'Is this kid for real? You don't get into battles without knowing what your pokemon can do!', Nova thought. Houndour grinned evilly at the Bulbasaur, and looked back at Nova as if asking permission to play. Nova nodded, then ordered a tackle.

Houndour smashed into Bulbasaur, and then held its' paw on top of the bulb, pinning the grass type to the ground. By this point the kid was panicking, and in desperation called a time out. "Hey, there's no time outs in pokemon battles!", the brat was starting to annoy him."...Houndour get off the Bulbasaur, we're through here." ,Nova said boredly. Houndour reluctantly removed its' paw from Bulbasaur, although quickly smacked it once it got up. Houndour and Nova both broke into a fit of laughter at this. "Hey what are you doing! This is a battle, CHICKEN!", the kid taunted.
"Actually, this is more like boxing with a tree, meaning NOT FUN AT ALL!", Nova yelled at the kid, who was now on his nerves. The brat quieted down and recalled his Bulbasaur, who had fallen asleep, and walked off with a scowl.

Professor Oak walked up to Nova and said, "Well, Nova, it seems that you have been getting along well with that Houndour!...Not so much with that young man, though. Ah well, I have something for you, if you'll follow me please?". Nova nodded and withdrew Houndour again. He followed Oak over to a table and watched as Oak opened a drawer and withdrew a parcel. "Here you go, Nova" ,Oak said, handing him the parcel.

The shaking finally stopped. Shelby looked at the pokeball with pride. I just caught my first Pokémon, was her excited thought. Though some part of her mind wondered if it had just been pure luck that the Pidgey had been a little careless at the end, she was still proud of her capture. She walked over and picked the pokeball up. It shrank and she hooked it back to her bag. Then she pulled out her Pokedex to check the moves. Tackle, Sand Attack, Gust, and Quick Attack, she mused over the moves silently. They seemed like a good set up. But I wonder what level it is…? She thought. A happy cry from her Cyndaquil diverted her attention away from the freshly caught Pidgey.

“Cynda! Cynda!”

Shelby blinked at the happy little Pokémon. Even though it had seemed frightened of her at first, now she realized it was beginning to like her more after the battle. Maybe my Cyndaquil just needs to battle some more to grow, she thought. The ideal Pokémon she was thinking about for her team was maybe to catch a Pikachu in Viridian Forest. She had gotten the data on it in the lab when the other kid was getting it, and it seemed like a cool Pokémon.

If I come across some other Pokémon, maybe I could have Cyndaquil battle them to become stronger, Shelby thought. Shelby looked back down at Cyndaquil as a new thought popped into her head. I wonder if Cyndaquil has grown any from this battle…it sure seems like it already, she thought, already proud of her new Pokémon. She plopped down onto the ground and held out a hand to the small Pokémon. It looked at her curiously, probably wondering what she was doing. “Well, Cyndaquil,” she began, “how about you and I work as hard as we can and beat these gym leaders!”

Cyndaquil nodded, but still looked a little afraid. Shelby smiled softly at it. “Return,” she held out its pokeball. This time, Cyndaquil simply went into the pokeball. Shelby could already tell they were making progress. She stood up, brushed the dirt off the back of her pants and began to walk down the road. Further down the road, she saw someone standing in the road. She looked curiously, wondering if it was a trainer. As she neared, she saw that it was a trainer. He looked right at her and held up a pokeball.

“Let’s battle!”

Shelby froze in her tracks, unsure of what to do…

You take the package from Professor Oak... Nervously.
"Now, Nova." Oak closed his eyes. "You know our dark type pokemon have been stolen. Well, it would seem there is a group of pokemon theives on the loose! They're taking dark pokemon everywhere.. and.." Oak opened is eyes and looked down on Houndour. "I fear Houndour may be the target of one of these thefts! We have no idea what the theives are doing to steal the pokemon..."
Oak turned away and turned on a tv screen which showed different clips of people who had their dark type pokemon stolen. Random people were claming different things.
"There were so many of them!" A man on the tv said "Pokeballs raining from the sky! My pokemon was just taken!"
"They had this machine and-" Oak began flicking the channels. It was all over the news!
"My pokemon just.. floated up into the air, it was-" "..and they were just everywhere, all dressed in black!"
Oak turned off the tv.
"I am concerned that these theives are using the dark pokemon for their own bidding. You and I both know that dark pokemon are tough to beat. But I have given you something that can help... Take a look!"
I hope this will help... Oak thought.

You open the bag to find..
Spoiler:
A pokeball inside!

Congratulations! You were given Machop!

This pokemons fighting type attacks should make short work of any Dark Type pokemon that come your way!

Whats this?: Awesome! Machop is experienced in battles and quite strong. He's a gift from Oak so look after him well!

Character Name: Vivian
Gender: Female
Experience: Better
Age: 18
Starter Pokemon: Turtwig
Pokemon Nickname: N/A
Personality: Vivian is one of those trainers you absolutely love to be around! She is funny, athletic, and usually slightly awkward. She is gentle towards her Pokemon, or any other Pokemon and will even care for wild Pokemon and let them do what they wish after they're healed - either join her or continue living as a wild Pokemon. Unlike many trainers who punish their Pokemon for doing bad in matches, Vivian soothes them. She tells them, "You did your best." and "Next time we'll do better. Both of us. I was just at fault as you were." Vivian believes that a bond between a Pokemon and trainer should never be broken.
Appearance: Vivian has long black hair that he usually holds up in a ponytail, but she also has bright red highlights that show off that she loves fire types. She usually wears blacks, reds, and whites because that was her favorite Pokemon's colors. Vivian also wears lots of bracelets and necklaces as well as a chain on her pants. Her eyes give the look of deception, but she actually is very kind. She smiles a lot and it looks sadistic, but it really itsn't. She blames that on her genetics.
Vivian usually almost always wears tank tops and short sweatshirts. She usually is seen wearing a black tank top with a red sweatshirt. She likes those colors because she has a thing for fire Pokemon.
History: Vivian doesn't have much of a history - only that she grew up in Pallet Town with her parents and their Pokemon. She always wished to become a trainer but had to put her studies before everything else which crushed her dream for a while. Now, she is as hopeful as ever, wishing to do what she wanted to do when she was ten. Occasionally, Vivian's parents allowed her to watch trainers at a nearby Pokemon Academy, but that just got Vivian more into the dream of becoming a trainer. She believes no one can stop her from achieving her dream - including her parents and what they say.

Spoiler:

It wasn’t long until I set Heracross down near a group of rocks and sat down. I grabbed my backpack and zipped up open, taking out my sleeping bag and a potion. Looking over to Heracross who was unhappy about his cut, Jess smiled. I was happy that Heracross was my Pokemon – I was happy we were partners – I was happy that we couldn’t be separated.

“Heracross, come here,” I said holding up the potion. He looked up at me quickly, and then got to his feet only to sit down in front of me. I set the potion on the ground and took one of his injured claws. A bruise was visible on his pinkish armor.

“Herrrr,” Heracross whispered as I sprayed the potion on the bruise. He grimaced as well.

I looked at Heracross. “Does it hurt?” I asked. Heracross nodded. I looked down. “Good, that means it is working.”

After cleaning Heracross’s cut, I set up my sleeping bag. Heracross had gone off to find some firewood as I took some rocks and formed a circle. I was making a pit so the fire wouldn’t spread. I also pulled out the grass around the rocks so the fire wouldn’t get outside the pit.

