Oh also, shout-out to my homies at Thesaurus.com, yo. XD
Anyways, that thing looks pretty bad, though. I don't care for MS Office's ribbon interface much, but it's much better than this. At least MS knows how to do it.
I hope this gets fixed.
Seriously, twocows said it was in intial alpha form and they hadn't tried to make it look nice. 2007 looks nice because it's modelled on the Aero theme. This mockup is based on the incredibly ugly SilverXP theme, which is probably what the programmer is running. If it is able to integrate with it's native OS themer, then we can see it with Aero or GTK, etc.
The people saying it is "ugly" are either not reading the part about it being a mid-fidelity prototype or simply not understanding it. I'm sure even if they don't make many core changes, it'll still look pretty; I'm not worried about that, and you shouldn't be, either.
^^This.
I'm probably the only one who has both looked past the inital appearance
and likes the new layout. It's similar to the Ribbon interface for a good reason. All software evolves together. Do you think it's a coincidence that all OSs look a similar to each other as they do? We are in an age where everything is moving towards icons and visual interfaces. Everything is using docks and icons are getting bigger, while text is getting less noticeable. I think it's personally reasonable for Sun to take this in the same direction as the rest of the software market. It's not entirely copying an idea, it's sticking to the market standards to meet the needs of more users.
By the way. People. Hate. Change.
One improve that I think is worth suggesting, and I think they'll do it, is to implement options to drastically and easily rearrange the interface, or revert it to the old style for those who want to.
Good Job, OOo.
