First things first...yes, the title is: TBA Once Finished. That obviously means I'm not going to post a title until someone either gives me a good idea I can build off, or I just pick something that best suits the...story once it's done. Which hopefully it gets done XD

Alright so this isn't my first story or fanfiction, but this is the first time I've ever posted a story on PC :) The story will be posted chapter by chapter, seeing as I think that might be easier for both myself and the reader to find a good place to end or begin. Also, this is set up strictly for word, so I'd rather not people tell my my paragraphs are too short because of how they look. Trust me, they're a lot longer set to normal margins and stuff :) Anyway...hope you enjoy! Please review and tell me what I might need to improve, etc...

This story is rated PG-15: Violence, Possible slight sexual themes (nothing big though, haha), swearing, and all that jazz...Huh, I didn't know PC had a filtering system...well, the worst one here is the F-word, but that won't show up too much.

Chapter 1: The Beginning of the End

A yawn escaped my lips as I stared out the foggy car window. My friend, Sarina, was sitting in the driver’s seat. We were heading for our last day of high school. I stayed silent, fully awake but still yawning. I could feel that I was very, very anxious about this—going into the real world and all. Sarina looked fairly calm, so I wondered if she was nervous or not as well. Then again, over the years it had gotten to where I couldn’t read her anymore, but I pushed that aside from the front of my mind to the back.

“This is it, huh?”

“Yup…well, and graduation,” Sarina said, quickly adding the last bit. I noted her brown eyes seemed a bit tighter than normal, but other than that she seemed alright.

She’ll probably get nervous on the day of the ceremony, I thought, because I know that I will be. I let out a breath and closed my blue eyes. Moments later I reopened them and looked at the familiar sight of the school campus.

Sarina and I simply sat there in silence for a few moments. I honestly had no idea what I could say, and I wondered if she knew what to say as well. I felt a sad frown tug at the corner of my lips.

Once you got out of high school, it was an almost sure fact that you barely ever kept in touch with your friends. I thought of all of my friends, and was immediately saddened by this impending fact of doom. My friends’ faces flashed momentarily in my head before I stopped it. I don’t want to get all worked up or something, I thought to myself.

After a few moments of an almost uncomfortable silence, there was a knock on my window. I jumped and when I looked out I was surprised to see Chad standing there in the murky fog of the new morning. A wide grin instantly replaced the frown on my face. Sarina got out of the car, and I got out on my side. I grabbed my backpack from the floorboard and then hugged Chad tightly. He replied and then grinned when he pulled back.

“Aw, I feel so special that you missed me after just a day,” Chad said with a wide grin on his face.

“Yeah well,” I said with a small and simple shrug.

I peered up at him, and simply observed his features. He had dimples when he grinned this wide—something that I loved about him. He had long, curly blonde hair that fell to a bit above his shoulders. Chad’s hair had actually been a light brown color, but I had gone with him when he went to dye it. He claimed it had something to do with his bad boy image or something. His eyes were a fairly bright blue color. He was a pretty tall guy. Last time I had checked, Chad was about six foot two or so.

Chad normally wore darker clothes. Today he was wearing black jeans, a blue shirt that had some band logo on it, and a black leather jacket. As long as I could remember Chad owned a leather jacket. He said that it was one of his most prized possessions and that he’d never let anything happen to it. Somehow, that was just something I couldn’t help believe and find truth in those words. When Chad said something as a promise, he would keep it. It didn’t matter if that promise was to go to the end of the Earth. Chad was just that type of guy.

Sarina stood next to one of the other seniors that I didn’t know. She had her long black hair in a braid that fell to a few inches above her very upper thigh. Her eyes were a chocolate brown, which I noted was pretty sweet. She had tan skin, but it wasn’t exactly the darkest tan skin I’d ever seen. Sarina often wore darker colors as well, but she had more of a variety than black, blue, and more black.

She had been my best friend up until about the beginning of senior year. We had begun to drift apart then, and it almost seemed like nothing I could do that would bring us closer together again. I decided that maybe it wasn’t exactly worth it, even though I felt terrible and I really missed her as a best friend. We had been born around the same days, and it just seemed like we were almost sisters sometimes. Oh well, I supposed that things did change.

“Do you know what we’re doing today?” I asked Chad as we walked in the building. I saw him spare a glance at Sarina to make sure she wasn’t going to come with us, before opening his mouth and continuing on walking.

