Shiny Female Drifloon - The Yellow Balloon appeared after just 19 SOS calls as my Scrappy Pangoro looked on. Naughty Nature with 1IV. Not great stats but the Drifloon is beautiful shiny. Now a Shiny Golden Drifblim.

I also caught a Shiny Clawitzer in X whilst looking for a Dragon Scale. (Which I got 2 casts later)

Next SOS target - Shiny Sandile - A sandstorm possibly raging, Accuracy Modifiers through Mud Slap and Confusion through Swagger which they may cast on each other. Oh My!

I've had 4 chains so far each of around 2 hours...

Chain 1 - Swagger confused each other...one who was summoning knocked itself out.
Chain 2 - Castform appeared, I missed with Flare Blitz, Castform changed weather to hail...
Chain 3 - Sandile used struggle...
Chain 4 - Summoner Sandile knocked itself out in confusion.

Not one yellow with a blue belly Sandile yet but we try again.

Persistence pays off:

Shiny Male Sandile (Sidney) - Caught on my 5th attempt and took just under two hours before it appeared.

When he did appear I put it to sleep with Lilligant before catching it with a Critical Capture Beast Ball. Sandile is my first ever Beast Ball Shiny.

He has a Mild Nature with four perfect IVs (Atk, Def, Defense, Speed). Nature is not ideal but IVs are very good and getting him in a Beast Ball is welcome. He is my third Dark Shiny this Gen (After Vullaby and Umbreon). I plan to train him up and take him to the Battle Facilities.

I just caught my second shiny Chansey from Pokeradar chaining and I'm currently trying to evolve it.

Edit: Caught three shiny Pidgey with the Pokeradar. My Blissey and Snover both evolved shortly after.

Shiny Male Riolu - Appeared after a 2 hour chain as my Alolan Marowak was chaining with some Leppa Berries. False swiped and it kicked out of a Ultra Ball then kept summoning reinforcements, kicked out of an Timer Ball then called reinforcements before a 2nd Shiny Male Riolu appeared.

I had to KO the original Shiny before throwing Timer Balls at the second Shiny until it was caught.

I'm not sure if I am exceptionally lucky or unlucky to get double Shinys. The one I did get has a Naive Nature and 4 IVs (HP, Atk, SpDef, Spd) and will be going to the Battle Tree. :) RIP 1st Shiny Riolu. :(

Shiny Reclaim

Shiny Male Riolu - After he managed to escape capture after summoning one of his Shiny brethren in my last chain for Riolu. I caught him on an SOS chain of 37. He has the Inner Focus ability, 3 IVs and the Adamant nature. :0 :) I really like the Shiny colouration of the Riolu line.

I also managed to catch him in a Beast Ball making him my second Beast Ball Shiny. :)

Happy 2017, SHC!!! You know what that means...

It's time for the 2017 Yearly Quest!!!!

We're going to try something a little different this year. Instead of having one huge Quest that lasts the whole year, we'll have multiple smaller Quests, with the top three hunters in each Quest receiving points. Whoever has the most points at the end of the year wins!

Quest #1: Fiduciary Frolics!

Capitalism has run rampant throughout the world! Even the owner of PC's Greatest Club® has been affected by it, bearing the word "Money" in his name! Shops are purchasing items in exchange for this currency; let's raise some money for the SHC so that we can have a really cool clubhouse with a giant portrait of a flaming blue G!

The winner of this Quest will be the shiny hunter with the highest-valued hold items by their caught shinies! Catch Pokemon who are holding items, and add up the sale value of your shinies's held items to determine your score! If you catch a shiny who isn't holding an item, that won't count towards this Quest. :P

This is probably the most difficult Quest we've ever had, but we have a ton of really awesome hunters now, and I believe you're up for the challenge! :pink_nod:

There are no restrictions for this Quest, so feel free to chain, use Safaris, or use whatever method you want to catch your shinies! Good luck and have fun!