Heracross arrived a bit later and piled the wood into the pit with his sharpened claws. On his claws was a sappy liquid. I raised an eyebrow as he licked it and purred. “Is that tree sap?” I laughed. Heracross stopped and looked at me innocently. He put his claw forward, offering me some sap. I just shook my head, laughing. Heracross sat down next me and continued to lick the sap off his claws.

“Hey you!” a voice shouted. I turned my head to see a trainer running up to my campsite, waving his hand above his head. A blackish dog-like Pokemon ran alongside of him. My Pokedex rang in my pocket.

“Houndour, the Dark Pokemon. It is smart enough to hunt in packs. It uses a variety of cries to communicate with others.”

He stopped at the campsite out of breath. His hair was a russet color and he wore a baggy T-shirt and jeans. “You don’t mind if we settle here?” he asked, smiling.

I just shrugged and shook my head.

“Thanks,” he said, sitting down on a large, smooth rock. He looked at the unlit fire pit. “You need help with that fire?”

I looked at him and nodded. “Yeah,” I said.

The trainer looked at his Pokemon. “Houndour, use Ember.” He said. The black Pokemon sucked in air, and then spat a bright red flame into the pit. The fire spread and danced like Butterfrees in the air.

“Thanks,” I said.

“Don’t mention it.” The boy said smiling. “I’m Kem and this is my Houndour.”

“I’m Jess,” I said, then pointed to Heracross. “That’s my Heracross.”

Kem tilted his head to the side. “Aren’t Heracrosses blue?” he asked.

I nodded. “They usually are, but this Heracross is a Shiny Pokemon.”

Kem blinked. “A Shiny Pokemon? Wow, I never saw one before!” he said in awe.

I turned to Heracross. He was still licking his claws and he didn’t seem to have noticed Kem and his Pokemon. “Heracross, this is Kem and his Houndour,” I said. Heracross looked at me, then at the two others. He quickly got to his feet flexed his chest out to make himself look tough. He dropped his claws to his sides, sap dripping from them. How much sap did he take?

Kem laughed at my side. “That’s a funny Heracross!” he commented. Houndour just barked what seemed to be a good reply.

“Thanks,” I said.

“Hera,” Heracross said happily. It was probably a ‘thank you.’

“Hey, would you like to battle?” Kem asked with a tilt of his head.

“Uh,” I began. What should I say? “Sure?”

“Excellent!” Kem said, jumping to his feet. “It’ll be a great battle! Come on!”

Heracross and I followed as Kem walked away from the campsite. It was a grassy area, no Pokemon or trees around to block our way.

Then, he turned around and took a Pokeball from his belt. Throwing it, he yelled, “Icepick, come out!” A white light exploded from the ball and it formed a Pokemon. When the light cleared, a blue Pokemon in a shell appeared.

My Pokedex rang in my pocket.

“Squirtle, the Tiny Turtle Pokemon. It shelters itself in its shell, and then strikes back with spouts of water at every opportunity.” The Pokedex stated.

“Okay, Heracross, go!” I shouted, raising a finger.

“Cro!” Heracross shouted lunging into the battleground. He stretched out his claws and flexed them to make himself look menacing.

“Icepick, use Water Gun!” Kem commanded. The Squirtle sucked in air that spat out a large funnel of water.

“Dodge it!” I commanded. Heracross launched himself up into the air, dodging the water.

“Again!” Kem commanded. The Squirtle looked at Heracross, and then shot another funnel of water.

“Cro?!” Heracross shouted as the water shot toward him. I gasped as the water hit Heracross and sent him flying past me. He landed with a loud “Thud!” in the grass.

“Herrrrr,” he said painfully. I just watched as Heracross achingly got to his feet. “Her,” he said, crossing his claws and running up in front of me to face the Squirtle.

“Icepick, use Water Gun again!” Kem shouted. The Squirtle once again shot a funnel of water and Heracross ran forward at it.

“Heracross, what are you doing?” I shouted. Once the water came close, Heracross stopped and crossed his arms to form a shield. The water crashed into his claws, and then he swiped it away in a quick motion.

“Hera!” Heracross shouted.

“Alright!” I shouted happily. “Use Tackle!”

Heracross ran forward at the Squirtle.

“Bubble!” Kem commanded. The Squirtle sucked in, and then spat out large bubbles at Heracross. Heracross smacked them away with quick motions of his hands and hit Squirtle down to the ground with one of his claws.

“Sqiur!” the Squirtle shouted painfully as its chin hit the dirt ground.

Did Heracross know Fury Attack?

The Pokedex beeped in my pocket. “Heracross, Pokemon #214 has moves Tackle, Fury Attack, Horn Attack, Endure. The move Leer has been forgotten.” Cool!

“Quick, pick it up with a Horn Attack!” I commanded. Heracross lowered its horn under Squirtle’s stomach and picked it up off the ground.

“Tle?!” Squirtle shouted freaked.

“Throw it!” I shouted.

“Hherrrrraaaaaaaaa,” Heracross began. “Crroooossssssssss!” he shouted as he threw the Squirtle right at its trainer.

“Wha?!” Kem shouted as his Squirtle hit him in the chest. He flew back and landed on his back. His Squirtle lay fainted on his chest.

“Hera!” Heracross shouted triumphantly, raising his claws up to the sky.

Kem recalled his Squirtle, the Pokemon vanishing into the ball with a reddish light. Kem got to his feet. “Your Heracross is strong.” Kem commented. “But not strong enough for Houndour! Go!” Kem’s Houndour ran out onto the battlefield, growling, ready for battle.

“Get ready, Heracross,” I warned.

“Hera,” my Pokemon said, nodding.

“Houndour, use Ember!” Kem commanded. His Houndour spat out a red flame at Heracross.

“Quickly, dodge it!” I shouted. Heracross jumped to the right just as the fire got to him. That fire was quick!

“Another Ember!” Ken shouted. Houndour spat another Ember at Heracross.

“Dodge!” I shouted, but Heracross was not strong enough; he was hit in the chest by the bright red flame.

“Heraaa!” Heracross shouted painfully as he tumbled backwards and onto his stomach. He was cringing in pain.

“Heracross!” I shouted, my voice cracked.

“Finish it off with Ember!” Kem shouted. His Houndour once again spat a bright red flame at Heracross.

“No!” I shouted. But what the ember hit was only ground. Where had Heracross gone?

“Heraaaaa!” Looking up, I noticed Heracross flying in the air, his bug wings flapping. Then, he dived down at Houndour. Once he got near, he started to swipe Houndour with his claws.

“Hou!” Houndour howled in pain as he was knocked backwards by five swipes of Heracross’s claws.

“Houndour, get up!” Kem shouted.

Houndour was struggling to get to his feet as I shouted out Heracross’s next command, “Tackle!” I said.

Heracross ran forward at Houndour and once more knocked him back. But Houndour wasn’t done yet. He slowly got to his feet and growled at Heracross.

“Ember!” Kem shouted. Houndour once more spat a red flame at Heracross and it was moving fast!

It was then I remembered Heracross’s other move. “Endure!” I shouted. Heracross used his claws as a shield once more and the fire hit him… and it did damage. However, Heracross remained standing.

“How can it still stand?!” Kem shouted, astounded.

“Because he used Endure!” I told him. “Finish this battle with Fury Attack, Heracross!”

“Hera!” Heracross shouted as he lunged at Houndour.

“Ember!” Kem shouted, but before Houndour could spat yet another flame, Heracross slashed Houndour five times with his claws. The force had knocked him back. This time, Houndour did not get up.