“No, but we’re probably not going to do much of anything. I mean, even our finals are over and stuff,” Chad stated with a shrug. He tossed his arm around my shoulders and hugged me practically against his side. I allowed him to, leaning in to the half embrace.

It wasn’t like we were boyfriend and girlfriend or anything, we were just really close. Honestly it was like something I couldn’t explain. When I was younger I would have never imagined ever being this close to a guy. As I grew older, I found that I liked being closer to people and wanted to have hugs and all of that more often. Maybe it was human nature. I wasn’t sure, but I knew I liked it. When Chad came along, I immediately found a friend in him. We had just gone so well together, almost like he was a part to a puzzle piece. Like the final piece or something.

Sure, a lot of people had talked at first. It had been the same way with me and my friend Hunter though, so I ignored it. Many people had thought we were either together or “****ing each other in the gym locker rooms”. It was pretty ridiculous. I was glad when I found that Chad either ignored it, or stood up for us. Although I didn’t really like afterwards when Chad had to go to detention, but oh well.

We stopped at my locker first. I grabbed all of the stuff I would be needing today—which was basically my backpack and whatever I had in it, but I wanted to make sure I hadn’t left anything in my locker—and then we went to Chad’s locker. His locker was virtually empty, except for his backpack. He grabbed it and slipped the strap on his shoulder. We both had the kind of backpacks with only one strap that hung from your shoulder. They were both black, but I knew they had been made by different companies.

“Are you ready to go to Spanish now?” I asked him, shouldering my backpack. Chad yawned slightly and nodded. “What were you doing all night?” The question slipped out of my mouth before I could stop it. I knew I didn’t want to know, but I just asked for some reason. Aw ****, I really…I thought to myself as he seemed to be pondering the answer.

“Not too much. Actually I was staying up trying to study over the graduation ceremony and stuff.” He looked down at me. “What? Were you expecting another answer?”

I heard the slight defensive tone in his voice. “No, just curious,” I said, blinking up at him. The smile reappeared back on his face.

We walked in a comfortable silence to our Spanish class, taking up our seats in the back next to our small group of friends. My friends were not really popular at all. We were sort of the type of people that everyone knew, but didn’t really pay lot of attention to. Our group was more or less like the middle crowd, if you wanted to call it that. Only three of my friends were in this class. It was perfectly fine with me, however.

“Hey guys,” I said, slipping in to the seat on Chad’s left. Chad always got the corner desk. I wasn’t sure why, but he just did. It was like one of those unspoken rules.

Our friends replied, and then we all began to talk about leaving high school. Hunter and Laura were the other two friends besides Chad in this class.

Hunter was sitting in front of Chad. He had shaggy brown hair and really cool eyes. They were sort of a blue green color with a dark rim around the edge. Hunter was fairly tall, being around six foot or six foot one. He was wearing shorts, sandals, and a white T-shirt today. Hunter was really laid back, and we had been friends ever since elementary school.

Laura was sitting in front of me today. She had an average length of hair that went to about just at her shoulders. Her hair was a dark brown color, and had a wavier affect than being straight like mine was. Laura’s eyes matched her hair, they were brown as well. She was wearing her contacts today, but she did have glasses and occasionally wore them. Laura wasn’t very tall. She was shorter than my five foot six, which made her about five foot four or so. Today she was wearing bright colored shorts and a top that matched. She had on a pair of flip-flops. Laura was fairly bubbly and was pretty nice, although sometimes she could get on your nerves. That happened with just about everyone though, so it was fine with me.

“Did the teacher tell us what we’re going to do today?” I asked curiously.

“No, you guys actually weren’t almost late for once so he hasn’t said yet,” Laura explained, glancing over to the desk where our teacher was sitting.

Mr. Garcia was an amazing teacher. Mr. Garcia was (judging just by looks and his hints) in his middle forties. He was beginning to have bits of grey in his dark brown hair. His skin was tan, and you could tell that he had come from a Mexican background. A lot of people said he was the best Spanish teacher in the school. This wasn’t just because of how fluent he was, but also how nice and fun he was. I found that this year had been the best year of Spanish I’d taken yet.

Moments later, the bell had rung and people had finally begun to get situated. Mr. Garcia went on clicking at his computer, so I guess it was a free day. Laura and Hunter turned towards Chad and I, and almost immediately we began to discuss the rest of the day and how much fun we thought we’d have.

