If you actually read the article, he split to join a think tank that would work closely with EA. My guess is that EA was likely taking away a bit of his control when it came to his games, so he left to get a bit more. I actually applaud him for finally leaving that wretched company.

I would say "^This." but there's a 25 character limit and that doesn't seem to be totally true, sadly.

According to this, EA still has sway and development rights over Will's games. He's just branching out, via this Stupid Fun Club, to other medias (movies, TV, etc.).

Such a shame he didn't ditch that vile monopoly-wannabe "game" company, though.

OFF-TOPIC:
that wretched company.
You are about 2 years late with that remark lol.
EA have changed their image so much lately and have put a lot of money into making new IPs (such as Dead Space- which is now an IP with an anime, comics and sequals/spin offs- and Mirror's Edge). Say what you want about the games, but it is EA who is putting the money into getting these products in the market and all over the media with advertising.

ON-TOPIC:
I always thought that was how Will Wright always worked. Well I was wrong, at least I'm wright now (ohhh my gawd, did I really type that lol).

Mirror's Edge was developed by DICE, not EA. EA published it. Also, look up SecuROM and EA. You will find out why I said that.

But that is besides the point. This break can only be good for Will. It will allow him to be more creative, which could mean some more amazing games.

Ah, I never said EA developed it, but it was EA who brought it to market. Most publishers won't touch new IPs and would rather publish an established IP or franchise. A small add in mags cost a lot of money, so I can't imagine how much money were gambled (I think that's a nice word lol) on the whole of marketing alone.

But I have to say- PC games by EA are still behind in that 2 year time frame :P - Don't mind secuROM- have you seen that to play any of the PC games online by EA, you need a EA account? Even if your not playing online, it asks you to log onto it before going into the game.

But come on- EA aint "wretched" haha. That's way to strong. They remind me of a stereotypical rock star. They done a lot of crazy and bad stuff in the past, now they are like trying to repent for it haha.

Didn't realise we were discussing Nintendo.

EA has produced its fair share of decent material in the past 2 years. You have MySims for the Wii and DS, Dead Space for PS3 and 360, Dead Space for Wii (different version), mirrors edge, spore etc.

And the fact of the matter is, Will's games will still be published by EA, he just has his own studio now.

SO this is a good thing? Well that sounds fine. But I dunno how good his games will sell when people see the label of
Developed by Stupid Fun Club
Published by EA Games.

I know i know it is developed by Wright but still I just cannot see it happening.
Because EA publish it, their logo will be prominent in adverts and on the game case. Stupid Fan Club will appear in the opening credits, back of case, end credits etc. Rarely on the Adverts though.

The word you're looking for is realize. And what companies has Nintendo bought out? As that's what companies do when they monopolize an industry.

As long as EA publishes this stale nonsense every year, I won't consider them a video game company.

And EA doesn't publish games. They buy out the companies that create them. Then they strangle the mentioned company until there's nothing left. I like how no one has mentioned Warhammer online in their list of recent EA good accomplishments. Oh right, that game went down the drain after EA monopolized some more bought out Mythic.

I wonder if Will Wright would be doing this if Maxis hadn't been taken in by EA. I wonder if he'd have already expanded into other media if he wasn't forced to create two The Sims sequels with $300 worth of expansion packs for the original and first sequel each.

SO this is a good thing? Well that sounds fine. But I dunno how good his games will sell when people see the label of

Not many consumers pay attention to development companies of video games. Half don't even look beyond the system it plays for (I'm sure some people are deluded enough to think that "Playstation 3" developed the video games). ...Some don't even look at system the game plays for. I weep for people in the Customer Service industry sometimes thanks to those people.

And then, yes, there are the people who will flock to it because it has Will Wright's name on it. Even if he's put "Stupid Fun Club" on it. Will Wright could possibly make a game called The Most Boring Game in Existence, But It's a Grass Growing Sim and people would buy it (not getting down on his games, love his work. It was just an example).

Realise can be spelled either way, check any dictionary. Sorry but I'm not going to spell it the American way over the British way.

You said "game" company, as if it didn't make games. That was enough to revert it to Nintendo. Nintendo also screwed Sony over (illegally may i add) for their own game. If that isn't wretched I don't know what is.

Point I was making is that EA actually made some real good games last year. nitnendo didn't.

Sorry, I grew up and was educated in America. It is said to only be realize here.

EA doesn't make any worthwhile games. All they pump out is the yearly sports titles, big movie tie-ins and games they force purchased companies to shove onto the market before completion.

Do you really want to say Nintendo had no good games last yet? The year when WiiFit (simple, yet a huge seller), Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Mario Kart Wii (proof you don't need to come out with a sports game every. single. year. to keep it interesting).

If if they screwed Sony over "illegally" then why does Sony have no lawsuit against them? What game was this? Is this going to be the argument over the 64DD (which wasn't a game, by the way)? And what about how Sony conveniently revamped their PS3 controller to include motion detection right after the WiiMote was unveiled?

Sony did have a lawsuit, and they won it. The very first playstations had SNES slots in as a result, however these were never publicly sold and only a few remain.

So Nintendo released the same racer they release on every platform? I can see how thats completely different to madden or Fifa.

Madden: Released every year. A small update to the previous year's version.

Mario Kart: Released once a platform. Completely redone from the ground up each version.

Take Madden '98 and Super Mario Kart to a game trade-in store. I guarantee the former will not even be worth the store having it in their computer and the latter will get you the usual couple bucks that a SNES game is worth.

This is a message board, a place were people can post those thoughts an opinions.
Both of you two had your say, so I think you should just chill out....

That's exactly what we were doing. Posting our thoughts and opinions. Though in a debate fashion. I said I thought EA was a vile company, and several people objected to that, so I had to back up my point. Simple forum discussion.

Annnnnyways, cutting back onto the topic, since that debate did pull us away from the original article.

Will Wright's supposed motivation for this Stupid Fun Club was branching into other areas beyond video games. What sort of things do you'll think he'll do with this?

A TV show where user creations pop up as guest stars? That actually sounds pretty interesting. It could come from either the Spore point of view (monsters, etc.) or Sims point of view (towns, cities, buildings, people, etc.).

I don't see action figures. Moreso toys like Legos or K'Nex. This is Will Wright after all. Nevertheless, if he does make some kid toys, I might end up buying them as an adult. Hah.