“Houndour..?” Kem whimpered, shocked. Then a few moments later, he sighed. He took out another Pokeball and raised it. Houndour turned into a bright red light and was sucked into the ball. Kem dropped his hand to his side. “I guess you won.” He said.

I smiled and laughed. “Wow! I guess we did!” I shouted happily. I raced up to Heracross, picking him up and hugging him. “We won, we won, we won!”

“Hera,” Heracross agreed happily.

I stopped twirling as Kem walked up to me. “You’re a good trainer, Jess,” he commented.

I nodded. “Thanks, you too.”

“I would really love to see that Heracross in action again,” Kem said. “How about another battle when we see each other again?”

I nodded. “Alright,” I said.

“It’s a deal then,” Ken said a smile on his face. “I’ll see you again.” Then, Kem ran in the opposite direction, disappearing into the grassy haze.

I looked down at Heracross who was panting and seemed to be really hurt. “You were great, Heracross.” I said. I quickly grabbed his Pokeball from my belt and enlarged it. I raised it up to him. “Take a rest, buddy.” With that, Heracross turned into a red light and was sucked into his ball.

Getting to my feet, I collected my bag and put out the fire at the campsite, and then I walked to where I saw Kem disappear. I saw the hazy outline of a building and raced toward it. It must be a Pokemon Center and I was glad we were near one.

Our destinies were intertwined from the beginning, Heracross’s and mine. It was hard to think about it, but I knew it was true. Did my grandfather know before that his granddaughter would become one of the best trainers in the Lenore Region? Who knew…

“C’mon, battle me!” he said again.

“I…fine!” Shelby said, a new confidence spurring in herself.

“Heh…good,” a smirk appeared on his face.

Shelby grabbed the pokeball for her new Pidgey, getting it ready to go. She wanted to try it out, and she knew this would be a good opportunity. Oh no, I should’ve found the level out earlier, she thought worriedly. As he shouted something and threw his pokeball, all thoughts of that were gone from her mind. She chucked hers as well. Both Pokémon came out in flashes of light.

“Odd!”

She looked at the new Pokémon curiously. Wonder what that is, Shelby quickly pulled out her Pokedex, reading the information on the Oddish quickly. Good, my Pidgey’s gust attack should have no problem with this, she thought. When she looked at the field a second later, Pidgey was pecking at the ground. Shelby blanched, you’ve gotta be kidding me! The boy started laughing. Shelby’s eyes narrowed.

“Pidgey, quick attack!”

Even though it had been sort of careless, now it was in battle mode. Pidgey flew at the Oddish, and the trainer, too busy laughing, didn’t notice until it was too late.

“Oddish!” the boy shouted. He looked up and glared at Shelby. “Fine, Oddish use Absorb!”

Oddish did as it was told; only sapping Pidgey’s energy a little because Pidgey had the type advantage. Pidgey flapped its wings angrily.

“Gust attack!”

Pidgey whipped up a small tornado. It slammed into Oddish, sending it flying. The Oddish hit a tree and slid down. The leaves on the top of its head were wilted, showing that it had been defeated. Shelby grinned, she was very proud of her Pidgey’s first win. The boy looked at Shelby then back at Oddish. With a small huff he returned his Pokémon then went for the next one. There was another flash of light, and a fish looking Pokémon sprang out of the ball. Shelby did another data check and found that this Pokémon was called Goldeen. It was a water type, but as long as Pidgey finished it she knew that everything would be alright.

“Pidgey, quick attack!”

Pidgey flew in for the attack, but Goldeen flopped up to meet it. Shelby looked at the fight, surprised. The trainer hadn’t said a word, yet the Goldeen countered Pidgey’s attack perfectly. They met in a clash, Goldeen’s horn getting Pidgey right on its body. No! Shelby thought. Pidgey cooed and landed on the ground. The boy smirked triumphantly. If only it hadn’t gotten its strength sapped by Oddish, Shelby thought with her teeth ground together.

“There’s no way your puny Pokémon can take on my Goldeen,” he scoffed. “I’ve trained it since it was a baby and now I know it's much stronger than any Pokemon you have,” he said. Shelby could tell he was really proud of his Pokémon’s power, but so far she was too. She returned her exhausted Pidgey and grabbed Cyndaquil’s pokeball. “There’s a fire emblem on it,” the boy said. “You know…you’re not going to be able to win that way.”

“I don’t care, ‘cuz I’m going to try!” With those words, she sent out her Cyndaquil. It came out, the flame on its back already lit. She grinned proudly, we have gotten closer. Hopefully because of that we’ll be able to take on this Goldeen…but…I just hope it doesn’t know too many water type moves.

“Goldeen use water sport!”

“Cyndaquil hurry up and headbutt that Goldeen!” Shelby commanded. The water came down, but she knew it was just to weaken his power. As long as it didn’t damage her Cyndaquil too much, she hoped they could win with a few headbutts. Goldeen got hit by the headbutt, but it only skimmed it lightly. Darn it! Shelby thought. Cyndaquil sprang back away from the Goldeen, ready to go again.

“Goldeen hit it with peck and finish it off!” the boy called. His Goldeen sprang into action, flopping up in the air and aiming directly for Cyndaquil.

“Quick Cyndaquil, use your ember attack!” Shelby shouted. She knew it wouldn’t do a lot of damage, but she hoped that it would stop the Goldeen from hitting Cyndaquil with all of its power. Luckily it did, but Goldeen escaped with barely a mark on it. We need to make these attacks count, she thought. Her fist clenched and she pointed at Goldeen. “Now use—”

“Dive in the water!” the boy said, interrupting her. The Goldeen splashed into the small pond nearby. Shelby ran over and so did the boy. She looked around, trying to spot the Goldeen. Shelby knew Cyndaquil couldn’t go in the water, so she just had to wait for the Goldeen to show itself. The boy looked up at her. His mouth twitched and he called, “Go Goldeen, attack with peck!”

The Goldeen sprang out of the water, bringing a small wave with it. Shelby knew that it wasn’t really an attack, but it was strategic and if it hit Cyndaquil… “Cyndaquil hurry and use smokescreen to hide!” Shelby shouted. A cloud of smoke shot out of Cyndaquil’s mouth, hiding it from Goldeen’s peck attack. Though Shelby couldn’t see her Pokémon, somehow she knew it was in the right position. “Cyndaquil use headbutt!”

There was a thud. A splash came from the water. Shelby thought she had heard the other trainer call something out, and she could only hope that it was just Goldeen that had gone into the water and not her Cyndaquil. If it was…she feared the answer. The smokescreen began to clear, but she couldn’t see Cyndaquil or Goldeen anywhere. Oh no, she thought, looking around wildly.

“Cynda!” the cry came from a bush. Cyndaquil came trotting out on all fours. It looked beaten up, but it was still standing. Shelby then looked around for the Goldeen. She looked at the water and saw it floating, looking very dazed. The boy groaned and slumped. He returned his Goldeen and glanced up at Shelby. She looked at Cyndaquil and then scooped it up. She hugged the little Pokémon, which caused it to say, “Cynda!” The flames on its back ignited again.

“Ow!” Shelby yelped, letting go of it. Cyndaquil looked as if it were laughing at her.

“Nice battle,” the boy said, almost grudgingly.

“Well…I’m really surprised I won,” Shelby admitted, rubbing the back of her head. “I mean Cyndaquil looks pretty tired over here…” She thought of something and grabbed it out of her backpack. It was the potion one of the assistants had handed her. She sprayed it on Cyndaquil, and suddenly he looked brand new. “Alright,” she said softly. She looked ahead. She could already see the outline of buildings not too far away. “Viridian City here I come,” she said softly.

