If you were to put steampunk, a bit of anime, and some arcade-dogfighting into a blender and put it on frappe, the resulting smoothie would no doubt be Sky Gunner.

So as you can see, it's for the PS2, it was released around 2002 if I remember. The plot follows three "gunners" who own little personal fighter planes and take on jobs to take down any threat to the little island town of Rive...and they get paid! One day, Ventre, a criminal genius sky pirate sort of fellow with a flair for the arts and a host of tiny minions called Poulets decides to heist the Merveilleux, a combined Giant Airship-Ballroom-Art Expo.

It's already sounding pretty wacky huh? Ventre's plans get increasingly daring, from towing the Merveilleux away with giant "Air-Towships" to ripping a museum right out of the ground. When all is said and done though, the campaign is really quite short, but you'll love it if you're a high-score-nabbing play-your-fingers-to-the-bone arcade kinda gamer. There's a bit of stuff to unlock, like new storylines to play with new gunners, and it's surprisingly tough to do so. You'd be amazed how easy it is to actually get a score in the negative hundred-thousands just from firing your machine gun too much...I guess taxpayer money is going to waste on the ammo or something.

So, here's hoping you play it some day, if you find it, it'll no doubt be a cheap buy. :D
