I think the 3rd generation has the best music even though I regard it as the worst gen out of all 4. I like how the music uses a lot of brass instruments and trumpets. It makes it sound unique when compared to the other 3 gens. Plus, its the only gen that bothered to give the elite 4 their own battle theme that wasn't just the gym theme.

I think gen 4 has the worst music because it sounds a little to happy sounding, especially the battle theme.

The first three generations all had great music, so I can only point out the one with the least great music. Generation 4, which just doesn't have the same feel to it as the other three generation's music.

Gen 2 definitely. All of my favorite pokemon music is from gen 2. The first generation also has very good music. 3 was ok, and 4 really wasn't that great with the exception of the gym leader battle and the Team Galactic battle themes.
Apparently my old sig was too big or something so I'm just putting this here because I'm too lazy to actually replace it properly right now.

I honestly liked all the music, but in order from least to greatest;

III; Nothing was very memorable sans the PC theme and the trio battle theme.

II; A lot of memories, especially Goldenrod and Ecruteak City. The battle themes were excellent as well, and when the songs were done on Pokemon Stadium 2, they were great as well.

I & IV; I've just got a big place in my heart for the trainer battle theme in generation I. I've seen someone play the theme on piano and jeminy crickets. You don't realise how difficult that song is to play until you watch that. As for generation IV, I can't even explain what's not to love. Dialga/Palkia's battle theme might just be one of the greatest themes of all time.

Looking at my music collection, I realize that I have as many songs from gen 2 as from gen 3, so I'll call it a tie. But overall I think that gen. 2 music is catchier. I'm actually eager to put my hands on the GSDS soundtrack.

Also, I think this fits better in the gaming sections.

Every generation had awesome battle themes, but I think GenIII had the weakest ones...

In terms of overworld music, nothing can match the Lavender Town and Pokemon Tower themes from GenI.

If I were to rank all of them from best to worst, it'd probably go

...probably Gen. I music for me. It sounds so simple yet so complex...and there are really good remixes out there (for example, I listened to a really awesome remix of the Lavender Town theme). Though all four generations have their own memorable pieces.