The boy smiled a little and stuck out his hand. “I’m Kid Trainer James,” he replied. Shelby shook his hand,

“I’m Shelby.”

“Well…see you around and nice battling with you,” he smiled a bit more and then jogged off in the direction of Pallet.

“Return—”

“PIKACHU!”

Shelby looked over. A Pikachu was standing on the rock, cheeks sparkling with electricity. Its little arms were in small fists, and it was almost glaring at her and Cyndaquil. Shelby gulped. I want a Pikachu, but this one seems a little…difficult? She thought, searching for the proper word. It looked like it was just itching for a fight and would do anything to get it. Suddenly a bolt of electricity flew towards her and Cyndaquil.

“Cynda!” Cyndaquil called out, clearly startled by the Pikachu’s abrupt attack. It knew that it was time to battle again, so the flames on its back lit up. Shelby hoped that Cyndaquil could hold out this last battle and then they could move to Viridian as soon as possible. Plus, there were thunderclouds beginning to appear in the area. Though if they were from Pikachu or not, Shelby couldn’t tell.

“Cyndaquil hurry and use ember!” Shelby decided using ember would be the safest bet. It seemed to be really dangerous to get too close to something that could shock you. Plus, Pikachu seemed to be a little wired at the time.

The fire burst from Cyndaquil’s mouth, shooting directly at the wild Pikachu. Pikachu countered with a thundershock attack. They met in a bang, sending debris and dust flying into the air. When it cleared, Pikachu looked only slightly weakened but Cyndaquil was already panting. It’s too tired…I need to wrap this up, Shelby thought. Taking a chance, she had Cyndaquil use headbutt. As it got closer to the Pikachu, the Pikachu began to get sparks from its cheeks.

“Hurry and use ember while it’s unsuspecting!” Shelby called to Cyndaquil. Fire shot out of its mouth again. To top it all of, the headbutt hit head on. Pikachu let out a cry and hit a rock. It began to get back up, but it looked considerably weaker than before. Shelby let out a tired huff. Cyndaquil was panting harder; Shelby knew its stamina was almost out.

“P…pika, pi,” Pikachu said. It hopped into the air and then shot a jolt of electricity down on Cyndaquil.

“No! Cyndaquil dodge it!” Shelby shouted.

Luckily Cyndaquil escaped in the nick of time. The lightning hit it, but the effect wasn’t at bad. Cyndaquil got paralyzed though, and Shelby knew that now was her chance. She told Cyndaquil to use one final ember attack and then she planned to throw the pokeball. She knew this was it, all or nothing.

The ember hit, and she realized that Pikachu got a burn. It fell because the burn was right on its knee. She chucked the Pokeball at the wild Pikachu, watching it begin to shake. She had to admit it shook a little more violently than with Pidgey, but she hoped that all her battling and hard work paid off…

As I walked away from Oak’s Lab with Turtwig at my side, I couldn’t help but wonder about these mysterious Dark trainers. Why were they stealing just Dark Pokemon and not other Pokemon like grass, fire, water, and even ghost? I could only think that there was another reason – that Dark Pokemon had a purpose to them and… it wasn’t good. I could only help but wish that there wasn’t something bad in store for all of us.

“Tur?” Looking down at my Turtwig, I noticed he was looking up at me with a calmed expression. I smiled back at him. My Turtwig was a great Pokemon – always calm and collected – nothing could be better than having a grass Pokemon that could soon easily defeat even its fire weakness. I also hoped I would come across a strong fire type Pokemon because that was my favorite type.

I bent down and scooped Turtwig up in my hands. He didn’t reject. I walked with Turtwig in my hands as I continued down the road from Pallet Town to the nearby route. Turtwig and I trained there for a while and I was beginning to think that Turtwig wasn’t going to evolve – I mean, well, we’ve trained there for a month and he still didn’t evolve. Was I missing something in his training? No, that couldn’t be it.

Continuing onto the grass, I noticed a trainer nearby, cheering about something. I let Turtwig down on the ground because I knew I wouldn’t be able to run with him in my arms.

Running up to the trainer I spoke, “Hey kid, what’s wrong?” I asked.

The trainer turned to me with a smile on his face. “Nothing’s wrong!” he said. “Everything’s perfect! I just caught my first Pokemon!”

I crossed my arms against my chest and smiled. “Well, that’s great!”

The trainer pulled his arm forward, pulled into a fist. “Hey, how ‘bout you and I battle?” he said.

I was taken aback and slightly leaned back. “Uh…”

“Oh, come on!” the boy said. “I really want to test out my new Pokemon!”

I sighed and looked down at Turtwig. “You up for a battle, buddy?”

Turtwig nodded. “Twig,” it said.

I looked up to the boy. “Yeah sure, let’s battle!” I said.

“Great!” the boy said, running just a few steps back. He retrieved a Pokeball from his belt and threw it up in the air. “Go, Monty!” The Pokeball opened and a flash of white light exploded from it, landing on the ground. When the light cleared, a purple and tan Pokemon stood on the ground. It was a Rattata.

I looked down at Turtwig. “Go Turtwig!” My Pokemon nodded and quickly ran out to the field.

“Monty, use Tackle!” the trainer said. The Rattata ran forward at Turtwig.

“Dodge it!” Turtwig quickly jumped to the side as the Rattata sped by. The tiny Pokemon was taken aback by Turtwig’s sudden movement. I had trained him well. “Bullet Seed!”

Turtwig opened his mouth and several large seeds shot at the Rattata, knocking it across the field with each hit.

“Ratta!” it shouted painfully.

“Monty!” the boy yelled. The Rattata laid on the ground, eyes closed and its breath rasping. “Monty…” he said as he raised its Pokeball and a pink light engulfed it. He placed the Pokeball back on his belt and took off another one. “You might have defeated Monty, but you can’t take down Alcatraz!” The trainer once again threw a Pokeball in the air, but it wasn’t what I expected! As the light cleared, a Pidgeotto was flapping its wings steadily in the air.

“Use Wing Attack, Alcatraz!” the boy shouted. The Pidgeotto shot down at Turtwig with a lightning fast speed.

“Quick Turtwig, dodge!” But it was too late. The Pidgeotto slashed Turtwig with its wings and made Turtwig come tumbling back.

“Turrrrrr,” my Pokemon said achingly.

I knelt down. “You okay, Turtwig?” I asked. Turtwig stumbled to his feet and nodded.

Walking away from his hands and back to the battlefield, you threw back his head and whipped it forward, sending leaves shooting at the Pidgeotto.

My mouth was open with shock. Turtwig never knew Razor Leaf! That must mean…

I watched as the Pidgeotto dodged the leaves, and then flew down at Turtwig. As it neared, head lowered, Turtwig ran forward at it.

“Turtwig, wha-?” I just watched as Turtwig jumped forward, hitting his rock hard head against the Pidgeotto’s.

“Cho!” the Pidgeotto shouted painfully as it flew backwards, shaking its head achingly. Turtwig too walked backward, but didn’t seem to be too affected. Then, his shape started to glow. I just stared in shock as he grew larger and wider. My heart was pumping and the boy watched too as my Turtwig evolved into Grotle.

As the evolution light disappeared, a large Grotle stood in Turtwig’s placed. It had a determined look on its face and it nodded for me to make a new command.

