That's probably because people think you're trolling. I, for instance, think you're trolling.
I wasn't trolling. =/ I was stating that it's all well and good people pick on Sonic for being repetative, boring and overmilked, but it is far from the only series, especially when a lot more people like Mario which is easily a lot worse for milking itself dry than the Sonic franchise. Then I said I think both should be laid to rest/discontinued. Sorry if you got the wrong end of the stick, I didn't intend to cause any aggro, just wanted to highlight that maybe it's time everyone left off of Sonic, the fans, the haters, the developers and just let it remain a classic.

See, I really think SEGA has the potential to pour a lot of money into a Sonic game and make it really good, but why would they bother when they can make crappy games and still get a lot of money from it? Sonic is like most Nintendo franchises in the sense that you could put out almost anything and the consumer would buy enough copies for them to make a profit, so they don't need to waste the time or effort making something better. Another good example of this is the console Pokemon games, which are still reusing the crappy Pokemon models from all the way back in Stadium. Battle Revolution was a piece of garbage, and I bet Nintendo knew this yet realized they'd make a crapload of money either way because it was Pokemon.

And I think a lot of you are looking in the wrong direction. Taking Sonic back to his roots would be nostalgic, sure, but it's not going to generate any new interest in a world that's starting to look at the new while frowning upon the old. I really don't think another sidescrolling 2D game would be any more beneficial than another linear 3D one. They need to improve upon what they have now, since if they go back to the past most people will just turn the other cheek.

Forgot another one:

Linear gameplay

One of the reasons I liked Sonic Heroes was the linear gameplay. You had two acts before a boss and then a boss. Sonic Adventure 2 kinda had the idea but there was only one act. Hub worlds break up the gameplay too much. Hated it in Sonic Adventure, hated it even more in Sonic 06, kinda bare-able in Sonic Unleashed. But no. Hub worlds and Sonic games don't mix.
