I can't give specific examples, because I barely remember the anime really, but I found at some point romantic relationships between not only Pokemon and other pokemon, but Pokemon and humans were hinted at.. or at least a Pokemon feeling extremely protective or caring after the human, extremely so to the point of a love..

Jynx is stated in the game to speak a language similar to humans. It is called the "humanshape" pokemon, and it's in the humanshape egg group. Then again, it has been suggested that it's just a void using psychic power to hold up clothes and lips. I'm guessing it could use its psychic power to conjure up other body parts though.

Come to think of it, there would be a lot of problems with a human-pokemon relationship. What if the pokemon had the static or flame body ability? Ouch.

But yeah, I'm pretty sure this is a distinct possibility. i mean, pokemon breed with each other, so they could definitely have romantic relations with people. Look at meowth in the anime, this is proof that pokemon are as intelligent as people. At least in the anime. In the games I think they're just animals.

I think it's an interesting topic when you don't strictly think only about the psychical relationship as he said "Let's keep it clean".

I do think a romantic relationship between a human and pokemon is a possible idea, as besides the fighting you have the general trainer who sees them higher than a pet or an equal to themselves. There are many grey areas and I don't think it would be looked highly upon, but I don't think they would make illegal to have a romantic relationship with the list dream's-epilogue posted.

It'll never reach a consensus, because of those people that jump in there and say "Ew no" because they don't feel like thinking about the logistics, reasoning, and morality themselves because our forefathers said no and apparently that is reason enough. Thinking for yourself is overrated.
There are those that have thought about it yourselves and said more than a few words, made a good argument for or opposing, and make this a more interesting topic. Non-flaming debates are always interesting.

This IS an interesting topic. I'm sure it'd definitely be taboo from most points of view.

Of course, the possibility of a romantic relationship between a human and a pokemon is definitely there. We know that platonic love between a human and a pokemon exists, and that there are several pokemon with intelligence equal to or above the average human, so I don't see why a romantic relationship couldn't exist between the two. Humans and pokemon are also, to some extent, capable of communicating. (And of course, there are pokemon that can speak.) Is it a slippery slope? Yes. But it is viable.

Naturally, it would mean a hard road ahead of the couple, but if they were truly in love, that wouldn't really matter.

Most of my thoughts have already been stated way better than I could hahaha.

(Pffff I just realized that my title makes this post pretty fitting.)

If you don't mind me asking... why exactly do people think it wouldn't work? The current misconceptions about it only stem from a strictly physical relationship with that of current animals.

When you really get down to it if they were as smart as people (which a lot of them seem to be) and were able to make the decision for themselves I see no problem.

I hear the pickins are gooood for Lucario...Right, Bad Company? :P jk, I saw that one too. ^^"

anyways, I think it would be legal (with consent), but stongly discouraged by a vast majority of humankind, if not the majority of Pokemon. The older-fashioned behavioral foundation seems much more predominant in PokeEarth as opposed to our little planet, from my point of view.

also, about the Canalave book about Pokemon having relationships with humans, it said (paraphrased): "Pokemon would eat at the same table as humans," emphasizing more familial (brother/sister/mother/father) bonds. just my little tidbit there.

Just to give everyone the full reference of that particular bit containing that part Mooglizer is this.

"There once were Pokemon that became very close to humans.
There were once humans and Pokemon that ate together at the same table.
It was a time when there existed no differences to distinguish the two."

Myself, I believe is may but not totally support the idea that there were relationships beyond that of just friendship in the past at least. You just always have to take into account there could be 1000 different ways how such could be interpreted. All I can be sure of is that it is very well possible that love can exist been a pokemon and a human in that world and it would not be so much scorned as say if the similar thing happened in this world.

That's right, thank you.

The first line doesn't matter to me much, and the second one was my example, but the third... Hmm. Well, "no differences between the two" kinda does suggest a physical relationship... But, I still like to think my theory works, even if I was a bit mistaken about the degree of behavioral foundation ingrained into society.

Taboo but I'd expect it to be legal.

Per example: Beastality was legal in Washington until the Mr Hands incident.

I'm glad to find someone who isn't all "Ew, it looks like an animal, therefore its the same thing"

However, for certain species (e.g. Magnemite) a physical relationship of any level would be impossible - it doesn't evenhave any lips to kiss with and is classed as "Genderless" So...yeah...

  • In the literal translation of Sinnoh Folk Story 3, the myth originally referred to Pokémon and people marrying each other.

Huh. Perhaps an original species of half-pokemon which branched off after a long time, dividing into Pokemon and humans?

Thank you for directing me to that little bit of information.

"There once were humans and Pokémon that ate together at the same table."

Makes you wonder what happened there. I suppose back in Ye Olde Dayes a human family and their Pokémon were enjoying a meal, until the fine fellow at the far end of the table glared down his monocle, and angrily proclaimed "What is THAT doing at my table?!" while hurling a plate of piping hot potatoes.

I assume it was downhill from that moment.