Shaking my head to get rid of the shock, I pointed my finger at the Pidgeotto. “Use Razor Leaf then Bullet Seed, Tur- I mean Grotle!” I staggered.

Grotle held his head back, and then threw it forward, several sharp leaves flying straight for the Pidgeotto. The Pidgeotto dodged the leaves quickly, but as it turned back, Grotle shot several seeds up at it.

“Pi?!” it shouted, shocked. As it was struck, it fell to the ground.

“Quick – before it gets up, use Tackle!” Even though Grotle was a bit clumsy, it got to Pidgeotto quickly. Before the bird could lift off, Grotle slammed into it, making if stumble back. It was done.

“Alcatraz!” the trainer shouted, recalling the Pidgeotto back into its Pokeball. Looking at me, he sighed then smiled. “You’re a great trainer.” He told me before running off.

Grotle turned to me with a grin on his face. I smiled too. As he loped up to me, I bent down and threw my arms around my new Pokemon. “I love you, Grotle!” I told him.

---

After an hour or so of walking, Grotle and I made it to Viridian City. It was beautiful and was course seemed peaceful enough. We quickly got into the Pokemon Center as rain started to pour down. We quickly shook off the excess rain that soaked us and went up to the counter. I recalled Grotle to his Pokeball.

“Can you heal my Pokemon?” I asked Nurse Joy.

“Of course!” she said taking Grotle’s Pokeball and placing it on a tray as well as handing it to a Chansey by her side.

Before she could speak, I interrupted. “I’ll pick him up tomorrow.” Nurse Joy just nodded.

I quietly went to an open couch and pulled a blanket from my bag and laid it on my body before drifting off to sleep…

Watching all the incidents involving the Dark types on the tv, Nova couldn't help but cast a glance at his Houndours' pokeball. 'It would be horrible if Houndour was taken from me...' ,Nova was lost in thought. He snapped back into reality as Oak started to talk again, "I am concerned that these theives are using the dark pokemon for their own bidding. You and I both know that dark pokemon are tough to beat. But I have given you something that can help... Take a look!"
Nova checked the parcel and inside was...a pokeball? Nova cast a questioning glance at the professor, then called out the pokemon within the ball. "Machop. Machop!" ,a small muscular pokemon had appeared in front of Nova. "Hm? A Machop? This will be really helpful, thanks Professor!", Nova said, thrilled.

"Hey, it's gonna be fun having you along, Machop!", Nova informed the Machop, kneeling. Machop smiled and gave a thumbs up, then Nova nodded and recalled him to his pokeball. Nova stood up and thanked Oak and walked out of the lab with a wave. 'Hm...a thunderstorm can't be good, I should hurry to a pokemon center...', Nova thought, spotting gathering clouds. Pulling out his pokedex, Nova scanned his new Machop, observing his moves and the like, 'Better familiarize myself with Machop, now rather then later...', Nova thought. A little while later, and Nova spotted the lit up pokemon center sign. Walking in, Nova was greeted with an interesting sight. Instead of the usual Nurse Joy behind the counter were 2 Chansey bickering away.
"Uhh, hello? Can I get a room for the night?" ,Nova asked hesitantly, but the Chansey were too caught up in the argument to notice.

"Welcome, how may I help you?", a voice came from behind. Turning around, Nova was greeted with a smiling Nurse Joy. "Ah, yes, well I was hoping to get a room for the night...", he said. "Ah, right away!", She walked behind the counter and grabbed a key. Handing it to him, she pointed him to his room. Thanking her, Nova walked to his room, and soon fell fast asleep.

For a few minutes there Shelby had thought that Pikachu was going to split the ball in half! When it calmed down though, she felt better. Pikachu did seem a little aggressive, but she hoped that with time she could change that. Shelby turned to her exhausted Cyndaquil and returned him back to his pokeball. You did amazing today, she thought happily. She was glad that she had already caught two Pokémon, but decided it would be a nice idea to take a good long rest at the Pokémon Center.

After about another hour or so of travelling she arrived in Viridian City. The sun was setting and the lights were just beginning to turn on in the city. Shelby looked around, trying to find a Pokémon Center. People were heading home. She noticed that occasionally there were Pokémon with those people. Wow…this is a really nice city, she observed.

Finally she stopped in front of a Pokémon Center. It had a red roof and it looked so warm and inviting. Shelby practically drifted in, happy when she hit the soft warmth of the room. She was really tired from all of that travelling and battling. She also knew her Pokémon were tired as well. So before she got herself settled in, she walked up to the main counter where Nurse Joy was.

“Hi, would you like me to heal your Pokémon this evening?” Nurse Joy asked politely.

“Yes, please,” Shelby said, yawning slightly. She unhooked the three pokeballs containing her new Pokémon and set them in the small tray. Nurse Joy handed the tray to a pink Pokémon in a nurses’ outfit. The Pokémon happily walked into the back room.

“Your Pokémon will be ready in a while. If you want you can go to sleep and we’ll hand them over to you tomorrow,” she said sweetly.

“Thanks, I really appreciate it,” Shelby said. She turned away from the counter and walked to the couches. Shelby plopped down on one and grabbed one of the spare blankets. Before she slept, she did get the data on the nurse-like Pokemon. It was called Chansey. Chansey...huh...her eyes began to drift shut, and she fell into a peaceful slumber.

Lewis walked towards his house as fast as he could, still holding Columbus’ Pokéball. He was still in awe about receiving a Pokémon, as it had been so long since he had caught one (even though he didn’t catch Columbus, Lew still had that excitable feel about him. Lew then broke out into a jog, trying to get home as fast as possible. Suddenly, Lewis heard his new ringtone blasting out from his jeans’ pocket. It was Mum.

“Uh, Hello?” He answered, wondering why she was calling. He was only out for 10 minutes, after all.

“Hi, Lewis! Look, I know you want to say goodbye to us, but we’re going to have to go to the doctor’s. I forgot to tell you, but your sister Nina has an appointment about that injured leg...” She trailed off, feeling really guilty.

“It’s OK, I guess. Did you get my bagpack ready?”

“Yeah, it’s near the front door. Remember to lock it afterwards, though. There’s been a robbery already today, and I don’t want to take any risks.”

“Will do, Mum. Love you.”

“Love you. Bye!”

Lewis hung up on his mother. So this was it. He felt disappointed about not seeing his Raticate again, but he could meet up with them another time. He put his phone back in his pocket, and walked towards his house. He would be there soon.

Lew was now outside his house. He reached for a key from under the doormat, and opened his door. His green bagpack was lying there, packed for his journey. Lewis picked up the bag, and put it on, tightening it.

“Bye, house.” He said, trying to be comical. Only no-one was around, so he was just humouring himself. He closed the door, and locked it, returning it back to its place after checking that no-one was watching him. No risks, his mother said.

Lewis walked into Route 1, on the road to Viridian City. He would spend some time battling Pokémon and trainers, before going to the Pokémon centre to rest. Straight away, Lewis could see many different Pokémon in the grass. There were a lot of Pidgey and Caterpie there, and also the odd Rattata. Lewis smiled, admiring the Route, before moving onwards. He had to catch a Pokémon here - but which one? Lewis decided to carry on before trying to capture one of them. He would have to find a really strong one...

He suddenly saw the perfect opportunity. He had never seen this Pokémon before – was it a new one? Lewis reached into his bagpack, and got out his Pokédex. He would have to gain help from Dexter on this one.

“Sentret, the Scout Pokémon. Sentret is a very cautious Pokémon, and it raises itself up using its tail to get a better view of its surroundings.” So this was a Sentret. He would have to try and catch this. The Sentret was unaware that Lew was watching it.