♦♦♦♦♦♦
The rest of the day was almost the same. By the time I had reached Art with Miss Owens in fourth period, I was sort of getting pretty sleepy and bored. While the movie The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was playing in the background, I leaned against Chad’s shoulder. He glanced at me from his notebook he was scribbling in. I looked up at him and grinned innocently. Chad rolled his eyes but went back to writing.

“This isn’t a bad movie,” I commented as it neared the end. We had actually been watching the movie and doing other random stuff the past few days.

“Mhm,” Chad said vaguely.

I rolled my eyes back up to his face and saw that he seemed to be concentrating very hard. A sudden impulse to poke him overtook me, but I brushed it aside and went back to watching the movie. Moments after I had settled in to watch and had gotten comfortable, Chad shifted so my head was in his lap.

“What’re you doing?” I grumbled, looking up at him. He shrugged and grinned down at me. “You know, my head just basically slammed against your crotch,” I stated. Chad nodded slowly, glancing at the screen briefly and then looking back down to me. “You’re such a pervert, Chaddy,” I grumbled, feeling another yawn come over me.

“Yeah, love you too,” he murmured.

We stayed like that for most the period. My head was in his lap, the rest of my body stretched out across the uncomfortable chairs that the school had decided to use school. Chad simply sat there, occasionally playing with a strand of my hair absentmindedly or teasing me about something or another. I stuck my tongue out at him, a grin on my face. I was so glad that I had every class with Chad. He had been a real lifesaver for me when he had first moved here in freshman year. I felt my eyes slip closed as I remembered.

I lowered my gaze and stared silently at the ground. I had probably just done it now. Sarina and I hadn’t been getting along very well lately and I was fairly sure that I had just said something to drive her even further away. A silent scream reverberated through my mind. I couldn’t believe that I had just told her that I’d rather her not be my friend than not act like a friend at all.

“I’m sorry,” I murmured, more to myself than anyone else. Sarina was long gone by now. She had gone back to…the house, taking the car with her. I slipped to the ground and sat on the cool grass, staring off in the distance rather listlessly.

Soon I began to think fairly terrible thoughts. I thought that maybe it would be better for everyone I knew if I was dead or something. Then I began to getting sort of angry with Sarina, which I felt immensely guilty for afterward. A shaky breath escaped my lips. I slowly stood up and shoved my hands in my pockets. As soon as I moved away from the sheltered area, there was a clap of thunder.

“Oh isn’t that just really great?” I grumbled under my breath, feeling the first drops of rain begin to fall on my shoulders.

I walked through the small town and back towards her house. I had to stay there because my foster parents were on vacation in Hawaii for a month. It was about an hour or more walk to her house. Soon I felt the rain begin to fall in large amounts over my head. I had my sweatshirt’s hood up, so it wasn’t terrible yet. I felt my socks get soaked through my shoe.

A car pulled up next to me so suddenly I jumped. I felt my teeth chatter, but I clamped down on my jaw to prevent them from doing so. One of the windows on the sleek black car rolled down rather smoothly. I paused and waited, figuring that the person was going to tell me off for being out in the rain or something dumb like that. What I saw wasn’t an angry old man; however, it was a guy about my age looking at me.

“Want a lift?” he asked.

“I probably shouldn’t get a ride from a random dude who just pulled up,” I observed. Though my instincts told me to flee, I wanted so badly to get into the heated car. “So no, I should probably get going.”

“But you look like you’re freezing,” the guy commented. He popped open the passenger door that had the window rolled down. “I swear I won’t try to rape you or something weird.” I looked at him seriously, and saw that there was something in his eyes that I could trust. So, against my better judgment, I got into the car.

As soon as I had the door shut, he rolled the window up and turned up the heat. I shivered harder. He glanced over at me as he turned a corner, parking in an empty lot momentarily. I watched as he turned around in his seat and began rummaging through the stuff in the back of his car. A bit later, he came back with a large sweatshirt that looked incredibly soft and warm.

“Take off your sweatshirt at least,” he suggested, handing me his sweatshirt. I hesitantly took of my own sweatshirt, and shivered a bit more. “I’d suggest taking off your shirt, but I don’t want to sound really freaky.” The guy rubbed the back of his head in a sheepish way that seemed to be friendly as well.

“Don’t look and I will.”

He shrugged and then turned around again, rummaging through some more stuff. I quickly pulled off my shirt and slipped on the gigantic sweatshirt. He brought a blanket up next, handing it to me. “I’m Chad, by the way,” he said as he gave it to me.

