Trainers

Spoiler:
I've been spriting for years, but it was only last month that I gave
Pokemon trainers a try. These are all for Pokemon Dissension, so no touchie.

edit: the majority of these are outdated, so if you see me asking opinions, they've probably been resolved.

Skyler and Kelly, Dissension's playable characters. They're both
Frankensteinian (that's worth twenty-two points in Scrabble!) creations
made from existing sprites, but they're not bad for a first try, right?

My first trainer sprite from scratch, [name withheld] is your rival in Dissension.
With a green shirt and droopy white hair, he's the opposite of the protagonists.
He turned out better than expected, so I decided to do the rest of
Dissension's sprites from scratch as well.

This Pizza Boy is... well, he delivers pizzas, what else is there to say? His
body was drawn from scratch, and the bike is taken from a Triathlete.

When she's not taking pictures of Pokemon battles, this Photographer
cleaves boulders with her massive HairBlade™! By now, you must see
the emerging pattern. I have trouble with hair, can't draw feet, and-
you should have noticed this by now- I don't like to draw hands.

In G/S/C and D/P, the Officers are just so... serious, menacing.
I wanted to take them in a different direction with this "rookie cop" version.
The shading on this one is just horrible... it's a work in progress.

In R/S/E and D/P, the male School Kid is depicted as a little brainiac..
I wanted to go for something a bit different. I know that his leg is messed
up, and that neither of them have great shading... I'm not done with them
yet. The girl is actually the reason I created this thread... can anyone give
me advice on her shoes? I've looked at the shoes of sprites with legs in
similar positions, but.. I don't know. Maybe I should make the feet
more narrow and give her sandals...

Any comments, criticism, or moral outrage (over a pizza boy riding
a bicycle) you may have are welcome!

Pokemon

Spoiler:

I'm currently working on a project which has no original Pokemon, so this section probably won't get much attention, but I felt compelled to make it anyway. A few of these are really old, from a competition in which you had to guess which Pokemon parts went into their creation, so they're kind of hastily thrown together. I really like the designs of the ones I'm posting, so I'll probably remake them from scratch eventually.

Spoiler:

This section is for any other random, non-Pokemon things I make.
Most of these will be several years old.

Zelda
These are from a Legend of Zelda fangame I've had in the works for a
few years... I want to finish writing and planning the entire game before
recruiting anyone to help, so all I have for now is six hours worth of events
and dialog, some clear plans for about five more hours, and these sprites.

Link, the hero of the story! He hails from a jungle village, where
everyone lives in giant hollowed-out gourds that I decided not to
finish until I had more of the game's story done. I actually have
around two hundred frames of animation for him, somewhere.

Here's an outdated version of the map... that's pretty much all I have to say about it.

The Minish Cap has Gorons, but no Goron Elder, so I took the normal Goron
sprite and edited it into one, based on official art of the Goron Elder from
Oracle of Ages. The sprite of the same Goron Elder from the aforementioned
GBC Zelda game is on the left, for reference.

The Minish Cap has no Zoras at all, so I decided to make them myself.
Back then, I wasn't very confident in my ability to sprite from scratch, but
I could modify pretty much anything into pretty much anything else. They
aren't great, but like most of the things involved with this project, I just
haven't gotten around to finishing them yet.

My first ever sprite revamp! I've never really been interesting in revamping
sprites, but I required a King Zora, and the one from Oracle of Ages was
already the perfect size.

My version of the classic Zelda enemy, the River Zora (left) and Rils, a
half Zora half River Zora girl who plays an important role in the story. As
you can probably tell, neither is completely finished.

A remake of the Great Maku Tree from Oracle of Seasons, very clearly
unfinished. Before you ask, yes, I do always leave a trail of the pieces
that went into my sprites. It makes it easier to revert to earlier versions
of the sprite, if I decide that I don't like how it's going or something.

Experimental, haniwa-like faces. They look pretty creepy... I actually
decided to base a boss which poses as a good guy on the last one.

This is from an experiment in character creation engines... This is the set
for female Kokiri. There are six hair styles available in five colors, six faces,
four bodies, and three hair accessories, for a total of around three thousand
unique combinations. Click here to see what they all look like in one place.

I have similar sets for male Kokiri, Gorons (all male), Gerudo (all female),
and both genders of Hylians, Sheikah, and Zoras, all of which can make
around 28,000 sprites. For the record, I have no intention (at this time,
anyway) of making a Zelda MMORPG.

Wow, I think these are really great! Loving whats done so far. Definitely keep it up. :)
In future make sure you post something constructive, like you know, what it says in the rules.

Arghh completely forgot to comment the sprites in my RRAAAGGEEE.