“Columbus, come on out!” Lewis yelled, accidently alerting the Sentret. Damn, I’ve got to be a lot quieter... he thought. Both Pokémon were ready for battle.

“Columbus, use Peck!” Lewis commanded. Columbus obeyed this instantly, taking to the air. It reached a certain height, before plummeting down at Sentret. It tried to dodge, but no avail. It was thrown back by the peck, and was weakened by it. Columbus landed next to Lew, looking smug yet cheerful.

“Well done, Columbus. It’s time to catch you, Sentret!” Lewis shouted, reaching for a Pokéball. Lewis wasn’t used to this, and took a while to find one. He threw it at the weakened Sentret, feeling optimistic. However, the Sentret dodged it! Lewis expected the Pokéball to hit the floor, but it didn’t! There was a wild Metapod standing right behind it! The ball hit the stationary Pokémon, and emitted a red light, capturing the Metapod inside.

“No!!! Don’t capture it, Pokéball! Come back!” Lewis said, as he did not want a lousy Metapod. The ball wiggled. Would Lewis capture the Metapod?

The ball came to a halt, and Lewis palmed his face simultaneously. He had just unwillingly caught a Pokémon. Now what? He asked himself. He couldn’t release the Metapod, as Lew didn’t agree with doing that. He would have to stick with Metapod, and besides, it would evolve soon. Maybe the Butterfree would be good.
Lewis walked over to the Pokéball and picked it up unenthusiastically. He looked at the Pokéball, before returning it to his belt.

“Columbus, return! You did a great job.” Lew said, returning Columbus to its Pokéball. He put this next to Metapod’s Pokéball, and walked on. Lew checked his watch – 4 pm. That left plenty of time to catch new Pokémon. Soon enough, he spotted another trainer.

“Hey, you! Wanna battle?!” He shouted. The unknown trainer turned around, and looked at Lew. She smiled, before reaching for her Pokéballs.

“I’m Quinn. And yeah, I’ll battle you.” She said, coolly, with a hand on her hip.

“It’s a two on two, then. And I’m Lewis.” Lew returned, also reaching for his Pokéballs. “Go, Metapod!” He cried. Metapod would need some experience, and was probably less tired than Columbus...

“A Metapod? Well in that case, I choose Caterpie!” Quinn said. She must have been a new trainer like Lew, going on her Pokémon choice. He then got out his Pokédex, and scanned Caterpie into it.

“Caterpie, the Worm Pokémon. Caterpie is covered with a green skin. When it grows, it sheds the skin, covers itself with silk, and becomes a cocoon.”

Metapod is the evolved form of Caterpie, so Metapod might intimidate it, thought Lew. However, as soon as Caterpie came out, Metapod reacted instantly. It jumped into Lew’s hands, terrified. “Pod...” It said, tearfully. This is not my day... Lew thought.

“Come on, Metapod! I know you’re a girl, but there’s no need to be scared. I won’t let you get seriously hurt...”

“Hey! Girls are tough too! And I’ll show you by beating you!” Quinn replied hastily.

Metapod vs. Caterpie

“Are you read?” Quinn asked.

“Hell yeah.”

Lewis was the first to make a move, “Use tackle, Metapod.” He said. However, Metapod just sat there, confused. Quinn started to laugh.

“Metapod only knows Harden, silly! Caterpie, use tackle!” Caterpie, unlike Metapod, obeyed its command, heading towards Metapod. The move connected, and Metapod was thrown back towards Lewis. However, the battle was not over yet. Metapod went back to its original place, shaking from anxiety. Lewis felt like an idiot for commanding his Metapod for using tackle. He was still a bit rusty in battle, even though he had more experience than Quinn. She must have been 10 or 11 years old, and he was losing to her. This couldn’t happen.

“Caterpie! Tackle again! But stronger this time!” One more hit and Metapod would be out of the battle.

“Metapod, use Harden!” shouted Lew. He felt quite desperate while commanding his Metapod, and hoped that his Pokémon wouldn’t notice it. The Metapod glowed in a greenish-white colour for a second, before going back to her normal appearance – a plain, green chrysalis. The Harden move just used would make Metapod stiffen all the muscles in her body. As soon as the Caterpie connected, it was Caterpie that was flung back this time. Even though Metapod used a Harden attack, she still flinched as the Caterpie hit the move.

“Excellent, Metapod! Now use it again!” Once again, the Metapod glowed, increasing her defence even more. Lewis was very proud of Metapod – she was holding her own here – but for how long?

“Tackle, Caterpie!” Quinn shouted. The Caterpie went in for another hit, and it had the same effect as the first attempt, only this time it took more out of the Caterpie. Metapod was standing her ground, although still feeling a bit scared. Caterpie was weak, and another hit like that would cause it to faint. However, Quinn was smarter than that.

“Use String Shot, Caterpie!” As Quinn said this, Caterpie shot a white string from its mouth, soon engulfing Metapod in it. Lew’s smile faded as Caterpie moved in for another tackle. “That’s excellent, Caterpie! Make this attack count!”

“Metapod! Dodge!” Metapod’s speed had decreased, meaning the Harden would have less of an effect. She was a sitting duck, and was unable to move. The Caterpie’s tackle connected with Metapod, and she was rebounded into Lew’s feet. The string had come off, and Metapod was out of the match. “Unlucky, Metapod. You really gave Caterpie a hard time.” Quinn was celebrating with her Caterpie, as if she had won the battle. Lewis saw this, and got slightly irritated. “Hey, it’s not over yet. Time for my strongest Pokémon! Columbus, come on out!” Columbus came out of his Pokéball, and stood on the ground watching Caterpie. This didn’t faze Caterpie or Quinn, even though Pidgey’s type would be an advantage for Lewis.

Pidgey vs. Caterpie

This time, Quinn took the first move. “Use tackle, Caterpie!” Her Caterpie once again headed for a tackle.

“Sand Attack, Pidgey!” Lewis yelled, after a brief moment of thought. This’ll blind Caterpie...he thought, feeling optimistic. Caterpie looked certain to hit the tackle, but Pidgey used Sand Attack at just the right moment, and flew behind Caterpie. Caterpie now had no idea where Pidgey was. “Now Quick Attack!” Lewis commanded, feeling excited.

“Caterpie, he’s behind you!” yelled Quinn. However, this warning didn’t help, as Caterpie was thrown into a tree. It hit the ground, and was almost certainly out of it. However, Caterpie came crawling back! Even its own trainer, Quinn, was a bit shocked. However, Caterpie could not hold out for much longer. It fell to the ground, and it was out of the match. Lewis breathed a sigh of relief, and Quinn recalled her Caterpie.

“Great Quick Attack, Columbus!”

“Unlucky, Caterpie.” She reached for another ball, and the white flash revealed a Sentret. “This is one I just caught.” The Sentret looked exactly like the one that Lewis had just tried to catch. It was probably the same one...

Pidgey vs. Sentret

“You were beating it last time, Columbus! Now go for a Peck like before!” Lew shouted, pointing at the Sentret. Columbus flew at Sentret, with his beak glowing white.

“Dodge!” Sentret did this, using its tail to bounce up and dodge the attack. Columbus simply flew back, like a boomerang.

“Peck, once more! If not, then keep trying!” Lew commanded. This will tire that Sentret out soon... Lewis almost hoped.

