Mewtwo was created solely for battling. It is only natural that it is the strongest. Even now, with equally strong pokemon - such as Groudon, Lugia, Ho-oh etc. - Mewtwo is STILL quite the pokemon!

Seems like it's a close one between Mew and Mewtwo. Mewtwo, you would think, would have the upper hand, but, really, its highest stat is its Special Attack and it doesn't learn a lot of special moves. The ones it does learn have their damage halved by Mew's type. Mew, on the other hand, learns Nasty Plot, which it can use to power up AncientPower, a move that is of normal effectiveness against Mewtwo. Mewtwo's moves have very little effect on Mew overall, whereas Mew is able to have a normal effective move against Mewtwo. Both of these beings completely wipe-out the Legendary Birds, so, in conclusion, I think Mew would be the winner. See? Stats aren't everything.

By definition of your poll, Mewtwo wins. It's not an opinion poll but a poll of facts. Moltres and Articuno...suck... but Zapdos is rather good.

Mew is alright, but despite also being in the uber tier, it's nowhere near as strong as Mewtwo, despite the movepool advantage.

Mewtwo. Amnesia boosts Special, which at the time meant Special Attack AND Special Defense.

Also, Psychic-types back then had no real weaknesses: Dark-types hadn't been invented, the only damaging move Ghosts had was Lick (Night Shade doesn't take advantage of weakness), and I'm pretty sure that Bug wasn't strong against them either. Even if it was, their only damaging moves were Leech Life and Twinneedle, and those moves are wielded by half-Poison types.

Even today, Mewtwo's base Special Attack is absurd (154?!), and the Gen IV physical/special split only gave him access to special Shadow Ball and other coverage moves.

tl;dr- Mewtwo is the strongest. /thread

Obviously, the movepool advantage is what allows Mew to overpower Mewtwo.
Unless, of course, you take TMs into account. Mew can learn more TMs, but Mewtwo has the stats to use his better.

I had to go with Mewtwo...especially with Blizzard in G1, before they nerfed it. 90% accuracy for a 120 power attack=destruction. Practically everything had Blizzard on Pokémon Stadium.

Personally I believe Mew is the winner here I mean, it can learn every move and although in the first games that wasn't completely useful but having the perfect moveset is fun.