Quest #1: Fiduciary Frolics! lasts until midnight EST on February 28th, 2017. The winner of the Quest (that is, the hunter who ends up with the highest value of their caught held items) will receive 5 points for the Yearly Quest, the second-place hunter will receive 3 points, and the third-place hunter will receive 1 point.

Huge thanks to Chr. Draco for the Quest idea!

Spoiler:
15900 Jagged Pass encounters

Congrats on all the new shinies and welcome to all the new members!

"lol" I was logged out because my password wasn't changed for almost 6 years, haha. {XD}

No one posted their Yearly Quest results for 2016!!!! "lol" right now DarkTorchic has the most listed teams, but I'm sure there are a bunch of you who completed teams for the Yearly Quest. Post your teams and we'll see who the champion of 2016 was!

I had a pretty decent year, with 10 shinies:
  • Nincada (January)
  • Wingull (January)
  • Machop (January)
  • Luvdisc (April)
  • Clamperl (April)
  • Clamperl (May)
  • Shroomish (August)
  • Whismur (October)
  • Electrike (November)
  • Koffing (November)

I also had 10 shinies in 2015, so I've reached a certain level of consistency, "lol." And all of my shines in 2016 were in Emerald, haha! :pink_laugh: I didn't get six shinies of the same type, but I did get six GenIII shinies, so I ended up completing a team!

odds evening out

Woah, you were battling two shinies at the same time!?? That's crazy!!! What an awesome experience, haha!

To the above poster I bought XY on release but didn't buy Omega Ruby until last year. I started shiny hunting in both games in 2016 so I personally like shiny hunting in both.

That being said I do prefer shiny hunting in Gen 6 more then Gen 7, granted I haven't given shiny hunting in Gen 7 a big try, my first shiny hunt in Gen 7 for a Caterpie ended with me accidentally running from a 70+ chain. Granted I'd have to run after I ran out of pp anyways since I don't have many leppa berries.

Anyways I haven't posted in awhile, I have caught 10 shinies since my last post.

I find myself shiny hunting in Platinum, Y and Omega Ruby more than I do in Moon because there's more ways to get shinies in those games. I don't enjoy SOS chaining as much as the other methods and I'll only do it to get shinies of the new Pokemon and Alolan forms.

Yesterday I had some good luck in Friend Safari, a second shiny Clefairy in 13 encounters and then later on a second shiny Pancham in 6 encounters. I evolved both and finished both lines.

Then today I found Machop in 153 dexnav's. The search level was 908, I had done a few hordes before as well as at least 500 dexnavs before the shiny Wingull.

Edit: Was Dexnaving for Tyrogue and did about 50 encounters for Tyrogue and did 3 more encounters for Machop during it when they popped up and another Shiny Machop appeared.

Quest #2: Tom Brady!

All ambiguities have been dispensed with; all doubts eradicated; all questions laid forever to rest. Tom Brady is the G.O.A.T. - the Greatest of All Time! To commemorate this undeniable fact, we will hunt for shiny GoGOAT, or its preevolution, Skiddo. Tom Brady's skills and accomplishments will certainly shine forever in the great tapestry of history, and a shiny Gogoat/Skiddo will shine atop the 2017 SHC Leaderboard to honor the #1 shiny hunter.

The first shiny hunter to find a shiny Skiddo or Gogoat will receive 1 point for the Yearly Quest, putting them in first place on the leaderboard! There will only be one winner, who will have one point, since there can only be one G.O.A.T.

This Quest will run concurrently with Quest #1. Shinies may not be counted for multiple quests, but you can decide which Quest you want your shiny to count for if it's eligible for multiple Quests! This Quest will last until someone finds a shiny Skiddo or Gogoat.

You are highly encouraged to name your shiny Tom (or Brady!), but if you don't feel like honoring the QB with the most passing yards in SuperBowl history, you are more than welcome to name your Gogoat Bill, after Bill Belichick, the greatest coach in the history of the NFL. Or you could even name your Gogoat Pat, to celebrate the greatest franchise and the greatest dynasty in the history of football.

