I thought this up while trying to go to sleep, it won't be my main story, and I'm not that sure if it'll work that good either...but I wanted to give it a shot, so here it is.
Chapter Info:
1. The War

Chapter 1: The War
It was an early morning. Rain poured down from the sky as if it would never end. Max huddled underneath a trash can lid, trying to keep dry. His arms were soar and his body just ached in general. The previous day had been the worst in a few weeks.

Yes, Max lived on the streets as an orphan. His parents were killed right in front of him, and because of him. Now, Max lives on the streets of Odjin Town. Odjin Town was his birth town and is still his home.

Suddenly, footsteps came walking down the dark alley Max lived in. Max looked up and tried to push himself closer against the building he was huddled up against. He moved his feet to keep them from view of the person. He dropped his head against his knees to keep his breathing down. Max had learned how to do all of these things of survival and more in his eight years of being an orphan.

Then, the person stopped right in front of him. He wore brown leather boots and a pair of beige pants, but that was all Max could see without giving himself up. He closed his eyes, as if it would prevent the stranger from seeing him.

The reason for doing all of this you might ask? Max trusts nobody. He barely even trusts someone else he knows who has been an orphan for six years. Max trusts nobody, not after what happened all those years ago.

"Where are you, Maximillion?" the strange man asked. His voice was rough and sounded so very old. As if he were one million years old. Max silently gulped and debated coming out and revealing himself to the stranger.

He opened his eyes, and then closed them again. He decided that he would reveal himself. Even if he were to die, nobody cared about him. Barely anyone knew Maximillion Render even exhisted.

He got on to his knees and then crawled from under the trashbin lid and stood in front of the stranger. Max could see his entire appearence now. He had a rough and stern body. His eyes were a stunning emerald color, he had a small brown beard, and a brown mustache. A scar ran down his right eye and he wore a white shirt with a brown leather vest. He also carried a knife.

Max took a few steps toward the way he could run once he saw the knife. The man smirked at Max's reaction to the knife. He was much taler then the twelve year old, and Max mysteriously wasn't that intimidated by him. He was intimidated by the knife.

"Afraid of blades, boy? Shouldn't blame ya. Not after what happened to yer family." the man said. His voice was rougher now, and sounded more like a traveller.

"Wh-why are looking for me?" Max quivered. He stared at the man questioningly, ready to leave at any second.

"Just wonderin' if ya were hungry." the man said. He reached in to one of his bags and pulled out a large hunk of meat. Max's eyes widened at the sight of the meat. is mouth was left gaping wide open, and Max quickly shut it. He shook his head and looked at the man to keep his mind off the food.

"No. I'm not." Max lied. "Besides, I don't take food from strangers." Max turned around and started walking towards the streets, he didn't want to talk to the man anymore. Once Max was gone, the man sighed in defeat. The truth was, that he had hidden a razorblade inside of the meat. He had been hoping Max would eat it and swollow the blade, killing him from the inside.

Max looked for somewhere to hide until the rain stopped. His clothes were soaking wet and his hair was flat against his face, which he hated. Max wore a pair of long, tattered brown pants, a yellow shirt, and a brown coat that was much to long for him. He had black hair and piercing crystal blue eyes. His hair was usually a mess, but when it rained it was always against his face.

Max found a spot covered by a balcony at a shop. The shopkeeper never cared if people sat or slept outside his building during the day, it was mostly by night when he cared. Max laid down on the hard ground next to the shop.

It was so hard to live this way. Most people would never live to know it. Starving everyday, having to steal for you dinner, and having to sleep on the hard ground. It sucked to live without a family. Max turned his head towards the building, and soon fell asleep to the pitering and pattering of the rain.

---
Max woke up, and it had stopped raining. Surprisingly, the sky was clear of all clouds and the sun was shining brightly out. Max sighed, the first time in a few years on this date. It was the day when eight years ago somebody had killed his family.

Max stood up, and started walking off to the spot where his family's graves where at. He rubbed his face, wiping it free of the mud from last night off. In a few minutes he arrived at the graves.

They were surronded by cherry blossom trees, and they were in full bloom. Max fell down to his knees in front of the four graves. His mother, father, older brother, and older sister where all here. Max closed his eyes, and tried preventing tears from flowing from them, but it didn't work.

Max remembered the exact scene of the killings. It haunted his dreams, and he also remembered the killer's face perfectly. Whenever someone spoke of the devil, that man was always the person Max though of.

Max was only four when it happened. The man had been Max's only friend for a few months, and one day the man asked if he could go to Max's house. Max said it would be fine and quickly took him to the house. The man then took out a knife and killed his parents. His older brother then tried defending him and his older sister with a kitchen knife, bt the man managed a stab to his stomach where he died from severe loss in blood. He then killed his older sister and left Max to suffer.

Max looked at the graves with horror. It had been and was all his fault they were dead. Countless times people had told him it wasn't his fault, but that wasn't true. Max wiped the tears away as a big blue animal flew across the cherry blossom trees and landed softly on the ground a few meters away. It was about the size of a horse.

Max walked over towards the animal. He smiled once he reached the animal. It was a very rare Drafilion Dragon. Max patted the dragon's head and laughed once the dragon nuzzled him.

Max knew the dragon. It had lived with him for the past few years after Max rescued him from a few other older dragons who were bullying him. Max had named him Sapphire after his color.

"Sapphire, where did you go last night? I searched for you all night once I woke up and you were gone! You must have come here knowing I would be here today, huh?" Max asked.

"Yes." Sapphire said. Sapphire had only been able to talk for a few weeks now, but Max had gotten used to it. Sapphire had told him about a war of the races between the different dragon races. Each race could only have one gifted human to fight for their side, because it was said that human's blood was like poison to dragons. Sapphire had told Max this, hoping Max would join the war as the Drafilion dragon's human, seeing as there was only about a good 50 Drafilion dragons left compared to the average 400 per race.

Max smiled and wrapped his arms around Sapphire's neck tightly. He knew that once Drafiion Dragons hit the age of 6 in human years they would start rapidly growing, and Max had owned Sapphire for about 6 now. Sapphire had grown to a good enough size to where Max could ride him, and soon he would be fully grown.

Max jumped on to Sapphire's back and Sapphire lifted off the ground. "So, max. Have you decided about the war yet?" Sapphire asked.

"Yes, I want to fight for the Drafilion dragons. I mean, I have nothing to lose other then you." It was true. Saphire was the only thing Max truely trusted.

Sapphire smiled and then landed at the edge of a cliff. Max knew that this would be the beginning of a huge war ahead, and he was ready. He would have to get weapons, and better armor, but he could do it. He smiled as he stared across the land ahead of them, knowing he might never come back to Odjin Town.
