Hey guys, I'm not 100% familiar with anime styles (for that matter names), but there's a particular style that I like that I have two examples of, but I swear I've seen it before then.

The two animes I've seen it used are actually done by the same company (which probaby helps), but my google skills in this matter are squashed, haha.

Anyway, the two animes I've seen it being used on were:

Digimon: Digimon Adventure (the first movie)

Digimon: Our War Game (the 2nd one)

If anyone knows, it would be a great help. :D Thanks!

Those are two works by Mamoru Hosoda, a superb animator who happened to direct the recent award-winning film The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Since he's not too widely known yet, those two marvelous Digimon films haven't received the proper appreciation they deserve, mostly because of their titles. You're absolutely right about them having a unique style. I've never seen any anime besides Hosoda's that feel so human and lifelike. For now, I'd just describe the style as Hosodan.

If you noticed that episode 21 of Digimon Adventure had a different look and pace to it, that's because Hosoda directed that episode. He chose to only do one episode because he didn't want to do the Digital World, as he prefers a more familiar Japanese setting. This really shows in his two Digimon films and TGWLTT.

I too love his style, it's one of the major factors in why I always rewatch the Digimon film and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. I'm hoping to see more of his work some time in the future. :D

However, I've never seen that style, or anything similar to it before the Digimon films (at least nothing I can think of.)

I'll be sure to check his stuff out then. THANK YOU VERY MUCH! :D

Yeah, I would definitely describe it as life-like. Though with a little extra.

Hmmm the best way to describe it, is probably still a poor description, but nonetheless:

The character's in his movies appear somewhat more "weighty", and the animation itself is definitely not linear (more bouncy). Perhaps I could even say that gravity is a bit more realistic in his two works that I've seen.

Again these are bad descriptions, but I find that is the only way I can describe how different and awesome it is.