Good luck and have fun!

Seviper Patch

I've continued more of my hunts for my Hoenn mini-tour, and I've begun my favorite one of all - the Seviper Patch! This is a hunt that I've really wanted to do for a while, and I've actually tried hunting here before once.

Back in 2006, I would come home from middle school and run up to the computer, eager to read the latest updates from the legendary hunters of the time (speaking of greatest of all time, haha! :pink_laugh:). MetalMario and Lady Demoonica Darkmoon were having a race in Hoenn for a shiny Seviper in what was the greatest shiny race of all time - two of the best hunters ever battling thousands and thousands of Pokemon in search of an elusive shiny. They were like the great All-Stars of shiny hunting, and reading about their awesome race is a huge part of what inspired me to start shiny hunting myself.

Even though I didn't have an account at PC at the time, I decided to hunt myself and try to race against them. I wanted to take part in this great shiny race, so I fired up Ruby and hunted like crazy in the Seviper Patch.

In spring of 2007, I found a Seviper Patch shiny at long last - but it was a shiny ZANGOOSE!!!!!!!!!! :bigo: I had been using Ruby the whole time to hunt in the Seviper Patch, "lol!!" Zangoose was my fourth shiny ever and I was totally thrilled to get it, but "lol" MM and LDD had been using Sapphire to hunt, where you find Seviper instead of Zangoose, hahaha. It makes sense that you'd be able to find Seviper in a place called the Seviper Patch, "lol!"

So now I've come back, 10 years later, to hunt on Emerald, where you find Seviper (and not Zangoose!). My plan was foolproof - I'd hunt on Emerald, and like the legendary hunters of the ancient past, I'd count my encounters by the number of Surskit I encountered. They had figured out a tremendous counting trick - instead of taking up time by counting up each one of their encounters, they could just count the number of Surskit and multiply by 100. Since Surskit appears about once in every hundred Pokemon in the Seviper Patch, this was a great way to approximate their number of encounters (especially at higher values, where the approximation converges to the actual value) without having to count every single encounter.

So I started hunting in the Seviper Patch. I'm waiting for a Surskit...and waiting...and waiting...and...OMG they don't appear in Emerald!! "lol"

Spoiler:
Question for my lovely peeps:
Do you guys find you spend more time hunting in a new generation (ie X/Y) than the game that follows (ie OR/AS)? In X/Y I used to shiny hunt like crazy, but when OR/AS came along the interest had died off. Now back in Sun I'm shiny hunting like crazy.
My hunting patterns don't really correlate with the release of new games at all, haha. I think I just shunt all the time! {XD}

I have caught 10 shinies since my last post.

Congrats on all those shinies, Maserati! "lol" at you matching my yearly total for 2016 in one post, haha! :pink_laugh:

Caught a third shiny Cubone from SOS chaining. I'll evolve it, making it my first shiny Alolan form. I'll also evolve one of the shiny Cubone I caught in Platinum so I'll have shinies of both Marowak.
Congrats! That's awesome to have both variants of Marowak shiny! ^^

I'd like to join

I recently got into shiny hunting with the introduction of SOS chaining. I've already got myself a timid pichu and shiny grubbin (I didn't get modest, I only had a 50% chance). I'm trying to breed an adamant gardevoir to get a shiny pikipek.

I certainly haven't posted since I joined... but here I go anyway.

Today I was searching for a friend guard Happiny, instead a shiny Bonsly appeared. I wasn't chaining for it, so I really don't know how many encounters I had leading up to it. It was however a nice surprise. c:

Edit: it was from sos chaining.

Because it's almost Valentine's day, I've just been chain fishing Luvdisc and I caught a shiny from a chain of 35. I'm going to focus on catching shiny Pokemon related to Valentine's day as well as those whose shiny forms are pink or red.

Edit: I know they're not red or pink, but I caught two shiny Nincada from Pokeradar chaining.

Edit 2: Caught a shiny Makuhita from Pokeradar chaining.
