I personally like domes; The Milennium Dome (RIP), the Dome Fossil, Welcome To The Pleasure Dome, even the Technodrome from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I think a Dome Appreciation Day, or "Domesday" could be very beneficial =)

But in seriousness, I take all these predictions til the "end of ze world" or Doomsday etc with a pinch of salt. We're going to die eventually, might as well make the most of it while we're still alive and not waste time making pointless predictions ^-^

It's a sad time when I see things like this and think, What? Again?. The world seems to always be on the brink of destruction. I say enjoy your life because it could end tomorrow or in ten years.

December 21st, 2012...I'll probably be enjoying the holiday season with my family at home. ;D

Exactly. Life is fragile, and you should simply live for the moment without worrying about when the world is going to end or when you'll die, because it could happen at any moment.

"Domesday"...lol. Oh no, not Domesday!!!!

But seriously, if you're thinking about the date 2012, there are a great deal of misconceptions about it. Even though the date has made its way into pop-culture and urban myth, which would usually make one think that it is a big lie, I do believe that there is something to it.

I visited a shaman who was trained in Peru and told me a good deal about it (when I asked). He said that the Mayans were the masters of time and astronomy, and that it was not a doomsday prophecy. Rather, it signifies a change in the collective consciousness, at least for beings on this planet (whatever that means), but possibly throughout this galaxy. Somehow, this change is caused by the alignment of the cuff of the Milky Way with the path the sun takes (the ecliptic), which, sure enough, will happen on exactly on December 21, 2012. To a lot of people, this means it's the end of one age and the beginning of another.

Some people say the transformation of consciousness involves people realizing that space-time is an illusion, so the date is sort of like a "cat's out of the bag" thing.

Eh, because the Mayans were proficient at foreseeing the future with astrological signs and whatnot. They actually predicted their own demise, which adds some significance to it. But that was only when their calendar ends (which I've joked that it was because they ran out of room on the stone), and not a blatant doomsday prediction. Oh, and it's not like it was a date made by some run-of-the-mill internet user who picked a day out of a hat.

Personally, I don't care about death or the end of the world. What matters to me is here and now.

sad thing is that is exactly one month and one day before i turn 21....which means ill just make up for time i wont get now!!

But seriously, the Mayans are the ones that predicted this. It was something that was once tossed aside and laughed at. However, this was about the same time that a black US president was an insane theory as well. All I know is that the Mayans suddenly vanished into thin air one day. The way I see it, if a nation disappears off the face of the Earth right after saying that they knew when the world was gonna end is kind of eerie to me. Especially considering the fact that this nation was more advanced technologically and especially mathematically than any other nation in the world. And they just vanished? Sounds a bit weird to me. But I guess we should just wait and see. All I know is that I will be all kinds of ****ed up that night...just in case:)

Lol.
Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I understand were you are coming from, but comparing the end of the world to the chance of a black president is just stupid.
Yes, it was unlikely, but more likely than the world just ending...

This is all going to be so overly hyped, then the date rolls around and people will go crazy trying to save themselves. I will laugh if that date comes and goes and nothing happens...

That's what would happen if you listen to rumors. The Mayans made a calendar that ended on December 21st, 2012 beacause:

-They had too much time on their hands.

And when they got to that point...

-They were probably too lazy to continue.

Me and the girl I really like made a pact that we'll spend that day in the pub ahahahaha.

The date is significant, however I think it'll just be the end of what we know as our lifestyle, my personal theory is that the banks will collapse either next year or 2011, UK and USA will enter war with Iran, China and Russia thus ending in a nuclear holocaust. Those who survive will have to carry on and start again.

The Egyptians, Christians, Jews, Nostradamus, many famous astrologists and native american tribes all place the end at that date too.

Uh, no. When the Spanish conquistadors came to central America, the Mayans were wiped out by them, along with the Aztecs and whatever other civilizations where there. Gunpowder killed them off, they didn't "just vanish".

Guys, isn't it the Incas that disappeared? They disappeared way before the Spanish came... anyhow.

I knew the domes were going to attack. There's no way we can trust them. Every tower, building and church must be de-domed before 2012 OR WE WILL ALL DIE.

I really don't care. If we are all wiped off the face of the planet, that's what happens. I don't want hear about how Notre Damus played "seer" and why we should listen to him, or how since calandars end on that day that it actually makes some kind of difference. There's no scientific, sound proof that the world is actually going to be destroyed or even logical evidence to support Notre Damus's or the ancient's methods. He did NOT use science, therefore we can conclude nothing. There's no way I can conclude whether tomorrow a homocidal maniac mutilates me alive or that I will find ten grand on the street. We cannot rely on prophecies unless they are a hypothesis backed by accepted scientific truths (such as the weather).

This out of all of the posts here makes the most sense. I've always been told that 2012 is a doomsday, but I never felt that the reset of a calandar would truely be the end of the world. (This is why I think you are amazing, Richard Wagner).

And if it does happen, then I can just suck it XD

*Nostradamus.

PJV, with all due respect, I am basing my theory on the economic crisis and current affairs of the world coupled with countless predictions from countless ancient groups. On the 21st of December 2012 the sun will appear to rise from the centre of the sky, not the east, due to how we'll be positioned.

I for one welcome our dome-shaped overlords.

Oh... you mean Doomsday! Sorry about that.

On a more serious note, I doubt anything in particular will happen on that date, besides a bunch of crazies going nuts in the streets. That's not saying we won't nuke each other into oblivion before that date, though (we're certainly capable of it at the moment).

In other news, I find it quite ironic that some of my friends are buying into this, seeing as how it's based on a religion none of them practice.

The fact that it is based solely on religion, not just necessarily ONE religion, bothers me. There is absolutely NO scientific evidence.

First, where is his evidence? What scientific proof did he come up with to predict the end of the world like the weather? Was his theory provoked by someone? Something? A particular book, for example *hint hint*.

The economic crisis and foreign affairs are caused by logical means, not predetermined by someone who lived hundreds of years ago. I don't care if he predicted "right", because most predictions are so sketchy that you can easily conclude they would eventually happen. For example, something about "There would be a great massacre of Jews". Well, considering they weren't well looked upon in the first place, it wouldn't be that much of a surprise to see they would eventually become a scapegoat to Nazi Germany. It makes more sense to think that 2012 is more of a change than a destruction, unless some idiot really wants to initiate something like that from all the urban legends as Twocows stated previously.

The current economic and foreign crisis is caused by the chaos produced by deciet, corruption, malicious intentions, hate and manipulation. Those are all fragments of human nature, whether we want to admit it or not. Also, the economic crisis was also hastened by lack of regulation (not that I'm a Socialist - however, there has to be more regulation than the very wishy-washy system we currently have in place).

Secondly, how the hell can you say the sun will rise in the "center" of the sky? The four cardinal directions have no "center" when refering to the horizon. Anywhere can be the center depending on where you look.

Thats what astrologists are saying, it'll appear to be coming from the centre.

I didn't say he predicted the economic crisis or anything along those lines. Just how we're going now, I wouldnt be surprised if we started war next week.

Also his "evidence" or rather our evidence of him being trustworthy is his accurate prediction of the great fire of london, near accurate prediction(s) of natural disasters and somewhat noteworthy predictions mentioning a prussian tyrant hister. In those days Germany Was prussia, and Hister isn't a far cry from Hitler. You're right, a lot of it is vague, but I don't blame people for believing what he said.
