This is a great reason why nuclear weapons should be reduced to minimum and only used in cases of insanely long wars with millions of deaths already. Reducing the number of nuclear weapons is a great idea in my opinion, less chances of all us dying.
Yes, but what about North Korea & their attempts to make an overseas nuclear bomb to hit us with?

Oh Mencey Mence.
They aren't trying to bomb us, they're exploring their rocket capabilities. They know that bombing such a large nation with an arsenal greatly outnumbering theirs would lead to complete destruction. Perhaps they just want it for self defense. One day a country could invade them - should they be powerless to defend themselves? No. Not every person in N. Korea is a communist who hates America - many want to get out. We shouldn't deny them their self defense rocket capabilities as long as they don't use it aggressively.

Indeed. You have to be suicidal to attack a country you know has way more weapons, citizens, army and allies than you. And, IHC, countries don't start wars for nothing, or just for the sake of killing. A COUNTRY won't attack the US unless it wants to be destructed.

Plus they are only sending rockets, no weaponry yet.

I have not heard of this.

If this proves itself true, then I will consider him and idiot in need of impeachment.

We can't afford to be losing any weapons when North Korea is trying to make Nuclear Weapons that can be reaching the United States.
Estimated time until North Korea launches a Nuclear Weapon that can hit the United States: 10 Years.
Actually, North Korea has nuclear weapons with a range that COULD allow it to target United States right now - Alaska, that is. No one's fretting, for the reasons that have already been mentioned. It would be suicide for a country to attack or threaten to attack the US with nuclear weapons.

After reading this thread, I have to say, I can see where REpublicans have gotten their votes from - misinformed (and therefore paranoid) individuals. Republicans/ conservatives' goals are dependent on the population being ignorant or gullible.

The gun problem is a microcosm of the nuclear weapon problem. It would be great if we could just get rid of them all, but then everyone would be defenseless against the people who do get their hands on one. The only solution to this, would seem to be for everyone to have a gun???!

And that is crazy. Every country will want to have a way to defend itself (which is why I think every country that wants nuclear weapons is entirely justified) if even one country has nuclear weapons. However, I think if the collective consciousness of our planet changes, and people learn to trust and love one another instead of obsessing over their own self-preservation, then we could get rid of nuclear weapons entirely. Until then, fear of death will motivate every country to possess nuclear weapons.

Ok man thats not cool. You went from talking about the topic to bashing Republicans to gun control!? While i would love to argue with you about this, this is not the place. Going off topic too much will get this thread deleted. so please send me a visitor message if you wish to debate.

Now, getting back to topic. In a perfect world we wouldn't need nukes. But it's not a perfect world, and in truth, our bombs and weapons are the ONLY reason we haven't been invaded in a hundred years. We lose the bombs, and we lose control.

And the Cold War begins again...

That is a ridiculous accusation - what I was talking about was the gun problem in the US being a microcosm of the global nuclear weapons problem. If that is the sort of things that gets threads deleted then, I guess I'll spend less time here.

If you're worried about the Cold war, then you would be bashing republicans too. McCain more or less said in his campaign that he wanted a resumption of the cold war. That anyone thinks Russia is threatening enough to merit another build up of arms means nothing more than that they're being fed bad information by people who want to take advantage of their dull wits.

man what makes you think im talking about russia? the soviet union broke up years ago...they are no longer a threat....im talking about the other communist countries. (china, north korea, ect) they are other countries with nukes. and while china may like us, if korea wants to go to war with us china is their ally before ours. and if china attacks us, we are screwed. but luckyly, so are they. their economy will fail if they attack us. so its really only north korea we have to worry about. and they REALLY dont like us very much...

And btw, stop bashing Republicans. You dont hear me talking about the spineless Democrats do you?

You guys are aware that the US has over five thousand warheads, right? That's enough to destroy the planet about 3 times over. Just a small bit unnecessary. Cutting by a third of a half wouldn't leave them unprotected or anything, it would just make the world a safer place, factoring in the fact that Russia has roughly more or less the same amount.

no mouse in this world would build a mouse trap. but a humans build nuclear weapons.

the more you destroy, the better it is..and I highly doubt that Obama would destroy the nuclear weapons of the us.

Of course he wouldn't. The second the US has no more nuclear weapons is the end of North America as we know it.

But let's take a minute to perform simple arithmetic. The US currently has over 5000 warheads at it's disposal. Cutting that number by a third leaves them with about 3000.

Put that into perspective: 3000 Hiroshimas, 3000 Nagasakis. Please read this.

The only thing that cutting the US' nuclear weapons cache along with Russia's does is make the world a safer place, and nuclear Armageddon a bit less likely.

You do realize that Russia is China and North Korea's strongest Ally. They may not be communist anymore, but they have ties with communist countries.

Just to let you know, it would be more like 300000 of each of those. Yes, the bombs are 100 times more powerful than they were 70 years ago. So yeah i just actually heard on the news that he is cutting about a third of the bombs. Thats not that bad. We still have more than China! But congress has to approve this first. So we will see. There are a lot of Democrats in congress now. Who knows.

that was indeed mean (to say it calmly) to bomb them after they hoisted the white flag.
and instead of blowing this world up and threat each other, they should start beeing diplomatic. this may sound..odd..but. Peace. the possibility is small..but thats what we need.

What are you talking about? Hirohito only surrendered eight days after the second nuke.

And yes, the warheads we have nowadays are more efficient than the ones of the '40s. And that goes to further reinforce the fact that 5000 nukes are completely unnecessary unless you want to bomb the sun or something.

I don't know which town it was, but the U.S. threw a bomb on one, and they surrendered before. it was meant for germany (lucky me), but they wanted to test it and threw it at one of the japanese towns.
Thats what I learned, I can be wrong, though. where do you have your knowledge from?

When Germany surrendered, Japan went on with the war in their own in a crazy suicidal way, so they used the bombs to end up with it once for all.

And I doubt the Congress will deny this plan if it has more Democrats than Republicans. As far as I'm concerned, Republicans would be the most likely ones to vote against it.

yeah...actually if the Emporer had not stepped in, Japan would have never surrendered and we wouldnt have Pokemon..
I'm sure even if the Japanese were still persistent on staying in the war, someone would have stepped in and caused a surrender.

That and the Americans had a third nuke set to be ready for about two weeks later.

And I don't learn all this through Wikipedia, in fact, most of my knowledge is from books and school (and video games). ;)

We are slightly deviating from the topic though.

Exactly. xD.

Back to the topic!
I'm sure it would benefit the entire world if USA and Russia cut back their Nuclear armaments. It would give both sides an equal way to rid of the world of super destructive weapons but still have enough for defense. (Unless of course Russia becomes a communist ***** again and Cold Wars us once again).

well...the cold war was a wonderful "mines bigger" contest between us and russia...and that was due to us making bigger and bigger bombs....so if we indeed are cutting down on bombs...then we no longer have the "bigger" one....and if russia backs out of the deal AFTER we destroy our bombs...we could be screwed....so how is this whole thing going to work? are we going to do it at the same time or what?

(Unless of course Russia becomes a communist b*tch again and Cold Wars us once again).
Chances of that happening after the failure the first time brought are insanely low.

Of course they would do it at the same time. And I seriously doubt Russia would promise something as big as that just to back up immediately, that would be a big treason to all the countries in the world. Remember that there are more countries that the US and all the "Evil guys".
