I quite like those, and they are EXTREMELY good for a first time.
The first one reminds me of a combination of the Sii-Ruuk from Star Wars and the Charmander line.
I love the second one, I don't find it hard to make out at all, it's just a ghost wrapping himself in his cloak.
I wish I could make sprites from scratch.........

^ This one is 500 px long for sure >_>

I agree try to make better versions of the last one ok?

And apparently Graceful is still alive after a very long hiatus ♥

These are pretty good except for two things. One is minor and not needed to be changed. I think the palette of the first is really bright. The more serious one is the shading. I don't see any. It's up to you but I think that adding shading will make them look better. It also adds depth and makes them look 3-D. But for a first time they're really good.

You definitely need to work on your shading. As for the outlines, there's hardly any black, which makes it difficult to decipher when and where a line stops and ends. Speaking of lines, they seem choppy. They need to flow better. Be less pixely (which isn't a word. XP) and perhaps a bit thinner as well.

I see great potential, keep up the good work. =]

hi im kinda new to spriting so i just wanted to get ur opinion on my first two sprites ever

FLACIOUS:

First, the basics. These two have a sort of weak outline. Make it a little bit more definite, as well as making the light source a little more consistent.

Flacious's crest-flame is different in the two sprites. I suggest you pick the one on the back sprite, 'cause the regular sprite's just take away some of the coolness.

Last thing on Flacious: the left hand on the front sprite looks sort of fat and Lugia-esque. Make it look more like Halebird's, and It'll look pretty sweet.

HALEBIRD-EVOLVES FROM FLACIOUS:

I really like this guy. Same deal about the outline and shading.
Very nice sprites you got here, keep working on them and keep spriting!

You're customs aren't bad at all for a beginner. Actually, they're pretty good, despite lack of defined outlines. :3 but I think you may wanna cover the basics, first, so you have a good concept on basic techniques before going on too much further.
But, of course, when I started, I sorta jumped to customs first, too... eventually I learned how to recolor.

But that's just my recommendation.