“Shelby,” I mumbled as I wrapped it around my shoulders and huddled in the warmth. I spared a glance over at him. “So…what possessed you to stop anyway?” I asked curiously.
“Well, I mean if there’s a hot chick walking in the rain…” Chad trailed off, looking at me from the corner of his eye. He grinned widely and winked. “Ah, I’m just kidding. Seriously though, I figured it would be better to give you a lift than let you get hypothermia or something walking home in the rain.”

“It isn’t my home.” The words left my mouth so suddenly, I snapped my lips closed and stared out the window.

“Then who’s is it?” Chad asked. “Oh, and where is it?”

“Take a left up here, the big giant houses and stuff,” I murmured. A soft sigh escaped my lips as I went on to explain. “My foster parents are on a month long trip in Hawaii,” I said, rolling my eyes. “So my friend offered that I could stay with her and her brother. Then we got into a bit of a fight. I’m not too sure what the fight was about though,” I said, looking over at Chad. I sort of couldn’t believe that I had just told him everything so easily, but I ignored that and waited for him to say something.

“So…what happened to your parents?” he asked. I noted that his voice had taken an easy and slightly cautious tone. A small smile graced my lips.

“You don’t have to worry, I’m not going to freak out and break down,” I stated. Chad visibly relaxed. I snickered. “Anyway, they were killed when I was really young. I’m not exactly sure what happened to them, though, because my foster parents have never actually told me. They said they wanted to wait until I’m old enough.” I scoffed, turning my head and glaring out the window.

“Well, maybe it’s better that you don’t know,” Chad said in a stage whisper. His voice had gone so quiet, that I could barely hear him. He seemed to catch himself, because he went on to say, “Sorry, it really isn’t my place.”

“It’s fine, I guess I don’t mind. It’s sort of weird that I don’t though, considering I just met you,” I said. I found myself growing fond of this guy. He made me feel happy instead of a burden. He made me feel like he was a good friend, and that I would get along rather well with him.

“Hey…I’m actually sort of new here actually,” Chad admitted.

We pulled to a stop and he glanced at me. I thanked him and as I was getting out of the car, I paused. “Hey, if you ever need a friend look me up,” I said with a grin. Chad blinked as I shut the door and jogged back into Sarina’s house.

A few weeks later I was sitting on the bleachers during gym. It was the guys’ turn to run their laps, so the girls were just hanging out and talking. I was basically sitting by myself though, because Sarina was talking with one of our other friends. My thoughts weren’t really on much particular, except for the fact that I wished I had more people to talk to. I sighed and set my chin on the palm of my hand.

“Hey.”

I started and looked up. Chad was standing above me, looking very sweaty. I made a face and commented on this. He laughed and plopped down next to me. I found my gaze moving over to the track. The first thing I noticed was that everyone else seemed to still be running. I glanced at my watch and noticed that it had only barely been four minutes since they had started to run.

“How did you do that?” I asked, completely surprised.

Chad looked down at me curiously. “What do you mean?”

“Finish the laps so fast,” I stated, feeling like I was almost stating the obvious. Actually, I was stating the obvious.

“Oh…well, I was always a fast runner really. I mean…” he faltered slightly, seemingly unable to continue with his little explanation.

“Right,” I said, rolling my eyes. “Oh well…” I spared a glance over at Sarina, and felt a small pang of jealousy in my chest. Chad followed my gaze and cocked his head to the side in confusion. “A friend,” I said curtly before he even had a chance to ask. Chad closed his mouth then. It was silent for a few moments, and then we began to have more of a conversation.

I felt myself smile. He had really actually turned out to be the first true friend that I had. When I opened my eyes, I found that Chad was looking at me with a half amused and half curious expression upon his face. I opened my mouth to answer, when the bell rang rather abruptly. Chad pushed me up, and I grabbed my backpack that I had set on the floor. Chad grabbed his as well and we walked out of the class together. It was so time for lunch.

“Do you know what’s for lunch?” I asked, looking up at Chad.

“Nah. Hopefully it’ll be something good though. I mean it is the last day for seniors and all,” Chad replied casually. He stuck his hands in his pockets. “Did you want to wait to meet up with our little group?”

“Are you kidding me? I’m starved, I didn’t eat—”

“You what?” Chad asked, grabbing my arm so suddenly I didn’t even have time to react. He had pulled us to a halt in the middle of the hallway. “What did you just say?” he asked slowly and softly.