“Keep dodging!” Quinn returned. After a minute or so, Columbus had still not hit Sentret with Peck. In fact, Sentret was enjoying itself, smiling as it bounced to the side or up in the air. It wasn’t feeling tired at all. Columbus, however, was feeling quite tired. Lew started to get frustrated as Sentret dodged hit after hit. Both trainers were looking very closely at what was happening.

“Sand Attack! And then Tackle!” Columbus flew to the ground, and swiftly flung some sand at Sentret, slightly blinding it for a few seconds. Columbus hit the tackle, sending the Sentret flying. It couldn’t dodge this time. Lewis smiled - though the attack wouldn’t make Sentret faint, it was a start to the aimless attempts that came moments earlier. Quinn checked to see if Sentret was OK, before making it go for an attack for the first time in the battle.

“Use Scratch!” She shouted. Sentret jumped towards Columbus, who was now on the ground, scratching him on the face. Columbus was slightly affected by this; although he wasn’t seriously hurt. Suddenly, an idea came to Lew.

“Columbus! Go into the trees!” Columbus obeyed this, flying into the trees. He was now hidden, and Lewis smirked. However, so did Quinn.

“I like what you did there, Lewis. But I’m afraid that won’t work with Sentret,” She said. “Use Foresight.” She said to Sentret. Its eyes went a purple colour. “Now use Scratch on Pidgey!” She shouted.

“What, that won’t work. You’ll never find Pidgey in there.” Lewis said, wishing his statement to be true. But it wasn’t. Sentret ran into the trees, and the trainers heard a scratching noise similar to the move that Sentret just used. Columbus fell down from the trees, although he wasn’t done with yet. Both Pokémon returned to their original position, and Columbus was currently weaker than Sentret, stamina-wise.

“Foresight gives a Pokémon the ability to see far away objects. Sentret easily saw your Pidgey within seconds.” She revealed. I’m done hiding now, thought Lewis. It was time for attack.

“Quick Attack!” Lewis shouted. Columbus headed straight for Sentret at a fast pace, and hit it before Quinn could make it dodge. “And now Peck!” Lewis shouted once more. Sentret was still down from the quick attack.

“Dodge, Sentret!” Quinn shouted, in desperation. It was too late, and Columbus completed the move. Sentret was finally unable to battle. Lewis jumped for joy, as Pidgey came over. Lew hugged Columbus, still jumping in the air. Remembering his manners, Lew approached Quinn, who just returned her Pokémon.

“That was a great battle, Quinn! I thought you would beat me there!” he said. Quinn smiled at Lewis.

“I almost had you. I’ll guess I’ll see you around, then.” She said, walking over to a patch of Pokémon filled grass. Lewis hugged Columbus a tiny bit more, before returning him to his Pokéball. He would have to get to Viridian City now and rest there. He returned Columbus’ Pokéball to his belt, and walked to Viridian.
An hour or so later, Lewis had arrived at the Pokémon Centre. Nurse Joy showed him to his room, before Lew got undressed and went to sleep. What a day, he thought, drifting off to sleep.

Road to Pewter City…

When I collected my Grotle’s Pokeball from Nurse Joy, I quickly headed to the video monitor and pressed a few buttons. I needed to call Professor Oak.

After a few rings, he answered, the same old man I saw every day. “Oh hi, Jess,” he said joyfully. Then he looked around. “Where’s Turtwig?” I smiled and laughed.

“He evolved, Professor!” I told him.

Professor Oak looked shocked, then nodded. “That’s great news! To a Grotle I’m supposing? That’s great!” he shouted. I cleared my throat and he looked at me. “Oh, you must have called for a different reason, right Jess?”

I nodded. “Yes, Professor,” I started. “Remember that meeting we had about being in the Pokemon League just yesterday?”

“Yes,” Professor Oak nodded. “What about it?”

“I don’t really want to enter it.”

Professor Oak looked shocked. “Why ever not?!” he asked. “You’re one of the strongest trainers I’ve seen! And with the route your heading and with the Pokemon you’ve already befriended, you’ll become the best trainer in no time!” I knew Professor Oak was right – I befriended so many Pokemon as I traveled back and forth between Pallet Town and Viridian City. From what I remember, I befriended a Larvitar in the mountains just east from here and a Beedrill head of a hive that lived in the Viridian Forest. Very clingy, that little buggy. It was strong too!

“I think I want to stop these Dark trainers and rescue the Pokemon they steal,” I said. “But I might use entering the Pokemon League as an identity for right now.”

“That’s seems like a good idea!” Professor Oak mused. “Make up a team and travel around collecting badges. It’s up to you, Jess.” I nodded as the video monitor went black.

I quickly gathered my things and exited the Pokemon Center, walking up to the route where the Viridian Forest was. I perked my lips and whistled. After a few moments, I heard a buzzing noise and the Beedrill I befriended quickly flew over the roof of the trees and quickly over me.

I held out my hands, palms forward, wanting him to stop. “Alright Beedrill, stop.” I laughed. But he didn’t. My eyes widened as he knocked me straight in the gut and quickly turned around to sit on my head, his stingers around my neck gently. He buzzed happily and his wings flapped like crazy.

I laughed. “Nice to see you too, Beedrill!” I said.

“Buzz, buzz,” Beedrill said happily.

“Can you get off my head for a minute, Beedrill?” And he obeyed, letting go of my head and flying just above me, looking at me. I cleared my throat. “How would you like to join my team? I’m thinking of joining the Pokemon League and you’re one of the Pokemon I would really like to join me.”

Beedrill buzzed happily and I took that as a yes. I took out a Pokeball from my bag. “Great!” I said. “Come join!” I said before throwing the Pokeball up. The Pokeball opened and Beedrill turned into a pink transparent light. He was soon sucked into the Pokeball and it fell to the ground and began to shake…

