So then do you have a field of technology where you know a lot of it and how the products in that field work? And have you been criticized for it? Or have you confused your friends with it? Or has it been helpful in anyway?
So yeah for me I know a LOT and i mean a lot about cell phones. I can tell you the OS of each phone the version and all the specs. I confused my friends one day and told em about how each phone has a different UI when we went into a phone provider. They were totally confused and all but i think they managed. Oh and the shop buy was looking at me like wait wait wait. You know this how?! XD But yeah i am criticized a lot by them as they say to me if it makes calls then it works fine. But no i go the extra mile and go for the good stuff. You guys ever been in a predicament like this?

My knowledge on tech is mainly on the gaming side thanks to college lol.
So I know all the terms for game engines and the different stuff that make up the engines (such as different middleware or rendering tools).
This has also helped with my PC knowledge since I am into beefing up my PC to play the latest games and so on.
I tend to stay up to date on tech in general by going onto gizmodo, endgadget, cnet, and all those sites.
My friends just know that if they have a question in the tech field they can just ask me. I hate people that think they know everything about tech stuff in general. I think if you flaunt your tech knowledge around in public, your just a douche. Trust me, I think a lot of people in college are lol.

I work in IT Services full-time, but I'm only an apprentice. I feel like I'm learning more and more every day though, and I have a natural interest that really helps.

I'm pretty good at administering Windows XP, finding my way round Lotus Notes (it was sent by the DEVIL, can we have Outlook please?) and various (including inhouse-developed) applications.

Most of my interest is in networks and telephony though =3 I hope I get to work in that team during my apprenticeship.

My areas of expertise are software, security, cost-reduction, appearance customization, and performance optimization on Windows-based PCs. While I use and prefer Linux (specifically Fedora) as well, and I'm actively trying to expand my knowledge; I can't deny that I know a great deal more about Windows, as I've used it my entire life. As I plan to go into IT, I feel this is a good skill set to have, however.

My tech knowledge of late has been pretty well limited to Apple technology. If I get down to it, my main knowledge base is hardware. I can built and repair just about any computer, but I do have an ok sense when it comes to software. I can't code for anything, but I can use things alright. I've been called a member of the Apple clan, a mindless Apple fanboy, and an iTard before, but I really ignore that sort of thing because I deal just as much with Microsoft as I do Apple in my house.

Fortunately enough, my friends and I all know quite a bit about the world of modern technology. We tend to have different areas of expertise though, which makes for some conflicts in knowledge and those "WTF are you talking about I always thought it was this way" moments. An example conversation:

Me: "Hey, have you seen some of the new stuff on Doom 4?"
Them: "Yeah, it looks pretty sweet."
Me: "It looks like id is going to be using the same engine as they did for the previous game."
Them: "The Quake engine?"
Me: "Nah, id Tech."
Them: "WUT? I thought Doom 3 ran on Quake."
Me: "Kinda... It's a derivative, but the Quake engine is outdated now. The fact that the two engines both use binary space partitioning is what throws people off."
Them: "Oh."
Me: "Yeah."
Them: "Hey, have you seen the new PSP custom firmware?"
Me: "Yep!"
Them: "You can just drag and drop ISOs to play now! It's great!"
Me: "Wait, what? I thought you had to patch it and stuff..."
Them: "Nope, you just drop it into a folder on the root of your memory stick now."
Me: "I thought it had to do with a few different EBOOTs?"
Them: "Not really nowadays."

I know about desktop computers and PDAs. And netbooks too. Not on an expert level, but enough to understand straight away when someone tells me specs about a computer or PDA. My knowledge of PDAs expanded recently when my friend began his hunt for one last month. He's still searching for one and always calls me to tell me about this awesome one he found on eBay.

Don't know much about technology, just know how to edit scripts when making my own games using RPG Maker XP, or making my own Private server for an online game.

It's pretty good when it comes to things I have interest in.

Video game consoles/controllers tend to be pretty high on my agenda.

PC I know about more than the average person but there isn't much point, it's as easy as Lego.

Sound equipment I'm alright with too, not too big on the technical side though.

I used to know more about computers, due to the number of computer courses I took in middle school. However, I was in 8th grade in 2001, so I'm a bit outdated. I probably will say that I know more than the average person when it comes to computers, but I could definitely know more. I feel competent enough to build my own computer if that tells you anything about my techie level.

I pretty much only know about computers though. Other things... not so much.