Aw crap, I’m totally in deep **** now, I thought. “If you’d have let me finish, I was going to say I didn’t eat a giant breakfast, so I’m still hungry,” I replied, carefully picking my words and putting them together. Ha, I’ll bet he totally bought it, I thought in a slightly smug way as I waited for him to say something. Just as I thought I was about to get away with it, my stomach gurgled loudly. I blanched, looking down at my stomach before peering up at Chad like a kid with their hand caught in the cookie jar. His eyes had narrowed.

“Come on.” It was the only thing he said. I didn’t know whether to rejoice that he hadn’t chewed me out (wow, he really sounded like a brother or parent) or be slightly scared at the fact that he hadn’t done anything else.

Normally if I didn’t eat breakfast and he found out he would get fairly cross with me. It usually went something like me accidentally saying it, then Chad hearing, and then it went downhill from there. Sometimes he wouldn’t talk to me until I apologized a billion times and promised that I’d eat breakfast. This time something was different, and I wasn’t sure if he was just being nice or if there was a storm coming. Somehow, I had a funny feeling that it was definitely the latter.

As we walked up to the line, I saw that we were having a “special meal”, or whatever that meant. We inched closer, and I saw that there were fresh fries, cheeseburgers, salads, and many other things. There was also a selection of drinks and even ice cream towards the end of the line. While I was ogling the food, Chad had grabbed two trays. I went to grab mine, but he held it out of my reach. I blinked in confusion, and followed him.

He grabbed stuff for himself, but that’s not what I was concerned about. I watched as he set a cheeseburger, a box of fries, a brownie, a bottle of water, and a small cup of ice cream. There is no way I’m going to eat all of that, I thought. I voiced my opinion to Chad. He stopped, turned, looked at me, and gave me a look. I shut my mouth immediately. Then I followed him to our table and slipped in a chair next to Hunter. Chad sat down on my right.

“Now eat,” Chad snapped. He smacked the tray down in front of me, causing several of the people at our table to jump and look at him.

“What’d you do this time?” Hunter asked, looking at the mound of food.

“Forgot to eat breakfast,” I grumbled, as I unwrapped the cheeseburger first. Chad was eating with one of his arms crossed over his chest, watching me carefully.

The whole table suddenly got it and burst into laughter. I looked at Natalie who was sitting across from me. She had dark brown hair that fell to a few inches below her shoulders. She was also really tall for a girl (she was either five foot eight or nine), and had brown eyes. She was wearing a turquoise shirt and jeans today. Natalie was really nice and she was a great friend, very bubbly just like Laura. Then my gaze moved over to Jon.

Jon was a fairly fun guy to be around, just don’t disagree with him in politics. He was fairly bulky, and…big boned. He could be perverse at times but hey, we all could. Jon had dark brown hair and hazel eyes. He wasn’t very short, but he was a little bit shorter than Hunter. He was wearing a big blue T-shirt and a pair of black basketball shorts. He was sitting next to Hunter and laughing about my current predicament with Chad.

“Shelby, maybe you should try eating,” Laura suggested from Natalie’s right. I felt my eye twitch as I looked at the minimal food on her tray. She grinned cheekily and then began to eat her brownie.

“Chad, there’s no way I’m going to be able to—”

“Finish it. All of it.” Chad crossed his arms, finally done with his own food and ready to stare at me until I finished every last bit of mine. I groaned and took another bite out of the cheeseburger.

After lunch, Chad and I walked together to Mrs. Hines’ literature class. It was an AP—advanced placement—class. Sometimes I couldn’t help but wonder exactly how Chad had made it into advanced (or AP) classes. Sarina was in this class, but normally she sat next to a few of the more popular smart guys and girls. They were the type I tended to stay away from; popular people. I generally ended up annoyed with them, but some were alright in my book.

“Chad, who exactly are you glaring at?” I asked, suddenly noticing his glare across the room. When he didn’t respond, I simply followed his gaze. One of the other seniors was sitting in his usual corner, arms crossed and leaning back in the seat with his feet stretched out. I sighed, recognizing him as the guy that Chad often got into fights with.

