Personally I have always found myself to have a nasty habit of making my pokemon attack heavy. Usually in games i rush in and I must confess I am quick to get rid of growl, or rest. I always find, I'd rather cure my pokemon with items rather than their own attacks, considering Money isn't really an obstacle in pokemon. So to prevent myself from being stranded infront of a legendary in a battle which will obviously yeild no rewards, I prepare a special pokemon, who I use to to dump status related attacks on. I however am not interested in the slightest in Growl or any other Attack/Defense/Speed... boosting attacks, I'm pretty interested to hear what you guys are like. Are you the same, or do you love boost attacks, or maybe you're indifferent on the subject, whatever, tell me your views!

I used to be exactly like that, wow!

When playing through the actual game, it's nothing but cramming HMs and attack moves on your Pokémon. It's all a fancy bit of rock-paper-scissors. The computer throws out a Water type, you throw out something with a Grass/Electric move and it's done.

Competitive battling and things like the Battle Tower, however, take a good mix of defense and offense.

I honestly don't care about battling, or training, or breeding for that matter. I'm a Pokémon collector. If I see a Raticate that's ten levels lower than my Rattata I'll catch it and release my Rattata in a heart beat. Because I don't care about the strength of my "PC" Pokémon I generally care about getting as fast and as far into the game as possible.

So, for my main party or "Pokémon collecting Party," Attacks. Attacks attacks attacks. Occasionally, "Growth" or "Rest" are too much to pass up.. But I can blow through the game and achieve all of my own goals with no defensive moves.. Call me what you will. :D

Well... this is, as odd as it sounds, addicted from what I want to achieve in the (actual) game. Usually it wouldn´t make sense to carefully breed a fantastic Pokemon and give it your best TMs if you haven´t beaten the Elite Four yet - or at least that´s what I´m thinking.
When building up a team for competive play, nobody would likely train himself a team of nice-looking Pokemon with mighty attacks, like Fireblasting Gyarados or something - but would carefully breed one with fitting IVs, teach him Earthquake and Dragon Dance (in Gyarados´s case) and then starts EV-training. No doubt that there are some standard movesets and nearly nobody would deny the usefullness of a baton-passed Sword Dance.

The question is, if it make sense to act like a progamer while defeating campers, bug catchers and myrmidons of Team Rocket or Galactic. Usually you don´t have to do more than just beating harder and take hits better, which in fact means choose the right type and have your Pokemon´s level nearly on the same standard. Against hard enemies like the Elite Four, Red (GSC) or Steven (Emerald) it might be useful to think of supporting attacks like Sword Dance, Minimize or something else to change the balance of powers in your favour.
Of course, if you want to battle like that even in a normal fight, why shouldn´t you do so? Even if it would be some sort of overkill I think, it could be pretty funny.

Personally I try to keep up a good mix of that. If one of my Pokemon want to learn Sword Dance, there is no really good reason why I shouldn´t sacrifice one of its four attacks to boost up the other three. I save useful TMs (for example TM 76) to use them in competive play, but there is no reason why I shouldn´t use Dig or Rock Tomb ingame, cause there aren´t useful for "real" enemies, meaning Player vs. Player contests in the CP.

I don't do competitive battling, see no need for breeding and have no idea what EV's are. xD. So I am the attack type. I just rush through with my attack crazy pokemon.

Also, I chose my Poke's by their cuteness more than their strength. I just fail that way.

Competitive battling, I use pretty much all offence-based moves (including SD and stuff) and I have a hard time using defensive sets. It hinders me sometimes, though.

In-game, there's no need to use defence, and I don't.
Everything ends,
and that's always sad.
But everything begins again, too,
and that's always happy.

I remember the good ole days when I had no idea why pokemon had stats.
I thought "to make my team strong, I need to train them to level 100 and give
them 5-PP moves that do 120 damage!" (RBYG, GSC Phase) Then I began thinking about PP
and type coverage and I began glimpsing which pokemon had better stats. I still deleted
any move that wasn't an attack. I fail... right about... here. (RSE, FRLG Phase)
and then I finally learned the difference between physical and special moves thanks to D/P's
simplified attack icon. Then I started realizing the importance of stats. And how valuable
a sitrus berry is. and how cool are moves that don't damage pokemon. And the deeper,
more horrifying secret about the friendly term "Breeding". and Wi-Fi battles/Battle Tower.
And -shudder- EVs. And a bunch of other complicated and annoying stuff like the PokeRadar.
(D/P/Pt)

One day, I'll go back to the old days, where everything is sheerly attacking.
Forget that ugly growl! bye bye defense curl! See ya, hyper beam sand attack
.. er. WITHDRAW! (glares down turtwig)

I use a mix of attack and defense.. I'm pretty much known for status boosters in competitive battling. I.E. Swords Dance, Nasty Plot ect.
In the older days however I was extremely quick to rid moves like Growl. I found them useless since I never used strategy. But I mean, who really did in the old games?
Wifi didn't exist or anything.. so I guess strategy wasn't a necessity.
Nowadays I'm extremely big on status boosters, and a mix of attack and defense.

I try to make sure I have 2 defensive moves and 2 offensive moves I need balance because when you realize your moves are not quite up to par with the opponent in game or otherwise you need something to fall back on rest or recover or maybe even a stat booster my favourite is swords dance then hit them up with a highly critical move

I agree; getting rid of moves like Growl doesn't matter in game. You just need some Pokémon with four attacks and decent levels and you've beaten the game. It's no real challenge at all, any in game team works.

Competitive battling on the other hand is the complete reverse. But this belongs better in General, so I'll whiz it over there.

In-game, I'm all about attacking the opponent and just quickly getting through the game, However, once I started battling online, I started training Pokemon for it, and I realized that I was putting more attacks like Protect and rest on my pokemon, and I realized about EV traing and stuff like that.

I will admit, I rarely get a defensive Pokemon or teach my okemon defensive moves. I am quick to get rid of growl, and it is a bad habit of mine ever since Generation I. Even on the rare occasions I get pokemon with high defense, I still only give it offensive moves. XD

Im an all out attacker, in and out of competitive battling. I always use as varied type-pool as possible to obliterate any opposing force. You would seriously be surprised how often it works. Of course, when it comes to stat training, im all round; but to make up for it im slightly more defence orientated

I'm very attack heavy, although I like to keep one of my pokemon with a move like Poison Powder. Moves like Poison Powder have actually come in handy for me a lot, as it packs additional damage along with my attacks.

I too have fallen to the offensive curse. There are so many ways to murder with Choice Itemns and Life Orb. Gyrados does do both well though.
