Pokemon? THE most famous generalized Anime in the US mainly? This is not a "your favourite Anime" thread so don't spam or flood this thread with your personal opinion on Anime--this is an overview of everyone else.

Ask anyone generally, someone who has never watched Anime or played video games.. generally people older than thirty who are out of touch with 'the new.' What hand held game or anime have they heard of?

Sailormoon usually comes up. Dragon Ball Z close behind it. Naruto only because of the kid who buried himself in the sand box in attempt to gain Gaara's power over sand and suffocated to death before being plastered all over the TV.

But "Poke-E-Manz" "Poke-E-Men" and other variations are usually the first or sometimes the only thing to come up.

Pikachu is sometimes referred to as the Micky Mouse of Western Society--to Japan.

Pikachu, sometimes referred to as the SYMBOL of Anime and even the symbol of modern Japanese culture itself.

Countless Pokemon memes spam and flood the internet more than Sailormoon Death Note or Bleach memes ever seem to.

Slow Poke is slow

F*%K Yeah SeaKing.

Let me show you my Poke-E-Manz.

You're going to need more Poke-E-men than that to defeat him!

Or even the whole religious fuss to remove Pokemon from television because they believe Pikachu to be the symbol of the devil with it's evil beady eyes, colour scheme and lightning bolt tail.

Much fuss about the seizure incident which hospitalized over seven hundred children in Japan from flashing scenes in the Porygon Episode (Diglett Episode).

Yes--sure. All of China banned Death Note and most countries, bringing a note book with the words "Death" or "Death Note" scribbled onto their covers can get you arrested or suspended for bringing weapons on to school property---many different Anime series have caused a lot of fuss and media attention.. But does any random person you stop on the street even know what Death Note or any of those other Anime series are?

Most people don't. One thing they might recognize is Pokemon.

Then again, other series such as Power rangers and Transformers originated in Japan. While never counted as Anime among the general Population, do they count?

Discuss~ But please don't be mean to anybody. This is not a bashing thread nor should it ever turn into one. Much respect to Death Note fans and other Anime fans. ~ <3

You kind of contradicted yourself there.

Honestly, not a lot of people watch it anymore since Dawn came in.
Death can't cure idiocy.

I would have to disagree, though I don't have any proof, I swear I hear more of Dragonball Z then I do Pokemon, but maybe that's just out of bias (never really liked the series after Orange Islands)

No one died from Electric Solider Porygon.
They were, however, hospitalized by the hundreds. That is big controversy and news. Hmm....

Anyways, yes, if I ever ask anyone of Death Note, only the anime obsessors would know. However, if I talk about Pokémon, everyone would either be discussin' about the good o' days or how it's childish. Either way, everyone knows what Pokémon is.

Pikachu is an icon of Japan, hands down.
