I'm very interested to see what this Conflicker will actually do.. my school's entire network is effected with it and tomorrow should be quite an interesting day if Conflicker does have some sort of very negative influence.
My personal laptop should hopefully be safe enough. I have the most recent Vista updates and 3 anti-virus programs running: avast!, Avira Free and Norton (but I'm getting rid of Norton once the trial expires). I probably won't come online tomorrow just in case, until after I find out what this virus will actually do. I am actually slightly worried, I've caught practically all of the larger worms and viruses in the past few years before but I hope this time will be an exception.
It's actually a bad idea to run more than one antivirus program at a time; they can interfere with each others' operation. You should uninstall Norton, as it's just a trial, and uninstall Avira, as there are reports it is unable to detect Conficker. Avast! will recognize Conficker as Win32:Confi. Also, for the record, it's called "Conficker;" it comes from combining the word "configure" with a German swear word.

If you've been repeatedly infected, I can give you a bit of advice. First, follow the steps I outlined in my earlier post for preventing infection by Conficker regarding disabling autoplay/autorun and disabling shared folders. Alternately, just do not connect to any infected computers or use any removable media that has come into contact with infected computers. If your school's network is affected with it, you should bring it to the head technician's attention, and direct him or her to the Sophos program I attached to my earlier post. An easy way to test if you are infected is to try to access the website of an anti-virus vendor; if you cannot access it or are redirected to another site, you may be infected.

Additionally, make sure that if you are running Firefox, you are using the latest version of Adblock Plus. If you are not using Firefox, configure your browser to use Privoxy (just Google instructions for your browser). You may also want to consider using OpenDNS, as it has a few security features and makes things a bit faster.

AVG and Spybot you say!!?!?!?!??? my god, you're already infected D; update to something that isn't crap.
lol. AVG is like a virus's best friend... It doesnt pick up viruses so it gets less work XD

btw; I wouldnt be scared of the virus people, IMO its nothing to worry about if you dont viciously surf the internet

Not going on the computer for one day won't help as the worm is running everyday from April the 1st. Today is when the worm is activated, so it still will be functioning tomorrow, the next day and so on.
This. With all the people offline thinking they're avoiding something big, the threat won't be as big.

yeah, I'm sure home users would love losing their credit card and bank details from conficker
What if someone doesn't do any of that stuff? My dad is usually the one that does all the stuff for me like that. If anyone wopuld get it, it would be him.

Would it still affect me even if I hardly ever placed credit card information and all that in my computer? Meh. My parents want me to shut down my computer when I go to bed tonight. As they say it won't affect me if it's off. D:

I feel that I must refute this statement unless someone can point out information supporting this, I have checked every Anti-virus website that has support for macs and have found absolutely nothing to suggest that there is a version of Conficker that targets the Mac OS X operating system.
his worm, which affects Windows computers, has no effect on Mac OS X; at least not yet. Intego’s Virus Monitoring Center is on full alert in case a Mac OS X variant of this worm should appear, but, so far, Mac users are in the clear. However, Mac users who run Windows on their Macs are at the same risk as those running Windows on PCs.
As the quote states, If you use a version of Windows using a Boot Camp set up, then only that partition that contains Windows should be affected.

Thanks

To add to that, an article on Yahoo confirmed that Macs were immune to this one.

Is this seriously gonna get to my Mac?
Well...
Then I'm screwed.
Nope, it's immune:

It's just a locked hidden autorun file and folder on usbs and a hidden file in autoprotect IIRC.

I have a Macbook Pro and an iMac so I'll just sit back and laugh at all the PC-users misfortune.
Most PC members have Windows D: Laugh at dead PokeCommunity, then.

just to re-itterate, if your on a mac and using the Mac OS X operating system, you have nothing to worry, but if you are on a mac and Run Microsoft Windows (any version) whether in a virtual machine or via Boot Camp you still need to check.

If you use Mac OS X and use USB drives regularly with Windows based machines, you can download an anti-virus for Macs so that you do not transfer the Conficker to your Windows computers.
I use iAntivirus (free) or you can also use ClamXav (free), or get a paid antivirus/antispam from Intego Internet Security or Norton.
