My dad is a microsoft partner and has a MSDN subscription, so he got the RTM version of windows 7 like... last week or so.

Just curious if anyone else has gotten this final release of windows 7 and what are the thoughts on it.

I'm thinking of upgrading, if nothing else, for the purpose of writing a tech review for my school news. But it seems kinda like a better developed vista (from what I've seen on my dad's computer) so it might have it's quirks. I use my machine for gaming, but not so much since school's in session and I have pokemon to satisfy my needs. So... even if it's a little slower than xp (what I'm using now) that would be fine.

Please give me your thoughts

I doubt most people here would be able to grab their hands on a copy of the RTM seeing as it's only for companies, partners and MSDN subscribers. But in any case, it's worth to upgrade to Windows 7 for the better interface and updates etc

Well, there is an event going on from late September to late November where if you stay a few hours there, you'll get a free copy of Windows 7 Pro.
Either way, I can't wait to upgrade this Vista computer to it.

I can only hope to God that this Toshiba will support 7.

I was rather impressed by the Beta Builds as well as the RC that was released. I jumped at the early pre-order price of $99 for Pro version when that was going on. I've used XP for many years now and While it is still a strong OS I believe that Windows 7 will be the next OS that I'll actually be impressed with from Microsoft. Vista was just too Bloated and while it runs fine now, that's only after 2 service packs. I've ben running the RC since it's release and I have to say it very stable, and much better than Vista by far at it's inception.

As for upgrading, I'd say if you can afford it go for it, but the best value so far is the Family Pack bundle of Home Premium. For $149 you get 3 copies, if you have more than 1 computer that you can upgrade I'd say go for that when it's released around October 22nd.

I'll be waiting for Windows 7 from Dell. They're giving it to us for free, so I don't really need to get that "RTM" version for my computer. Still, I would get Windows 7 up and running on my computer as soon as possible, because Vista sometimes drives me crazy. :/

I've been using the RC for over a month now, and let me say that I have not found any "quirks" with 7. And as for the Satellites, there shouldn't be a problem. Chances are, 7 will pull whatever drivers it needs off the web by itself (as long as you're connected to an active internet connection). I've noticed that generally, the only driver that I've had to install are the graphic drivers. I love 7, though. I'm a gamer myself, and it seems to play most of what I throw at it (there are some Win98 games that don't install/work, but then again, I'm using the 64bit version of 7, and most Win98 games are 16bit, so a large gap there). I hope this helps! :D

I don't use "uber" Pokemon, I don't calculate stat values, I don't breed my way to perfection, and I don't care about natures. I catch my Pokemon the way they are, and treat them like individuals instead of brainless drones. If you use this philosophy, copy & paste this into your signature.

Definitely. I've been using it since the Beta stage and it is the best OS I've ever had the pleasure to use. I've ordered Home Premium which will arrive on release date and until then I'm rearming the RTM edition until I get my product key.

I can't see why not, people got the RC working on stuff with under 512MB of RAM and 800MHz processors. I've got a 1.9GHz processor and 1.5 GB RAM and I didn't notice and performance drops from XP, even with Aero enabled on my integrated graphics. If anything, it boots faster and seems more stable.

It's the best Windows to date as far as driver support goes. I've been able to use XP drivers for some old hardware on it. It's my only Windows OS on this hard drive and I've never regretted that.

If you're worried, install it on a new partition until you are sure it works, then copy your files over and delete the old partition or whatever you want to do.

Yay, I don't feel alone anymore having an RTM of 7 :*D

I recommend you should upgrade for sure. It's not as annoying as Vista (at least of me).
Is the RTM much better than the RC? I might just wait until this expires and get the full version.

Well, it's not that buggy and none of those Red/Blue-still-loading-colors on the windows (or maybe I don't remember them XD) but still get the released version because its not really a good Idea to stick with a Beta, RC or RTM.

well, ive been using 7 RC for a month now and found that Internet Explorer is very instable. as for the features, they are qUiTe good. withe aero shake, the new transperency effect, the 10000 different themes were are bundled and downloadable, not to leave out MS paint with has evolved into photoshop! the icons are arranged properly, files open quicker and pen drives are dtected quiker.
lots more to say, but my hands arent supporting me....

I am running Windows 7 RTM right now, and its very stable. Enjoying it very much. No driver issues. I moved from Windows XP 64-bit due to driver issues. My 2 year old gaming machine got a 5.9 on the rating scale.

I have yet to game on it, that will be the true test.

What are you talking about? Red/Blue loading bars? Either way, I've found my build (7137) far more stable than Vista. I've had one crash in the last few months, which was due to another program, anyway.

The only reason that I'm not keen to update to the full version, is because the price for Seven Ultimate is going to be steep, and I'm getting the Ultimate features as it is. Hopefully the price will have dropped before RC1 shuts down.

That's just due to the fact that you're using Internet Explorer at all. I much recommend Firefox.

I installed W7 on my low-spec laptop yesterday (1.7GHz, 1MB RAM) and it runs like a dream. It's on a dual boot with Vista Home Basic, which is terrible. Slow, buggy. How people can say 7 is the same as VIsta is beyond me.
