Spoiler:
There's a reason "Lassie" was a tearjerker.

Heroic animals amaze us every time, whether they're saving other animals or living up to the role of "man's best friend," like Stanley, a puppy who helped save a young Washington boy's life.

Nathaniel Teafatiller, a two-year-old from Onalaska, WA, survived a cold night in the woods near his home thanks to his four-month old dog. Earlier this month, after his father had dozed off on the couch, Nathaniel wandered out of the house with the pup by his side. When the toddler's distraught mother heard the news, she feared the worst. "Everything horrible ran through my mind," Ashley Teafatiller told local affiliate King 5 News.

But at 11 p.m. that evening, Nathaniel was found near a creek about a mile from his home. Dressed in only socks and a t-shirt, he was curled up next to Stanley. Rescuers believe that warmth from the dog's body helped Stanley battle the cold and dampness.

For the original article.

I just had to post this because I thought it was adorable. Animals never cease to amaze me.

How could the kid be dumb? It says he's only two years old...

Anyways this shows how smart animals could be in situations where they should be. Animals care about each other in the time of danger, even when the two animals are hated amongst each other. Obviously this is why we call dogs a 'mans best friend'. They treat us kindly and help us survive in the worst occasions.

Why is the dog amazing? I know it followed the kid and provided it with warmth, but that's not exactly something the dog did intentionally. If Stanley barked for help or woke up the father, that'd be something, but no. Sure, it's cool that he followed the kid, but it was more luck that saved him, not Stanley.
'It's been a prevalent notion. Fallen sparks. Fragments of vessels broken at the Creation. And someday, somehow, before the end, a gathering back to home. A messenger from the Kingdom, arriving at the last moment. But I tell you there is no such message, no such home -- only the millions of last moments . . . nothing more. Our history is an aggregate of last moments.'

Aw, this is so cute~ :3

Who knows how far away the creek is from the boy's home. If the dog did decide to go wake up the father, then the boy would probably freeze to death.

The boy is two years old, right? A human that young aren't build for mild-cold weathers.

If you're not going to bother reading it thoroughly, than I'm not going to bother explaining it. However, I will say this: If the dog had left the child in anyway, the child would've died.
I did read the post thoroughly. Stop assuming things.

It was luck that the dog didn't leave. Nothing else.

Am I the only one who reads this and wonders: "What happened to the dad?" Geez, he must have gotten a talking to from his wife and the authorities, but I don't know the specifics about what happened. Was the door closed, and the child escaped, or?

Anyways, it's always nice to hear a potentially bad situation work out well.

You know what? This is the most adorable story I've heard in a while. <3
I'm not dog expert, but I couldn't imagine the puppy leaving the child's side. I know if I was lost in the woods, my dogs wouldn't run away. That's just how dogs seem to be.
Doll, you make them feel so small
AND THEY LOVE IT!

hey you never know the child may have clung to the puppy and wouldn't let it go. i know i would cling to a warm puppy as hard as i could if i was naked in the middle of the woods in freezing temperatures.

This a pretty amazing story. Although, the child wouldn't have gotten lost in the first place if the dad was watching him.
thats right! let this be a lesson to all parents: DRESS YOUR CHILDREN IN THE WINTER!....or at least put underware on them:D

I did read it. The dog kept him warm, so what? Like Rek said, had the dog woken up the father, or alerted the father or stopped the child then I'd be impressed.
