Just lock if this exists.

What, in your own opinion are the most overrated games ever?

For me:

Fallout 3: Seriously..Just what the hell? why is this dark unbelivably disgusting game rated so highly? You can shoot a teddy out of a gun..Great.

LoZ: Ocarina of Time: Shoot me if you want, but this game is overrated. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great game..It's just not the greatest thing to ever set foot in the gaming world...Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are better.

Final Fantasy 7: See OoT...There are better Final Fantasies out ther I think.

The Halo Series: Nothing seperates this from the likes of Timesplitters, Killzone or CoD..or any other shooter for that matter...Nothing.

Pro Evolution Soccer Series: Totally inferior to Fifa in every way, bar graphics perhaps.

But remember, this is opinion...One person's opinion on a game you may love shouldn't make you hate them.

Fallout 3's high rating is due to it's uniqueness; there is no other game like it. I'm guessing it's getting credit for originality, which is always good. It appealed me because if its highly realistic portrayal of the Apocalypse without blowing it too out of proportion. Don't let a single gun from the other 120+ weapons refrain you from being open-minded.

I agree with you on the Halo Series. That was actually the first thing to come to mind when I read the thread title.

I agree both on Fallout 3, FF7 and Halo.
However, some defenses:

Fallout 3: Part 3 of a series every RPG fan has been looking forwards to.
Everyone thought the franchise was dead with the departure of Black Isle, but Beth comes along and revives the series.

FF7: It has 3D graphics which were pretty good for a console game back in 1997.
No comments on actual gameplay.

Halo series: It made console FPS games a viable genre. Generic as a PC FPS, (was) one-of-a-kind as a console FPS.

As a note, Okami wasn't THAT overrated...compared to all those sports games.

I can't say much for Halo, just that it doesn't change much. But if it ain't broke, don't fix it...Being overrated and being one of the most best Online games out there is two different things....

And even though I love it, Earthbound is waaaay overrated. So was Killzone 2, Prototype, GTA, others.

Very awesome games, but I can't leave them out as not overrated.

Everyone has their own gaming tastes. Saying something is "Overrated" will almost always get someone mad.

I, personally, don't like Final Fantasy. I like the concept, the characters, and the stories, but I can never play one for more than an hour or two. idk why. Yet every time I see a game-related poll, FF is one of the highest rated. Obviously, they and I have different interests.

Fallout 3: Good god, this game was SERIOUSLY overrated, I got kinda bored with it. One of my friends even knew how to get everything in the game BEFORE he got it... Seriously, way TOO overrated.

Legend of Zelda - Twilight Princess: To me, this is overrated. Sure, the graphics are brilliant, but the story was... Well, not really too good to me. I hate it when it followed the same pattern as the others... (Still prefer Majora's Mask, but people will say that it has poor graphics. They aren't everything...)

Sims 3: This game was massively hyped, but even though it does everything it says, something about it just feels... Well, worse than said. Probably the fact that no expansion packs exist for it yet, but as soon as they do, I will delete this one.

I'm probably gonna get shot for some of mine.

Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green: Well I think it's not th *shot*

Final Fantasy 7: I've known a lot of people who think FF7 was the greatest game ever but haven't passed the Gold Saucer in Disc 1, so that's like before the halfway point of the first disc and don't know how much of a let down it was.

Halo: They're okay but I didn't think they were like the best, I didn't even like to second and third one. Honestly if I wanted to play a FPS console game, I'd rather play Ratchet And Clank on my PS2.

Final Fantasy 6: Good story but I didn't like the actual game play, I was more satisfied with reading the whole story from a walkthrough than playing the actual game.

Sims: They're not even fun to me anymore, I couldn't stand playing for many than a few days.

World of Warcraft: The game is alright but I'd rather play some Korean MMORPG, but sadly all the good ones require a Koren IP.

Final Fantasy 7 is easily the most overrated game ever, at least to me it was.

Honestly, I just don't like that game. I think every other game that has been rated highly and I have played deserved their rating in almost every way. Some games I didn't like as much as everyone else but I could see why they would like it. For FF7 though, I just don't get it and that's why I think it's overrated.

OK, but I'll still leave it there. As soon as there is a pets one, I will delete it, as the pets are quite fun to me.

I agree with this. "Overrated" is an ugly term. Just because a person happens to dislike Something that everybody else likes, doesn't make that Something "overrated". It just means that the person has a different opinion. That one person's opinion isn't somehow more valid than the opinions of everybody who likes the Something.

