On the Windows Vista version of Paint how do you post sprites without the background appearing? Whenever I try to whiten out the background it messes up the image.

Post sprites in MSPaint? Could you please refrain your question?

If you mean removing and/or enabling transparency; you're out of luck. Microsoft Paint does not support transparency. Try editing the image in a program such as Paint.NET, GIMP or Adobe Photoshop (trial).

Paint doesn't support alpha channels, as has already been said. If you want the background to be transparent, you'll have to use one of the programs Candy listed; any one should get the job done (Paint.NET is probably the easiest to use, though I prefer GIMP).

If you want to know how it can overlap other pictures/images, here it is:

You need to select "select" (the cursor thingy). Beneath the standard-forms there will appear two boxes. You can recognise them at their springy colors in the gray backround. Simply select the not-selected one.