I didn’t know much about him, but I knew that his name was Jason. He had black hair that went to his shoulders and pale, pale skin. He had an Italian accent, so we all figured that he was from Italy or somewhere around there. Jason’s eyes were honey brown, but sometimes they looked red in the light. He often wore expensive clothes. His favorite outfit was a pair of custom made grey skinny jeans, a black leather jacket that looked brand new, and a tight white shirt underneath. Jason was also a bit of a heartthrob for many of the girls.

“Chad, come on,” I grumbled, grabbing the sleeve of his jacket and tugging his arm to the opposite side of the room. Chad let out a soft growl.

We sat down and Chad finally took his gaze off of Jason. He looked at me in an apologetic and sheepish way. I felt a sigh escape my lips as I shook my head. I wonder why he hates him so much, I thought as I regarded Chad silently.

“Good afternoon, class,” Mrs. Hines said. She was one of the older teachers, but she was fairly nice. Her hair was going grey, and she had a few wrinkles but the kids still loved her as a teacher. She was one of the better ones as well. “I’ll have a movie playing in the background, so just try not to be too disruptive to the others who might enjoy watching.”

I turned to Chad. “Are you alright?” I asked. I was treading on a fine line once more, so my voice was slightly cautious.

“Yeah…you know I just don’t like that guy,” Chad murmured. He grabbed his notebook from his backpack and opened it. I watched as he flipped a few pages and then took out a pen and began to write.

“Chad…what exactly do you write about?” It just seemed like I was full of questions today.

“Not much really. I just think of some lines that would be cool in a song or something and write them down. Little things so I don’t forget…stuff like that.”

“Can…” I trailed off. I cut off the question because I knew what the answer would be before I even asked. Chad had never let anyone read that notebook, not even me. I remembered asking once in sophomore year, but he had denied me permission. When I had asked again in junior year, he snapped a bit but I had still been denied.

“Were you saying something?” Chad questioned, looking at me from through part of his hair that had fallen in front of his face. I shook my head silently. Chad peered at me for a few more moments, before looking back down at his notebook and writing more down. I watched him until I realized that he was probably going to do that for the whole class period. A small sigh escaped my lips as I turned around and began to watch the movie.

Finally at two forty everything was over. I was saddened by a few things, but there was also excitement stored within my body. Knowing deep in my heart that I would miss this town and everyone, I was still excited about the prospect of meeting new people and visiting new places.

Our group met outside the school doors. Sarina, Hunter, Laura, Natalie, Jon, Chad, and I were all there in an almost perfect circle. We were the half popular group, half not. Now we probably would never really see or talk to each other much—if at all. I looked around at all of their faces, and saw that they seemed to know this as well. We said our goodbyes, and hugged. I paused at Sarina, and then hugged her as well. When I pulled back, I stared her directly in the eye before slowly turning and walking away. I had ridden with her to school, but I decided to walk the way home.

Maureen, another one of our friends, came running up to Sarina then. I watched as she hugged Sarina and they started laughing, talking about something or the other. A sad smile appeared on my face. Maureen’s brown eyes were lit up with excitement as she told her story. Sarina nodded in interest. Maureen was normally fairly hyper as well, and she almost always had her dark brown hair down around her shoulders. She wore Converse almost every day. Maureen was more of a prep than I was, but she wasn’t a big one.

Emily stood next to them. Emily was more muscular than the two. She was a really good athletic person, even though both she and Maureen had been in softball. Her blonde hair was tied up today, something that was different. Her blue eyes were sort of neutral as she listened to them talk.

As I looked at Emily, I noticed that she had looked over to me. I waved. She waved back, her expression slightly confused. I turned and began to walk away. Soon I heard footsteps behind me, and then Chad was by my side.

“I guess I can walk you home, huh?” Chad asked, grinning at me.

I laughed. It felt good to laugh. “Yeah, I suppose you might want to.”

“You know I love you,” Chad stated, his childish grin growing larger by the second. I shook my head but smiled, leaning my head against his arm as we walked.

Well, I'm pretty surprised that I read all of that because to be honest, student crushes aren't normally my cup of tea. However, your writing is actually very good - you have a good balance of narration and description. The only possible complaint is that the various characters are getting introduced quite quickly and some, like Maureen and Emily felt a little...unnecessary. However, seeing as this is only the first chapter, I don't know how accurate that is....

Don't worry, I promise it'll turn into more of a...eh, I'm going for more action or something. Maureen and Emily will come in later in the story. I'm not quite sure if they're going to be major characters or minor ones yet though. And things do tend to happen a little fast in my story, which I know I need to fix >>
