Okay people, I just finished reading a book called "Of mice and men", it's a book by John Steinbeck, I read it in 4 hours, the last few pages I read while crying, it was just so sad and unfair, it was not all Lenny's fault, it was also thats slut's fault, trying to seduce Lenny, she should have known better.

CONTAIN'S PLOT SPOILERS!
Spoiler:

I encourages everyone to read it, if you have then please join my in a conversation about it.

What was you opinion on it?
Did you like the ending?
If you were Candy would you have hidden the body?
Would you have killed Lenny Like Georges did?
Was Curleys wife a slut?
Was it it fair of Curley to attack Lenny?
What is your opinion of Lenny?
If you were candy what would you have done about the dog?
Would you have left Lenny alone with the puppys?

Plot: Of mice and men is a book about Georges and Lenny. Lenny is Tall muscualar and a slow in the head he has the maturity of an baby, he follows Georges everywhere he goes. Georges is a small rude guy, that take cares of Lenny. They have to flee town, so they flee the state and get them self hired at another farm.

Wikepedia can explain this better then I can:

Two migrant field workers in California's Salinas Valley during the Great Depression—George Milton, an intelligent and cynical man, and Lennie Small, an ironically-named man of large stature and immense strength but limited mental abilities—arrive at a ranch near Soledad, southeast of Salinas, California, to "work up a stake." They hope to realize their shared dream of settling down on their own piece of land. Lennie's part of the dream, which he never tires of hearing George describe, is merely to tend to (and touch) soft rabbits on the farm. George protects Lennie at the beginning by telling him that if Lennie gets into trouble, George won't let him "tend them rabbits." They are fleeing from their previous employment in Weed where they were run out of town after Lennie's love of stroking soft things resulted in an accusation of attempted rape when he touched a young woman's dress.
At the ranch, the dream appears to move closer to reality. Candy, the aged, one-handed ranch-hand, even offers to pitch in with Lennie and George so they can buy the farm by the end of the month. The dream crashes when Lennie accidentally kills the young and attractive wife of Curley, the ranch owner's son, while trying to stroke her hair. A lynch mob led by Curley gathers. George, realizing that he is doomed to a life of loneliness and despair like the rest of the migrant workers, and wanting to spare his friend a painful death at the hands of the vengeful and violent Curley, finds Lennie and gently recite with him their dreams of owning their own land just before shooting him in the back of the head.

Is this required at your school?
Because... Well, it is at mine. Everyone reads it Freshmen Year. It was a fairly good book, and yeah, the ending was kinda sad. But Lennie had to be taken out, else he would have ended up doing more... "Bad things".
The Movie was decent as well.
I laughed at the part where Lennie got killed, because he was all excited and George just got up and capped him. I'm sorry, but that was just hilarious, from my perspective.

Yes it was, I also had to reads The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, I'll make a thread about that later. We will be watching the movie after Easter break.

It was just so sad how Georges got him exited before he killed him, they could have tried to find some help for Lenny, they could have put down more stricter rules, it was so sad when he killed his puppy.
And that slut, she should have known better, I hate her, if she had not done anything, Candy, Georges and Lenny would have bought that lot of their own. I think they should have given Lenny to the cops, or they could have hidden the body of that slut and then moved 3 weeks later.

Not much, but that was a really good book. I read it freshman year of high school as well, it was one of the better ones. I'm in English 2 Honors this year and we haven't read ANYTHING good -_- We need to read something like that again!

You can't really blame her. She may be stupid and perhaps a slut aswell, but is that really her fault? She had a poor upbringing, everyone took advantage of her and she had to get married to a scumbag in order to have a roof over her head. She was just so happy to have someone to talk to. I think the film portays that better than the book. In the film she seems more sad and broken (but still rather attention seeking perhaps) rather than a slut.
It shows how hard it was to get by in those days and the fragility of peoples wishes. The only despicable character in that book is Curley IMO.

Ah, I read this a few months ago. Believe me, the "feeding wabbits alfalfa" references in my school were staggering.

Honestly, I believe that George killed Lennie to get him out of something extremely painful - think about it. After Candy's dog died, did it ache and hurt all over anymore? No, because it was dead. Just imagine what the men would have done to Lennie after he accidentally killed Curly's wife... especially Curly. He didn't even like Lennie in the first place!

And yeah... she was a slut.

Well, she wasn't that great of a character to begin with. I wasn't all that bummed for her when she died - I was more worried about what was going to happen to Lennie.

But I did feel the ending was a bit cut off. Ugh, I hate that.

Spoiler:
George shoots Lennie. "Hey, let's get a beer. Bye!"

Honestly, WTF was up with that ending?...

Also, I hate it when everyone gets mad at George for being annoyed over Lennie's behaviour. Obviously those people haven't sit with people with people like Lennie at lunch... every day. It is very difficult not to get frustrated with trying to understand them or get your point across, and George's frustration is completely logical, and it suits the times as well. You sympathize, and yet, you are frustrated. It's a unique feeling.

Lennie's got quite the muscle, eh? I always thought he was like a big friendly teddy bear, though - he was kind and meant no harm, but if you angered him, you were in for some trouble. Especially considering that he doesn't exactly "follow the rules".

The book was interesting, and I quite liked it. Lennie didn't know what to do in situations, as he is child-like, so you can't blame him for what happened I suppose. Oh, and there are 2 films of "Of Mice and Men", one starring that guy who was in CSI New York... Forgot his name. he was in the modern one, and is the better out of the 2 (shows Lennie's violence realistically, like him and Curly)

'Fun' really isn't something anyone could call Of Mice and Men, but obviously the film gets the emotion and such across better. The colour one at least is fairly good.
I agree with this post, I wouldn't say it was fun, but I prefer the film to the book; I think it portrays the story a lot better and John Malkovich plays Lennie very well.

Well we saw half off it then we had to stop, well so far nothing has happened and so far I like the book much better, I imagined Lenny to be different, maybe with more hair and I imagined Georges to be a lot shorter maybe missing a tooth or two. But Candy was Spot on, tho Slim was not as handsome as the book lets people think he is.

Now that you all are bringing up two movies, I'd really like to see the more modern one. The older one was kind of meh.
