Chapter 2: My last days of Freedom - Promethea Falls
The day started in what would become the norm for the future. I was woken to the tune of Exodus 04 by my alarm and sprung out of bed. It was now safe to live in the living quarters at the back of the gym now that majority of the work was finished. I suppose I must say that the builders done a mighty job of moving my stuff. Its great having a 42 inch plasma parallel to your bed, which feels like an Altaria’s wings (I should look into that as it is remarkably similar). I’m sorry to brag but it really is ridiculously comfy.
I made some pancakes for breakfast. As I ate I noticed that yellow wallpaper isn’t a brilliant way to wake up and after some careful deliberation I decided to change the colour to a powder blue. I then realised what I was going to do that day and after looking at the clock I dashed for the shower, quickly grabbing a towel as I went. A brief hair conditioning and soap stuff was all I needed and I got dried and spent some time madly spiking my hair.
When I finished about five minutes later I slipped some socks and my size 10 trainers on and headed out to get some supplies from town. I walked down the littered streets of inner Zertinan, hoping to avoid one of its many tramps. The beautifully paved ground and the distance became much clearer. I could clearly see the department store in the distance. It was only because of its giant neon sign really, which even in the day is highly noticeable. Such a tall building would be a spectacle in any other city, but not in Zertinan. It is a beautiful city really, and the most of the tramps disappear after the rush hour is over and the go back to work; it’s just the current wave of fog makes the city look polluted, especially since its most dense in the centre of town.
Getting to the Department store meant walking around the Jirachi Fountain, named so because it is said that it grants wishes, supposedly it has done as well. Like most things spiritual however, I reckon it’s a load of tosh. Because it is Zertinan City, the fountain is insanely large and very fancy, and I couldn’t be bothered to walk around it because I was tired and just because im lazy. I grabbed my Great Ball (I didn’t need a great ball for capture but sometimes l like to colour code my Pokeballs to Pokémon types. Out of Pokéball came my Swampert, which leapt into the water causing a huge splash which I could guess angered quite a few businessmen who were late for work. I hopped onto Swampert who happily carried me to the other side of the fountain. She seemed happy but that may be because she has quite a sadistic sense of humour and enjoys annoying suits.
I entered the department store and recalled Swampert; they are quite touchy about letting Pokémon into the store unless they are guide Houndours or something like that. I took the lift straight to the 4th floor, where all the trainer supplies are kept and headed straight over to my usual supplies, namely full restores and max revives. I headed over to Melody, the Wednesday cashier, and handed her the goods.
“Hiya, tower! Wow, that’s even more supplies than usual Matt, going somewhere? She asked
“Yeah, you know I’ve taken over from Jewel as gym leader?” I responded
“Of course I do, it’s been all over the news you Muppet.”
“Well I decided to do a little exploring while I have the chance so I’m going the Safari Park near the Geothermal Centre, rumour is that Artemicia has been sighted nearby.” I answered.
“’Kay, have a good time, that’s 1000.99 please”
I handed her the money and headed out. I took out Snowl’s Pokéball and released him. I hopped on and asked him to take me to Promethea Falls. It wasn’t meant to be a very long journey, but when we was over Victory Road a bolt of light rushed past, just barely missing Snowls wing. I turned around and it was an agent of the MCD, a criminal organisation similar to your typical mafia. I told Snowl to use double team and I hid under its wings. Making sure I held on tight, I told Snowl to circle behind the drone and quickly use steel wing. The pack of Snowls responded and smashed into the robotic drone, just barely missing another bolt of energy.
At that moment, Aria, the Aurochilia City gym leader flew by on her Altaria, which used Dragon Breath, destroying the MCD beetle which fell into the ocean below.
She shouted over to me: “You okay”
‘Fine thanks” I replied.
“Hey, I recognise that stupidly deep voice, how are you Matt? I don’t think I've seen you since the Promethea Falls incident about six months ago!”
“That’s right, I remember. We had to shut down the transmitter controlling the hoard of Tauros.” I laughed. “As it happens, that’s where I’m headed at the moment, would you like to come with me”
“Gee, I’d love to, really, but I have to get back to my gym, there’s someone wanting a gym battle at 10:15, some other time maybe.” She answered, slightly annoyed.
Aria piloted Altaria to the slight left and sped off, shouting “Bye” as she went. I soon arrived at Promethea Falls; It was a quiet mountain village near the foot of Mount Otsukami. It has a colossal waterfall which leads into a relaxing hot spring. Buildings were sparse and build onto parts of the mountain. The Pokémon centre was even built into Mount Otsukami, with a back entrance leading deep into the caverns.
Despite its low level of activity, there are many rumours and myths associated with it, mostly involving the Zodiac Lords. I was looking at the Atmospear myth.
There is a large spear, dubbed the Gungnir by some, which is said to belong to Atmospear. The myth says that it become stuck in churned earth in a huge battle between its owner, Atmospear and the Taurus Lord, Titon; it was trapped when Titon used fissure while Atmospear lay on the ground with his spear in hand, trapping the spear in the ground and Atmospears spirit will be trapped inside the Gungnir until a trainer with inexplicable skill pulls the spear out with the help of his loyal Pokémon’s help. Atmospear would then challenge the trainer to a battle, hoping to be captured.
With relative ease, I pulled out the spear from the earth with help from Machamp and Hariama, What I assumed was Atmospear rose from the ground, grabbed the Gungnir and made a motion asking for a battle. A great storm surrounded the two of us, and without hesitation, I jumped into battle...
"Lightning. It flashes bright, then fades away.
It can't protect. It only destroys."