The school boy(s) look out of proportion and a little top heavy, the rival also looks a tad odd, but I can't put my finger on why. Otherwise really good stuff, i especially like the protagonists. I think you really have a knack for shading too.

I probably won't be posting many more trainers, and if I do, they'll be my versions of existing classes, like Miners and Bug Maniacs. I want to protect Dissension's integrity, y'know? Avoid possible spoilers and such.

Heh... Griffody's legs are like that because its base is Espeon.. and I put the head where Espeon's tail was, and the tail where Espeon's head was. I didn't want to change the body too much, as it was for an easy round of the Amalgamon Challenge. I don't remember what the tail or claws are from (Dratini and Sneasel?), but it clearly has a Stantler head, Pidgey wings, and a Taillow beak. When I get around to remaking it, it should look generally the same (beaked goat-like head, etc.), but the parts will be from scratch, so won't look like they're Frankensteined from other sprites.

Cafickle is actually supposed to be a baby form of Tauros and Miltank... I made it for one of my tutorials, but I haven't decided how to finish it yet. Its body is very plain, so maybe I'll add some sort of markings...

To answer your question, though, Dissension began life as a FireRed hack... As you can see in the image below, the playable characters, rival, and Professor Oak all had larger sprites used during the game's introduction sequence. That's what the large character sprites you see are.

Look good your fakemon have very nice concepts. The shading on most of them is fine. I really like the Dissensions heros they look great (Thought they were team magma members though) love the colors (Red is my fave color).Your scratch looks pretty good however it appears a little bulky (The rival) maybe slim his shoulders down slightly. The pizza boy is amazing I like that, I really like that its so unique Its the first pizza boy sprite Ive seen EVER. As for the school kids. As you stated the boys leg is off. To make it look right you would only have to make his right leg bend slightly. Also the girls feet. Sandals are a pain to sprite trust me I had a time remaking one of my trainers in a tank, shorts and sandals it was ARGHH. But it is possible and won't take long its just annoying and I think she would look great with sandals. The photographers hair just needs to be corved and maybe add another strand to her bangs. Now to mention your shading on the trainers. It does need a bit of work but I dont think it needs a whole lot I feel that in an hour you would probably have them done to satisfactory standards. Colors are really nice as I stated. Keep up the awesome spriting man =)

Well they all look great. I forgot to mention the officer in my previous post. So since all post should be constructive im going to mention it in this post. Ilike how you did take the edge off of prior officer sprites that adds to it. However the hat is a little awkward it needs to be widened just a hair. I say look at som other officer sprites and acurately judge about how many pixels need to be added. Also That sprite has inspired me and I think I may make an Officer Jenny and Nurse Joy Battle Sprite. Thanks for the inspiration.

Hah, I saw your Tsurugi in serebii's fakemon.=p

But anyways, I like them, but your shading ( Mostly on cobaltile, indigon and griffody) needs work.=p The outlining on griffody is too light. And the other two's wings aren't that well shaded.

But other than that, I love these, I probably wouldn't be able to do these myself.=p

Ah... those sprites were all made for a competition, in which people had to figure out which Pokemon sprites were used to make the Amalgamon. So, they're all just parts cropped and slightly edited from Pokemon, without the shading altered. That's why some of them say that they need to be remade or overhauled... they're just things I threw together, which have grown on me to the point of warranting being remade from scratch.

These are pretty cool but the Furnary looks too much like Moltres. (yes I know you said most of those were splices)

Your Zora sprites don't really look like zoras at all imo. I think they should have more white (or maybe it's just a really really lite blue?) with a little bit of blue (they sorta looked like that in OOT and MM). The sprites sort of just look like strange aliens. On the other hand, considering there are no zoras in the particular game you named I could understand that may not be as easy to create a proper zora from scratch with a sprite that small and for that game style. Also, the extension on the head looks like a badly positioned tail.

Other than that I think you're talented.

And a simple answer to a simple question. What were the big sprites. I now see that those were for the introduction. The backward facing Gary is quite well done. (Those weren't ripped right?) However, the shading on the grass makes it look entirely flat. Try to 'puff' it up.

I think you need to work on the designs of your pokemon a little bit better though only because they seem unproportional.
...I.. you.. have you read any of the other posts in this thread?

The backward facing Gary is quite well done. (Those weren't ripped right?) However, the shading on the grass makes it look entirely flat. Try to 'puff' it up.
That was an example of the sprites used in FireRed/LeafGreen... Yes, those are actual sprites from the games. I was using it to show you an example of the larger sprites. See the big sprite of Blue/Gary, compared to the battle sprites of him? The ones I made serve that same purpose.

Regarding whether they were ripped or not... I mean, seriously? Seriously? It says "Blue (a.k.a. Gary) from PKMN Fire Red ripped by LF." right on the image!
