While searching on Youtube the other day, I found this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V025E_b5I4g

Basically this person is talking about how Hulu's merger with Youtube is causing user-generated content(the very purpose of Youtube) to take a back seat to licensed programming.(Movies, TV, Music). What this could mean is that it'll become progressively harder and harder for videos created by Youtube users to gain views, let alone be relevant whatsoever.(In fact, it's already started with most viewed, and discussed videos being overtaken by partner-only content.) People seem to be accusing Google, (The current owner of Youtube) of using the site as a huge ad revenue hub. What is everyone's opinion on this matter? Discuss.

so your sayin youtube is CHANGING?! WHAT?!!! WTH?!!!! how are people supposed to look at my videos now..... their gonna kick me off youtube :'( i hate google now. >:-(
What people are speculating is that Google is shoving off all User content to the side in order to draw more attention to TV shows and movies in order to gain money from sponsers. They might not kick you off, but basically, whoever's in charge won't care about what Users contribute as long as they play the consumer and watch more advertisements.

Just look here:

It seems that ever since Google took control, everything that Youtube stood for has steadily been rendered to nothing. Also, if you look on the front page, the only videos that aren't partners of Youtube are the ones in the Subscriptions and Recommended for you boxes. Keep in mind that you have to PAY to become a Youtube partner and thus, gain exposure on the front page.

So basically, as long as someone has money, no matter how good their videos are, they get attention. However, even the partners could be brushed aside in due time.

Skateboarding dog taking a backseat to things that are actually entertaining? What is this madness?

It's really not that big of a deal. I heard YouTube is changing their format soon anyway; all they really have to do is have one section with user videos and one section with partner content and it'll fix everything, I'd say.

This is just stupid. Youtube is meant for users to post their own videos, not watch TV shows. If they start to do that too much they will lose all of their viewers, and advertising there will be pointless. Rather than changing the site, they should make an entirely new one.

Bah, doesn't Google get enough money from their sponsors?
People are greedy these days/time/era.

Well, if that happens, then which one would users go watch? Entertainment made by professionals or a guy trying to dance in a dress?

youtube has gone downhill ever since google bought it.. it used to be THE place to see cool user made vids.. not anymore. If youtueb hasn't removed, muted, or blocked them then they are most likely some big corp's vids or EXTREMELY popular (1,000,000's of views).

The little guy, that's you and me, will be and has been slowly removed from the site.

Hulu also USED to be a cool place to find and DL various shows and user generated video, but it too caved to BIG MEDIA. Now all you can do it watch a lame flash version. so sad.

we who spend many hours/days making our AMV/GMVs and other videos don't matter it seems and we want the TRUE youtube back so we have a place to showcase our hard work.

I already have a choice between watching television or user-created videos online, and I have for years; turns out, I still watch both. I'd be all over this if there was something to be all over. I hate it when businesses abuse their power (especially Microsoft), but this isn't abusing power, it's taking the next step in digital distribution. The reason it's profitable is because people want this; people like me. I don't have access to television at the moment, so I watch 100% of television shows online. All YT is doing is making it so I don't have to go to the ends of the earth to get my TV, just like Hulu did before it.

What's so sacred about user-created videos anyway? I swear, you look away for one second and everyone thinks competition is a bad thing. If you make your videos entertaining, they'll be found, people will link to them, and they'll get popular. This new direction has no bearing on the process at all.

Honestly, If Youtube wants to make these changes, I don't really care anymore. We'll have to wait and see if things get bad for user-generated content. If it does, then i'll simply leave and search another site to fit my needs. Who knows, maybe soon someone will make a new Youtube. And hopefully it won't go through the same stuff that Hulu has gone through.

But I shouldn't make the mistake of jumping into conclusions until we see what happens.

I'm pretty sure the changes in the OP video were just rumored changes that were supposed to happen a few days ago. Nothing has happened.

And even if it did, so what? God forbid there be some content on Youtube that is actually worth watching for anyone other than the people who create the videos. If you don't want Youtube to mute your goddamn AMVs then maybe you should be investing your time into making something that actually requires some shred of originality and creative thinking.

My friends and I are already considering making a new website like youtube. It is clear that Youtube will become a Myspace style site. A very small community that will not be payed attention to, and the rest of the site will consist of payed by publicity that is supposedly "Talent"

The reason people liked youtube was because it was community based.

It needs to get prioritized or it will die like every other Image-Board (video board in this case).

It's just that, this is what you do. What about the other millions of Youtube viewers. What would you think they'll do if your idea does happened?

I don't buy the idea that adding commercial television will stop people from watching user-generated content. If they're not like me, then they have television sets to watch their TV, and yet they still watch YT videos. This is the same as what's always happened; everyone always thinks new forms of entertainment will kill the old, and it never happens. There are always going to be people who watch user-generated content, just as there will always be people who watch TV, listen to music, and read books. As long as there's the demand, someone will step up and deliver.

Youtube may not survive. People just have to realize this.
YouTube might not, but something else will pop up in its place.