Right, I consider FFVII as my favourite game of all time, but I don't think it's automatically the master of all games - if you see where I'm coming from.

Eh, imo the most over rated games of all time are

Ocarina Of Time Seriously, some Ninty fans must have their nostalgia goggles on so hard to still rate this as best game ever. It's clunky, unpresentable, the story is the age old Nintendo "save the princess" skit and the characters were pretty undeveloped, the only thing that has aged well is the music.

Final Fantasy 7 The same as OoT but for Sony fans. FF7 looks ugly, is clunky, the cast are pretty annoying (except Cid, Nanaki and Barret, they're pretty cool) The story wasn't bad but it wasn't great in comparison to the story in FF6 and FF5. The Music again, is the most well aged feature in this game.

Halo 3 Don't get me wrong, I liked Halo and Halo 2 wasn't awful, in fact it was barely different, but whatever, they were both last gen games. But Halo3 is this gen, and it's still a generic sci fi shooter with a low end story and a ragey angsty multiplayer community.

Nothing seperates this from the likes of Timesplitters, Killzone or CoD..or any other shooter for that matter...Nothing
TimeSplitters, CoD and Killzone all have hugely different stories to Halo, Killzone offers a unique online experience as does Call of Duty, and TimeSplitters is almost a genre of it's own. It's not that I don't agree with the fact that Halo offers nothing new as a shooter, but grouping the whole genre together is a bit unfair.

Every game ever made ever is terrible, and you should be ashamed for liking what you like.

No, but honestly, I'm not a fan of trashing other peoples' favorites, and I'll defend mine when other people do (even if it isn't personal, it's still an insult to my tastes).

Fallout 3
Oblivion with guns. A good mix between FPS and RPG, my two favorite genres; what's not to love?

LoZ: Ocarina of Time
You wouldn't understand. It was, in its time, groundbreaking; it was probably the most engrossing game of its time. It has a place in my heart and will always be one of my favorites.

Final Fantasy 7
Same as above.

The Halo Series
Halo got me into FPS games. I was 11 when the first one came out, and it was something I hadn't seen before. As the first FPS I've ever played, it'll always be a favorite. The second and third entries hold no such honor, though.

Bioshock
Bioshock had an insanely interesting storyline, and the gameplay was fun. I don't understand why anybody didn't like it.

Prototype
While the gameplay may have been nothing great (and the story was meh), the sheer amount of badass stuff you could do made up for it all. You got energy by punching people through the stomach and absorbing them. You had moves that could literally decimate an entire city block full of army guys and tanks and stuff. Plus, you could grab a person, run up a building, throw them off, and see how far you could follow them by gliding until you lost sight of them. Great stuff.

GTA
This one's another classic. It popularized the sandbox genre, and it was fun to boot.

Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green: Well I think it's not th *shot*
I'd rather play the originals, but these two weren't all that bad. I still enjoyed the experience.

Final Fantasy 7: I've known a lot of people who think FF7 was the greatest game ever but haven't passed the Gold Saucer in Disc 1, so that's like before the halfway point of the first disc and don't know how much of a let down it was.
...what? You're kidding, right? And I like the entire game, thank you very much.

The story was better than you thought. You clearly weren't paying much attention; there was more going on than just "save the princess." And of course we have "nostalgia goggles" on; it was a breakthrough in its day. It has a lot of meaning to some of us, not to mention it has more heart than a lot of games these days.

Final Fantasy 7 The same as OoT but for Sony fans. I only mentioned Timesplitters because I've fallen in love with it again. I only mentioned them because they, IMO, Are the best FPSs out there at the moment.

Just because I'm 14 doesn't mean I don't understand the "groundbreaking" effect that these new 3d games had on offer. I still think it's great, I still remember my brothers gauping at the TV screen everytime they popped that game in the N64...I just don't think that it can still be called the greatest LoZ or even the greatest game of all time, It hasn't aged well really..I just think that it's successors have overtaken it as the best LoZ on offer.

You know which games they are....I never said that they were not awesome. Hell, I think that they're 2 of the best games ever. But Vice City felt lacking, and I include that as far as to go say, "I'ma go get liberty city stories", which fails because it's just like GTA3.

As for Prototype.....well, I might as well take that off the list, cuz I was playing it this morning. Hammer Fist, anyone?