Mijaan was wandering down yet another path, yet again. This entire town seemed to be made up of the same thing, Paths, Trees, Abit of grass... No wild pokemon! It was frustrating that he couldnt go home with a whole batch of pokemon to show his family. On second thought, what if i actually run into a wild pokemon! Eevee seems too tired to even think about battling another pokemon... Nevermind actually do it! After trudging along for a while... he finally got home. But nobody was there.
"Mum!?" Mij was irritated at the thought of his family going out without him. They knew he had gone to get his pokemon today... The strange thing, however, was that dads Carvanah didnt seem to be in his Aquarium. "Is anyone home?"
"Ha ha ha." Mij heard a womans voice cackling outside and he ran to the door as fast as he could, smacking it out of the way he glanced around and saw nothing. Until a female figure, dressed all in black, with a black hat and a strange symbol on her t-shirt, leaped from the roof of his house and landed on the ground below.
"What the..?" Mij questioned, before he was interupted by this woman.
"So kid, What pokemon did you get from that old fool Oak?" She asked, with a wicked grin on her face. "Come on, let's have a battle..."
"Damn it..." Mijaan pulled his pokeball off his belt. He'd never had a battle before and he didnt know what to expect. "Eevee, Let's go!"
The womans eyes widened as soon as she heard Eevee's name, it was clear that it interested her straight away.
"You do realise that pokemon has the ability to become Dark?" She grinned as she held a pokeball in the air. "Now... Come out Alakazam!" A flash of white light that was so bright, stunning mijaan at first, eventually revealed an Alakazam, dressed in some kind of black armor.
"What... is that!?" Mij looked clearly confused, he pulled out his pokedex and it seemed to just short out in his hand. He looked back up at this strangely dressed Alakazam who seemed to be powering itself up in some way.
"Alakazam! Use Dark Beam on Eevee! Let's mix this up!" And seconds after she called out her attack, Alakazam's armor had a strange black energy swirling from it, and had sent Eevee flying, through a thick beam of black and blue energy, into the wall of the house. It was out cold.
"What..? Dark beam?" Mij looked back at Eevee over his shoulder, it had fainted. He then looked back at Alakazam and it's trainer. There was nothing he could do here.
"And now, Eevee is mine!" A pokeball fell from the sky and flew in Eevee's direction. Mij saw it and ran towards his injured pokemon. The dark blue coloured beam that shot out of the ball hit Mijaan instead of its target. He fell to the ground but quickly rose to his feet and ran over to eevee. By now, eevee was glowing in a bright white light.
"Eevee?" Mij looked on scared for his little pokemon, he didnt know what was happening. But emerging from the bright light wasnt Mij's Eevee... It was Umbreon.
"What!? This is not possible!" The strangely dressed woman shouted angrily as Umbreon stepped forward, standing in Mij's way. "That attack was supposed to trigger the darkness within it but... It wasnt supposed to evolve!! ..ggr... Alakazam, Dark beam that kid! Let's take him down!"
"BRI!" Umbreon wasnt about to let that happen, and instantly ran towards alakazam and disappeared before it could even start charging another attack, Umbreon swiftly Appeared behind it and jumped straight through him with a Faint Attack. Alakazam's armor exploded and sent the injured Alakazam to the ground. Umbreon then seemed to be concentrating his energy. Mijaan feel back as a wave of darkness came from umbreon, and the area around Mij's house became darkened and Moonlit. Umbreon was now healing itself with Moonlight. It glared angrily at Alakazam, before it's trainer returned it.
"Argh... This has never happened before!" The trainer said before turning around and fleeing. "I'll get you kid!"
Umbreon bowed its head and stood looking proud. It had saved it's new trainer from... something. He turned around to see Mij on the kneeling to the ground in pain and quickly ran over to his aid. He crawled underneath him and lifted him onto his back. And with it's new found strength, began running towards Oaks lab.
Mijaan had no idea what had just happened... and felt so dizzy.
By the time they reached Oak's lab, Mijaan had passed out. Prof. Oak was amazed that Eevee had evolved into an umbreon so early...
"Umbreon? Hm.." Oak thought. "Mijaan wouldnt have made the choice to evolve Eevee into a dark pokemon, what with the theft of Dark pokemon in kanto recently."
Oak then put Mij into a bed for the night and umbreon laid at the bottom of the bed. He wasnt leaving Mijaan alone after what had just happened, not for anything.

Ah! ^^"...I missed like...Everything ^^"...Ok ok...Catch up time >=P

Kale watched as new trainers seemed to flood Oak's lab. He looked calm but being someone who came back to share some new experiences in front of this many trainers...he was a little nervous. Though, his mind seemed to ignore the nervousness and talk solemnly about all the dark Pokemon that have been getting stolen.

Kale told Oak about a companion he had with him for a day or two having his Murkrow stolen. He spoke about how devastated his friend was being a new trainer and having his pokemon just stolen. His friend didn't have much to say about seeing the thief; he really didn't see much.

Oak didn't really ask many questions while Kale spoke, he just nodded a lot. But, when Kale was finally done talking, Oak seemed to have a happy attitude and talked about some pointless thing Kale couldn't really care less about. He sighed and listened though.
When Nova came through the doors Kale was relieved. Oak became quiet and looked at Nova instead of speaking. Kale's eyes slightly twitched at the sight of Nova's Houndour. He calmed himself as Nova returned the creature though. Nova nodded over to Kale, but just as Kale was gonna smirk and nod back, a kid crashed into Nova and challenged him to a battle. Kale rolled his eyes and sighed.

Stupid kid, Kale thought referring to the child who now threw out his Bulbasaur.

Kale watched as Nova battled, noticing the resemblance he and Nova shared in battling style. Though, Kale thought for sure Nova would sent a nice fire attack down on that Bulbasaur. Of course, they were in a lab. Kale was quite impressed nevertheless though. Nova was certainly a good trainer who had, already, earned Kales' respect.

After watching Nova's battle and all the other trainers' getting their Pokemon, Kale was anxious to get back to his journey. He waited until everyone was out of the Center before h decided to leave.

"Alright, Professor," he began as he lifted his bag onto his shoulder, "I'll see you around."

Oak grabbed Kale by the arm before he started walking away. Kale had a slight sense of fear from the grip but kept it hidden.

"If you hear anything, Kale...Tell me," Oak said with a serious tone.

Kale nodded. Oak released the boy and smiled. "Feel free to call," he said happily.

Kale smiled awkwardly, gripped the strap to his bag, and walked out. (If you wanted Oak to do anything specific with Kale inform me. I can always edit).

"That Oak," Kale sighed as he walked through Pallet, "He can be some kinda strange sometimes."

Kale found himself back at the border of Pallet and Route 1 (It is Route 1 right? o.o). He stared out at the grassy fields before taking a step forward. He stopped in the middle of a small flower patch. He imagined something amazing happening right now. Maybe a legendary jumping out, making his life a bit more exciting. He closed his eyes and day dreamed.

Suddenly, in the midst of his daydream...

"Ra!" a Rattata shouted as it leaped through the air towards Kale.

Kale snapped back into reality...After the Rattata crashed into him. He fell to the ground, his bag a few feet away from him.

"What in the world," he mumbled as he slowly leaned up, rubbing his head.

Kale looked over to his bag and saw a large Rattata rummaging through his things.

"Hey!" he shouted, immediately getting up and racing towards the creature.

The Rattata took its head out with half a sandwich in its mouth, glaring at Kale.

"Get away from my bag you rat!" Kale shouted as he kicked the bag, therefore kicking the Rattata away from it.

Kale watched as the Rattata ran away with half of his turkey sandwich. After he was sure the rat was gone he opened his bag and took out half a sandwich.

"Stupid rat," he grumbled to himself.

He reached into his bag again and took out a Pokeball. He it the button with his thumb and a red light came out of the ball and morphed into the shape of a cute little Pikachu.

"Pika!" Pikachu cheered with delight.

Kale smiled at the happiness of his Pokemon. "Sparky, you'll be staying out with me. Just had a run in with some horrible Rattata. I need you out here in case something like that happens again."

The Pikachu, Sparky, smiled. "Pika, Pika!"

Kale slung his bag over his shoulder and took a bite out of his half a turkey sandwich. He started walking again. Sparky leaped up onto his bag (So he was laying on the bag that was at Kales' side). Kale smiled again and ripped a piece off his sandwich. He gave it to Sparky and watched as the Pokemon ate it. He pet Sparky as he walked on towards Viridian.

Kale made it to Viridian by nightfall without a single run in with any trainer or Pokemon. He sighed in disappointment and walked into the town's Pokemon Center.

Nurse Joy smiled as he walked in. "How may I help you?" she asked when he approached the counter.

Kale put his right pointer finger to his mouth then pointed to a sleeping Sparky. Nurse joy looked at the cute Pikachu and smiled again.

"1 room?" she asked quietly.

Kale nodded. Nurse Joy handed him the key and he walked down the hall to his room.

Kale took off his sweatshirt and pants and crawled into bed, after gently placed Sparky at the head of the bed.

"Good night, Sparky," he said as he closed his eyes and drifted to sleep.

END OF DAY 1

Blah...Not my best work there...I figured I'd have Kale catch something on Day 2....He's not much of a starter ^^"
