SMEARGLE & SKETCH: An Unofficial Education Thread (Gen 3/4)

WARNING :: THIS THREAD CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS :: LOLWUT?
WARNING :: THIS THREAD CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS :: LOLWUT?

As Double Battles were introduced for the Third Generation of Pokemon
games and returned for the Fourth Generation, I thought certain "info" should
be pasted and posted into its own thread here.

So, this thread is about SMEARGLE. And about SKETCH.
I won't mention all about SMEARGLE or all about SKETCH. As a pro I am not...
**"You can tell we're pro because our pants hang low": motto I saw on a plumbers van, ha ha**

SMEARGLE, when in an in-game (Story mode, NOT linked) Double Battle,
can use SKETCH towards its partner's move.

~ Third Gen: I use the Reporters out of convenience. But the PokeNav does
    offer small 2-on-2 rematch variety

~ Fourth Gen: I rely on those Twins just down from the "flower town" of
FLOAROMA. The have yet to increase their level on me and all the use are
PACHIRISU. And all I've seen them use is QUICK ATTACK...

I will mention it now, before I continue, that not all moves are easy to
    SKETCH.
I will mention it now that I have not SKETCH'd all moves or move "behavior" types.

IMPORTANT: Due to "speed" issues, equipping SMEARGLE, or SMEARGLE's
partner, with a "speed cutting" item such as ~Lagging Tail, Macho Brace,
Iron Ball~ can assist in certain moves being SKETCH'd. Smeargle does
    have a decent speed stat...

ALSO IMPORTANT: I noticed that having a SKITTY that ONLY has the move
ASSIST to be unusually helpful with some stronger moves. Such moves
include MAGMA STORM, ERUPTION, WATER SPOUT, LAVA PLUME. I
assume that Skitty could know other moves. But I chose not to...

ALSO IMPORTANT: Using such moves as CHARM, SAND-ATTACK and other
stat lowering moves can be put to as good of use on SMEARGLE's partner
as it can be when used on your opponent. Such moves should be considered
if you are wanting to SKETCH moves of high power such as DRACO
    METEOR, EARTHQUAKE, FLARE BLITZ.

ALSO IMPORTANT: Remember TAUNT, ENCORE. Why? Keep reading.
They can help with SKETCH-ing such moves as COUNTER, MIRROR COAT,
METRONOME, METAL BURST. Smeargle can also SKETCH a move the
partner used the turn before. I don't know the factors about that though.

    *round 1*
Basically "Pokemon" used COUNTER, Smeargle did "not Sketch".
    *round 2*
"Pokemon" is slower than SMEARGLE (Iron Ball?) and uses "something", Smeargle uses Sketch and Sketches "Counter".

~~The following section is on some moves that I have SKETCH'd and a method
or methods I have used. I have no objection if you want to add your own
    ways to Sketch whatever~~

    > DARK VOID :: I have a DARKRAI from that Wi-Fi event thingy from
Pokemon Ranger Shadows of Almia. I just went to use DARK VOID while
    Smeargle used SKETCH

    > EARTHQUAKE :: Baltoy can both use EARTHQUAKE & SKILL SWAP. They
also have the "Levitate" ability. In addition, CHARM can lower attack power if
you are using a Geodude or something.

    > SURF :: Try using WOOPER. His Special Attack power is low.
**You may want to have a REFLECT or LIGHT SCREEN up. And a Skill
Swapping Smeargle will prove nice as WOOPER can have that "Water
    Absorb" ability.

    > MAGMA STORM: Use that ASSIST from a Skitty. I walked into that Double
Battle with only three Pokemon (Skitty, Heatran, Smeargle). Heatran had ONLY
the Magma Storm, Skitty only the ASSIST, Smeargle had "Smeargle Monk
stuff" and a SKETCH. Heatran was not out in play when I tried to Sketch
    Magma Storm from the Assist.

***Smeargle Monks will be explained in one of my next posts here in this thread.***

    > BATON PASS: Thought I should mention that it takes up a turn. Thought I
would mention "Feel free to Sketch against whatever partner uses Baton
Pass." It was weird when I used Sketch on a guy just popping in.

    > SUBSTITUTE: Yeah. To Sketch SUBSTITUTE, the Pokemon using SUBSTITUTE
should have "not enough" health to create one.
A message appears letting you know you lack the health (versus the "But it
    failed" message).

    > "But this move I wanna use takes too long..."

~SOLARBEAM: Use a SUNNY DAY and then wait for the next round of battle...

~Wait for battle round two, or three, to SKETCH "one" of the following:

SKULL BASH / FLY / DIG / DIVE / DOOM DESIRE / SKY ATTACK / SHADOW FORCE
    FUTURE SIGHT / BOUNCE
And anything else similar in that "I used a move but a message appears a turn or two before it lets you know what I used."

Some movesets a Smeargle can have for species specific breeding purposes. For breeding purposes, please use male Smeargle.

As EEVEE is a crazy popular Pokemon, thought I would add a Smeargle moveset for those Eevee breeders out there.

    Smeargle, for Eevee babies
    ~Baton Pass
    ~Fake Tears
    ~Curse
    ~Wish

Eevee also has COVET as an egg move option. As for the reason Smeargle has Baton pass? Your female Eevee will need to not evolve as it levels towards the mid-40's in level.
    ---

    Smeargle, for Hippopotas babies
    ~Stockpile
    ~Slack Off
    ~Curse
    ~Stealth Rock

    Smeargle, for Girafarig babies
    ~Magic Coat
    ~Wish
    ~**filler**

    ---
    Smeargle, for Spinda babies
    ~Fake Out
    ~Psycho Cut
    ~Baton Pass
    ~Wish

This Spinda-specific Smeargle is worth some mention. The reason for this is Meditite related. In a chain breeding process, a male Spinda, as bred from the above Smeargle, can add Fake Out, Psycho Cut & Baton Pass onto a Meditite baby. Fourth move ends up as Bide through default.
