I don't really mind it as long as it's used in moderation. I don't mind people using "lol," "brb," "lmfao," and a few others. I always try to type properly, though. It doesn't matter whether I'm on a forum, MSN, or texting. Before I got my new phone, the T9 feature really helped with that (now I just use the keybaord).

I don't really care if the people around me use chat speak. It's not like I can't understand them.
I know my grammar isn't perfect, because I like to type how I talk on forums.
Doll, you make them feel so small
AND THEY LOVE IT!

I don't mind it in text messages, but have very huge issues with it elsewhere. I mean, on a text, you have a set number of characters before it goes over to a new text, and I understand that, but when you are on an email or a forum, you have as much typing space are you need, so why write like that?

Generally if I'm using noob-talk, it's because I'm kidding. If I am completely serious, I will never use it, but if I say something like, "ya ur rly fat" or the like, people generally know that I am kidding. XD;

Ok. I think I posted something about this topic a while back. But let me restate things. Yes it's good for texting or IM'ing, for jokes it's fine but excessive use in forums just makes you look really bad.

It's funny on how it starts seeping through our creative writing and school assignments though, but bad for the future. =/

Yeah, that's the same with me. 8)
I would never use it seriously in a sentence, but when I do use it, it's usually for the sake of internet humor.

I used to do that when I first started IMs, but now I really hate it. It's so hard to read and I've become more accustomed to just typing things in full; or sometimes slightly shortened (missing one or two letters from long words or using very, very common abbreviations).

Chatspeak must die in a fire. So should all the people that use it. Yes, even when texting. Some phones do have full keyboards now, so they should be of use. This also applies even if you have a phone without a keyboard.

I despise TXTSPK/chatspeak. I never use it (Things like LOL/LMAO/WTF/FTW/FML don't count) on messenger and I don't even use it when I text people. If anything, it takes me longer to type in chatspeak than it does typing normally haha :/

With the exception of "lol" and similar abbreviations, I prefer to type in proper english. I have friends who'll type "Ohemgeeeee that is the cooooooolest thing I've everrr heard!" And I'll always think "isn't chatspeak supposed to shorten the words so you don't have to type as much?" Yeah, I even text in proper English, just to get a kick out of it.

If you mean those times when people replace letters with numbers, that is an absolute no in my book.

Other things such as lol or rofl are fine, I myself am a frequent user of them, just not the annoying ones where I can barely read it. =/

In all honesty, I view it as the biggest forced butchering of the entire history of written language. In my experiences with conversing with somebody using it and speaking it myself in my early days of using Internet communiqués, I've found that it causes the speaker to sound unintelligent and lazy, even when sending a text message via cell phone (you have a 1000 character limit for a reason; unless you're sending somebody a novel via text message, use it!). It's often difficult to understand somebody using chatspeak, especially when they misspell a word and you begin to start guessing at what they were trying to tell you because it seems completely foreign. Then after you send a message back saying, "What? What did you say?" they might ridicule you for being completely incompetent of understanding their horrendously broken English by replying with "lol omg ur so stpd y cnt u undrstnd wat im saing? its so ez."

I'm perfectly fine with the acronyms that come with it like "lol" or "brb." however; acronyms have been used in speech and writing for as long as we can remember because they prove to be practical.

In short, I would rather write and type in an intelligible format than revert to chatspeak.

If idiots could fly, Yahoo Answers would be an airport.

I don't mind chatspeak like LOL, ROFL, LMAO, or some other words. Especially if they use it in texting, I understand the limitations of typing messages with cellphone.
But I do get annoyed when people started typing with capitalized letter in every single word. Waste of time and, please, it does hurt our eyes.
It's funny though when people says "LOL" instead of laughing when speaking directly.

Chat-Speak in Roleplays, Fanfiction, Essays or anything else REMOTELY proper is ghastly and disrespects actual authors. I can't believe I'm actually saying this [my hatred for twilight knows no boundaries] but did Stephanie Meyer use CS in the Twilight Series? No. Should you? No. It's absolute laziness that shows a complete lack of disrespect for people in the roleplay and a lack of the basics of fundamental english [I don't mind grammatical errors if it's not your main language but just excusing yourself with the 'it's not my native tounge so i'll just use chat speak' makes me rather angry. >3>] and overall makes english teachers want to die inside.

Seriously people, it takes an extra couple seconds to type the entire word out and it makes you look that much smarter.
