I'm asking on behalf of Zenus. He would like to know how to do a computer Server IP Block to stop spambots and spammers.

What do you actually do?

Software is Forumotion. Not sure what can be done though.. hmm.
Forummotion is not a software. The actual forum script you're using. Phbb, Mybb, SMF?

I have a forumotion site as well, and the only way to really ban on there is by accounts. D: I'm not sure if there is a way to IP ban on there at all. You'd have to know how to code that into the system, since that place doesn't have it by default.. but since Forumotion is totally free, I don't think it has any place to input custom codes. I could be wrong, but I've done some looking into that myself before.

Either way, if the user's who ban-dodging is using a proxy, IP banning wouldn't do anything..

I think this is why It's better to get your own server or hosting. If you manually upload the PHBB files (which isn't hard at all) then you can simply choose the IP to ban from the PHBB administrator control panel. The free forum hosts are unreliable for true custmization and certain perks which you need to make your forum live up to It's full potential.

IMO, IP Banning needs to be changed to Computer Banning, which would effectively ban a computer from accessing a server, regardless of the IP.

It's effectivley the same thing. You can't physically ban a computer from accesing a server since it cant. You can only access a server through the internet and to use the internet you need an IP address.

He's probably referring to something such as a MAC Address, but it's impossible and ridiculous anyway.

I'm just having problems with spammers at the moment, who are constantly returning to my site (in signature). And as Forumotion has no feature that allows removal of all a users posts in one click, I have to manually remove them/split them which is very annoying. Just something to stop these twats would be nice.

Also, these spammers are not spambots, but those from a rival forum that got closed down and want to burn TeenChill to the ground.

These spammers then report the site to Forumotion for p0rn etc.
