Unlikely. The first two generations needed remakes because they were incompatible with the third/fourth, and generation three's introductions of natures and abilities made a big change to the game (as did generation two's introductions in the case of FRLG). The third generation is compatible with the fourth, and probably the fifth too, and it doesn't seem like very long ago that they were released. I think that if remakes are made, it won't be until the sixth generation, or later.

On an additional note, the third games simply weren't that popular, and so may not be deserving of a remake. I know, they sold well, and have some fans, but they're generally regarded to be the worst of the generations. RBGY were the originals, they had to be remade. And GSC are generally considered the best generation so far. Do that many people really want to play through Hoenn again? Everyone remembers Lance's Dragonite and trying to beat Whitney's Miltank, but come on, who here has fond memories of say, Flannery's Torkoal? Or Tate and Liza's Solrock? The 3rd generation gets no points for nostalgia.

You are missing a MAJOR part of the equasion: Nintendo are a bunch of money-mongerers. Remakes make extra money along with the main games: Therefore, there is a good reason to release them.

Oh, and that generation wasn't THAT bad. Personally, the lack of time of day (when you couldn't switch it.) was awesome, and Emerald was the origan of the Battle Frontier, as close to competitive as possible ingame.

I'll admit, I have nostalgic memories of Tate and Liza's Solrock, but only because I played through Hoenn time and time again. XD

Also, I don't see a 3rd gen remake after the 5th gen, maybe after the 6th.

The "they will remake them in fifth gen to make money" argument doesn't make sense. Hold out for longer, and they will sell more by remaking them when more features have been introduced, and some nostalgia has set in. It's not like there's a time limit on the remakes, the longer they wait the more money they will make.

I don't think so. I reckon that R/S/E was enhanced enough that it doesn't need a remake. If you ask me, though, I reckon they might do something like a huge Pokemon version where you can visit all the different regions in one game, expanding on the idea they put into G/S/C (going into Kanto and whatnot).

They'll probably just wait. I wish they'd remake it for the DS, though, although by 5th gen there'll be a better system that they'll release it on...siiiigh.

I just hate having to try to find all my old games when I need some Hoenn Pokemon and everyone on the GTS is being ridiculous. No, I am not giving you a Ho-Oh for a Treecko. ):

Well. . . . they might. It seems that they might follow that pattern. When the fifth generation does come out, there's probably going to be a new hand-held to play it on, and besides, R/S/E are already obsolete with the new DSI. I mean, it's not like the fifth gen's coming out tomorrow, it's probably going to come out within 2-3 years.

Hmmm im kinda doubting it atm but but if it does come it probably wont be for another 2years maybe. I think the 3rd gen was horrible in my opinion i just didnt like it as much as the rest and i thought some of the pokemon were just weird xD but if they do remake them ill most likely buy them like i do with every pokemon game lulz.

Possibly. I personally had lots of fun with hoenn. The secret bases are much better than in Gen. 4. It was also mainly water based, giving a new feel to the whole thing. Not to mention the Battle frontier in Emerald has yet to be surpassed. Platinum's blows.

Hopefully. I don't have a gameboy/DS anymore.

And Hoenn was the best region so they should.

The fact that Pokemon can be traded from 3rd to 4th Gen is irrelevant because we are talking about the 5th Gen. Who knows what issues it will raise. Nintendo's new DSi console already axed the GBA slot making dual-slot impossible on it.

An interesting fact:
In DPPt the pokeball on the floor of Pokemon Centers is gold on top and silver on bottom. Hinting HG&SS. In HG&SS, the pokeball is green on a black background*. ...Hinting an Emerald remake...?
/stupid speculation

I think that it may get remade in near future. Maybe in 2-4 years. But not something really soon. It may be remade for some of the reasons mentioned above by others.

Oh come on people! Hoenn was not that bad! Even I played it a lot when its time was there. I must have played it nearly 10-15 times over and over again and agian after which it started to get boring. I think that it was mainly hated for the bad region design and some bad pokemon designs. But I think the only fault in the region design was that it had a lot of water. I really liked it other than that. And speaking of pokemon, it gave us some really good and strong pokemon too. Its not that all of them were good but every region has had its share of bad pokemon. A really effective example: Even though G/S/C was the favourate gen among the fans and the favourate pokemons were the pokemon from the first two generations, there are some people who do not know about typhlosion! And its a fact that many of jhoto's pokemons were also useless in battle. I am not saying that it had bad pokemon but I am just telling about the negative values of the second gen. Of course, it gave us many gems(Umbreon, Espeon, Scizor and one of my faves:Lugia!) but it too has its share of bad pokemon.

And I guess that they have modified HG/SS too. Some changes have been made which were not there in the originals. If they can modify HG/SS for us(Ok maybe for money XD!) then they can surely modify the R/S/E remakes so that they suit our needs(or which helps them to make more money XD!).

Directed at Charmageddon. I loved Hoenn, and I was still young at the time of its release. I have many fond memories of the game- mixing data with friends to invade their bases, the Regi's side quest (which was immense), the many water routes (which I actually liked, surprise surprise), the new Pokemon etc etc. No offense or anything, but you don't speak for everyone. I know many who loved R/S/E. Okay, it's not as good as Gen 1/2. Who cares? My memories of Pokemon Sapphire make me nostalgic as hell.

Sinnoh on the other hand....*shudders*.

On topic, I think there will be remakes, but something tells me it wont be as good as the originals.

Yup. Different people have different opinions and I respect them. But 4th gen wasn't bad too. (Seems like I love every region!XD). And your liking to the water routes is really a surprise.XD

On topic: I too think that there will be remakes in 2-4 years but they WILL be better than the originals. The things that were lacking in R/S/E were probably because of the reason that nintendo had tried making a pokemon game on gba for the first time. And if nintendo plans to remake them, they will probably be launched after the games of the same generation have been launched. So they won't be new to making a game for the new console because they would have already gained experience on making a game for the console thanks to the games(games of that gen) that have already been launched. HG/SS is also looking EPIC for the same reason(D/P/Pt were made before them). If you understand what I mean.

Once everyone owns DSis and Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald isn't compatible they will. That's not for a while though, like three years into the future.

It may be, especially if it's not compatible with Generation Five. And, of course, it lets Nintendo release a popular game without having to put as much effort as with a totally new series. :P It'll be interesting to see what the remake will be like, if there is one. ;o
